WHO? Gardening Club and those who may be interested or visiting!
WHAT? A catch-all and mingle of sorts for the gardening club, though its not necessary to restrict club activity here!
WHEN? Through the month of August!
WHERE? Room 3-E!
WARNINGS? None yet!

and the place got smaller as they grew taller

and taught me to bloom

the flowers of the gardening club seem to be thriving! what with the, um, nutrient-rich water and the abundance of plant food and sunlight, and experienced members there to keep a helpful eye on things for the new gardeners! a pot and a planter seem to have been removed from the room, however- and a small potted tree has joined the group, carefully labeled with a sign requesting it not be touched. nene's own private flowers carry a similar sign on their planter as well. turing's jade plant is unofficially in her care, as is hinata's flytrap until he at least knows it belongs to him. the wisteria tree outside is hauntingly beautiful, and the sky rains ash sometimes. it's fine. they're fine. in a world of turmoil and the occasional week-long disappearance, sometimes you have to stop and make sure the roses are still blooming.

...Ah! [He pauses as she points that out about the plants. A reminder of life at the school... that danger is everywhere, and not even the plants can hold complete innocence.] Thank you for the warning. I commit this to memory and make sure to only volunteer as a taste tester for such potted plants.

[He looks more solemn as Turing is mentioned, remembering how it was almost yesterday when they were excitedly leading students around the maid/host event.]

Yes. I... I would love to see it, Yashiro-kun. Please show me! [It sounds like an important plant to take care of!]

( she was so excited about the idea of growing a small vegetable garden in the courtyard, she's very bitter. )

We're hoping to use some of the herbs we grow for other things- like chamomile! We can learn to make it into tea leaves!

( he gets the weight that comes with this special succulent though. so as she slides her strawberries back into place, she pulls out another- it's thriving well, under the extra love she pours into it alongside shinobu and the others. )

It's a succulent- they're easier to raise, and very hardy. But they can be kind of fickle... they were doing really well with it. So, it's up to us to care for it in their stead.

[He smiles as she brings up the tea leaves.]

Is that so? How exciting! I certainly hope that proves to be doable, and I look forward to the tea that it may produce! Plants sure have an incredible amount of uses, don't they...

[He's admiring them more and more!

And then the jade plant is produced, abd Ishimaru continues to be impressed as he looks it over.]

Ah, I see. I've heard of these plants... These are the ones that can survive in arid conditions. Truly incredible! And it looks so lovely and healthy, too.

[With that, he leans forwaed and attempd to address the plany directly.] Please do not worry, little one! We will do our best to take good care of you while your parent is away!

Mhm, mhm! One of my favorite cooking channels on youtube, he has fresh herbs growing all over his kitchen that he can just take from when he's cooking- that's something I want to be able to do, too!

nene smiles a little, while ishimaru talks to the little jade plant. it's very sweet of him- and plants like being talked to! )

Ah... we've all been taking care of it together. If you'd like though, you can help too. Did you know that plants like being talked to? I've also heard they like music being played for them- it'd be nice to have a radio or something, don't you think?

Is that so? How fascinating! I did not realize that the youtube could be so educational!

[He prefers learning from books himself, although he is also from earlier in Youtube's lifespan.]

I would be honored to lend a hand in helping it out! I... I want to help out, however I can. [Even of it's for plants, he can feel like he's making a difference for the lives of some entities.] I had heard that talking to them could be helpful, and I am fully prepared to engage them in conversation! I did not know about music, however... I wonder if some sort of radio can be procured! It certainly sounds like a matter worth looking into.

Mmm... maybe when we get out, I can show you that channel.

( who doesn't love scenic POV bike rides, quiet shopping trips and soothing cooking instructions, all partnered with fluffy kitties? of course, it doesn't even occur to her that ishimaru might be from a slightly different period in time. )

I understand. I do too- I... ( nene glances away for a moment, balling her fists up tight for a second- ) I feel so useless. People are discovering things, or can fight, and I'm just here with flowers... I...

... Sorry. ( she looks up with a smile again. ) We can- um. Jade plants don't need a lot of babysitting, just... if you see the soil is dry, give it some water. But if you water it too often, you can make it sick. Talking helps make them happy... a-and I was thinking about trying to find a radio, too, but I don't know where to begin.

I would be delighted to watch it! [He replies earnestly, with a slight bow of his head. He'll take stock in something recommended by Nene for sure!

But he looks a bit more scolding at one of her points.]

Ah, but you should not feel that way, Yashiro-kun! You have done many helpful and invaluable things since we arrived in this school. The blanket you made for me has helped me through many cold nights after all. So... I am glad that you are finding even more ways to be useful! Ah, that said...

[Ishimaru nods along firmly and attentively listens to the latest details.]

I see. Thank you for enlightening me about the jade plant even more! So the water must be used in moderation. I will gladly help to keep an eye on it! And I shall see what can be done about acquiring a radio. I doubt it would be a considered a club-related item that could be acquired... but now there is even a student store open, so who knows what can turn up...!

( nene blinks slowly, eyes wide at the scolding- she hadn't expected it, to say the least. but it earns the abrupt sound of chairs moving against the floor and nene wrapping her arms around ishimaru with a sniffle-

she needed to hear it. )

Thank you- and, I'm sorry- it's- the time here is getting to me... I won't make that mistake again.

[Oh. It's not the first time she's sprung a tiny hug on him, but it still catches him offguard. He slowly wraps his arms back around her.]

I... I understand how you feel, Yashiro-kun. I have felt very powerless myself many, many times. Especially when it comes to... protecting important people. But I cannot deny that... that I have succeeded in helping out in some ways, and I will keep working hard to do more good for the student body!

[A small smile grows on his face.]

And I know that you have been working hard and doing your best, too. You have done many good things! Just having nice talks with me has helped a lot... It helps to raise my spirits, and I'm sure that all your other friends would say the same as well.

I- I really do do my best- I just wish I could do more.... back home, I have to rely on Hanako-kun too... it feels like nothing's changed. But... you're right. And you help me a lot too...

You do so much for us all. So if I can make anything easier... just tell me, okay?

Thank you. I- I am proud for any way that I can help out a splendid friend such as yourself. [He bows his head.]

Yes, I can let you know. I can do that! ...Although I also feel like I do not have to. Yashiro-kun, you help me out a lot without me even needing to ask it. [He thinks back to how kind she was at the charity event just the other month.] Still, I will be sure to let you know, and I hope that you do the same if you need help! Let's both keep doing our best to help each other through this!

( no time for tears! keep moving forward! or the crippling anxiety and grief will eat you. )

So, um- ( nene gestures to some of the pots. ) Would you like to see more of what we have? Careful about touching them, of course- they're getting their sunlight right now.

( also, add will throw a fit if his flowers are bothered. )

[He gives a hearty smile and nods as they turn their attention back to the plants.]

Absolutely! I am thrilled to take a look at any of these beautiful results of everyone's hard work. [He approaches the plants very carefully, with a serious expression!] Of course, I will be quite cautious. The last thing I want is to disturb any plant's nutritious meal of sunlight! I will make sure not to cast my shadow onto them!

[He cements that with a salute!]

( nene leads him a bit closer, before gesturing to each pot... but she's pointedly ignoring the two labelled not to touch. )

So, this is going to be an American flower called 'coneflower'! I've never seen it before, but I'm super excited to see how it turns out. And then we've got sage, mint and rosemary growing together, they're coming along quickly... we'll be able to use them soon, I bet.

[Ishimaru follows along as she indicates each pot and observes them as much as he can without disturbing them.]

'Coneflower'. What an interesting name! And it looks quite pretty, as well. [Moving right along...] Ah, three herbs together I see. Like a group of siblings! It is good to hear that they are almost ready. That would be quite nice! [A pleased nod.] Splendid specimens all around!
