ethics...club...
Who: the ethics club and whoever wants to crash their party
When: whenever in august!
What: just a mingle post for the disasters
Warnings: uhhh...........well there's a bunch of problematic people here probably, so we'll see how this goes. will update.
The "ethics" club isn't really that well furnished so far. So far, there's only a few things -- things that only Josh is able to access, as well as a dart board, a cheap (and faulty) polygraph machine, and a button maker?
Well, the other members will have to make those. But he does have a certain design for it, if someone was interested in ""helping"" him make the pins...
Otherwise, Joshua's probably usually in here, in classroom 2-D, and he won't turn anyone away. He might warn of anyone coming in of their eccentric group, but he doesn't really mind either way.
But there are papers spread around, not that he really wants to do the work of ensuring that his club stays open, but he figures there's no use in just ignoring it. So there's probably going to be some reports to go through on the papers, or something that could be defined as work.

There's a folder on the desk he'd moved next to the door which holds the topic of the month on it for whoever comes into the room:

He's very interested in what people would say about it.

[So a friend(?) of Komaeda is... not a friend of Add, but he'll at least tolerate Joshua's existence. He picks up another sheet of paper, actually pausing to re-read it this time.]
... Pointless. I don't see why these questions would be of interest to anyone... in a place like this where it's kill or be killed, morality is just a weakness.

It's not interesting to see what people think? What they consider to be right and wrong -- trying to convince others to see their side of the situation. It helps everyone understand each other, right?

Right and wrong are too vague, they're meaningless concepts in the grand scope of the universe... First of all, let's simplify it to just "good" or "bad". How do we place an action or result into those categories? It's all too subjective. Something that's good to one person can be neutral or bad to another. Moreover, actions can have multiple results that each create their own chain reactions, so what if an action taken has both a good and a bad result associated with it? You also have to consider that nothing is ever the result of a single action or choice, but the sum of everything that came before it... if something "good" happens, you might associate it with having made the "right" choice, but the reality is that the choice may have been coincidental or even detrimental to the end result. It's impossible to make such a simple connection between action and result. What if the result from a "good" action leads to another "bad" result later on, does that nullify the original "good" value? How do we decide which points to connect, which ones to leave out and ignore, which ones are purely coincidental and which ones are direct responses to each other?
Humans are only capable of perceiving linear time, so they mistakenly believe their choices matter... in truth, all choices, actions, random chance, the unpredictable ebb and flow of reality itself... everything exists, everything happens. Choices only seem like they matter because they're the only ones you perceive, within the limited blink of time you're permitted to exist. Whatever subjective value you place on them is ultimately meaningless, because every result has already occurred.
So if you were to ask me what actions are "right" to me... I would choose whatever gets me the end result I desire. However, that end result doesn't exist in this dimension, so any actions I take won't have an effect on that goal.
In the meantime, I'm currently bound to this linear timeline of existence... so I'll just do whatever I feel like doing until I get bored. That's my "right".
[and then he takes the wadded up paper ball and attempts to bounce it off Joshua's head]

he catches the paper ball when it's thrown at his head, considering his own response. this is why he likes to speak about things like this -- he thinks people's opinions are just fascinating. and it tells him about their own universes too, in a way.]
You sound like you're some sort of being who oversees your own timeline. To be able to pick and choose whatever you want to happen -- what kind of life is that, I wonder?
The question isn't really meant to be so black and white, though a lot of people tend to think of it that way. There's a lot more variables than most expect, but it seems as if you've realized it for yourself.

[it's not really a life at all. merely existing, knowing that all the choices you could make are already laid out on the table, an infinite buffet of options... it'd be enough to give anyone indecision. for him, he's dissatisfied with the branch he's ended up on, so why tend to his choices at all when he'd rather start anew?

There's no wrong answer to this question, since it's almost purely opinion to begin with. It gives me a better insight on the way people think and where they come from aside from outright asking or engaging in small talk. Small talk is much too boring, for my tastes.
