Before Clamor and Lucifer go help kill the gardener!
There you are- I made some pasta, at the least. ... Do you know what this is going to entail?
no subject
Food! Lucifer looks extremely pleased.]
Thank you. You caught us just in time, I would wager. [How sweet of Sidney to make them dinner... Lucifer's touched. And probably about two minutes from flirting.] As for "what it will entail"... no. I don't have any inclinations. That little... Hanako child is one of the people we're meeting up with, and I suppose, is technically the group leader.
no subject
but all that's not until later, so for now..... pasta.]
You didn't have to go to all this trouble, Sidney! But thank you, this looks wonderful. Ahhh, if I'd known you were cooking I would've come by to help... [never mind that the whole reason Sidney is cooking is because they were busy preparing for the mission]
no subject
( he's teasing, i swear. and he gently pokes clamor's forehead as he speaks to prove it- still, that's interesting. hanako... the boy who watched over nene like a guard dog waiting for an excuse. she adored him, and he in turn adored her, but... he was clingy. especially during her summer shutdown. what did the boy know about the gardener...?
whatever, he's going to help dish things up. )
So there's not a lot of information, I see... well. I'll be watching- ( not that it matters for his regular eyes. ) -so the two of you, be careful. I'm not sure I trust anything in this place, let alone spirits.
no subject
[There are too many Komaedas running around, in Lucifer's opinion, and he somehow has yet to hang the fuckers from the ceiling by their ankles and whip them stupid... uh. Anyway. Lucifer's tendencies aside...]
Well, save for the two of you, anyhow. You've proven yourselves more times than I can count.
no subject
He clears his throat after a moment, reeling his fluttering emotions back in... I mean, he still doesn't know if Sidney is even interested in that way, and Lucifer is also here, so. It'd be rude to let his thoughts get too carried away. This is just a nice dinner between friends! Nothing unusual about that.]
Spirits have their own way of doing things, but they're not unreasonable. I'm sure we'll be able to sort everything out just fine. The gardener seems like a nice enough fellow. [he... gardens? that's about all Clamor has heard. so he must be nice!!]
Regardless... I'll do my best! It is the responsibility of spirit mages to resolve conflicts between spirits and mortals. [just ignore how he's only ever dealt with peaceful spirits before and mainly works with artificial ones, he's excited to be Useful and that's all that matters to him right now.]
no subject
to lucifer, as he sets out plates- )
I haven't done nearly so much to earn that sort of confidence. ( and he hates it. he hates feeling powerless and he wishes none of the children here had to experience this place. ) But I'll try to.
( and then, he turns to look at clamor with that soft quirk of a smile. )
I'm sure you'll be invaluable, then.
no subject
[Take that, Sidney, the big demon likes youuuu. And as for Clamor, Lucifer reaches out to pat the mage on the back, though his hand might linger for a half-beat too long.]
Creatures like me invariably don't get along with creatures like that, [that's not true, he's just blowing smoke up everyone's asses because he wants to assert dominance,] but I have no reason to doubt that we'll be alright. We will have Clamor on our side, after all.
Still, though, [and back to Sidney, as he gestures to the plates,] I suppose I owe you dinner now, don't I?
no subject
There is a glass of filtered water or juice or whatever next to his plate and Clamor is just going to take a moment to chug it. Please do not perceive him right now, he's having trouble deciding if he's a third wheel or being hit on. Kinda hoping it's the second one but it's really not appropriate to just ask— wait, is he supposed to ask? He's never really fielded the question before, and he's even less sure of himself considering Lucifer is a demon and El knows what their social norms are like. Should he just ask??
Unfortunately, he runs out of drink before he can decide on the answer to that, so. back onto the table it goes. just jump back in mid-convo like he's not having a gay crisis over here.]
And I'll have to treat you sometime as well! [never mind that Sidney seems reluctant to even let him cook alone, fuck, it's the thought that counts right] Of course, you're also welcome to come, Lucifer. If you want to, I mean!
no subject
( which is totally something that happens on the regular, as well as their one-on-one antics. definitely. summer totally didn't kill us. as far as sidney's concerned, getting alone time with either of them is very nice... but having them both around is just as good.
he's definitely eating i just don't like writing out eating. )
When do you think we'll be able to see the result of the dorms? To be frank, I doubt it was just the fundraiser... but I have no intention of saying that around the kids. They worked hard, I have no desire to invalidate that.
no subject
[Lucifer's going to go heavy on the lowkey flirting, thank you very much.]
That goes for you as well, Sidney. Moments with the three of us like this are moments I highly value.
As for the dorms, I haven't the slightest clue. I didn't spend all that time in high heels and a bunny outfit for us to see nothing from our hard work. [Lucifer this ain't about you—] I haven't heard a thing, however. It would be nice to have an actual bed.
no subject
Haha, well, I wouldn't want to impose if you had other plans that day... but since you're so eager, sure! It'll have to be a date.
[like
not necessarily a DATE-date but he's just gonna let those words out and hope for the best, and if anyone acts weird about it oops! definitely a joke haha, weird that you'd read into it like that]
A bed would be nice... honestly, I can't see the dorms being much worse than our current situation. [when the school is already this cursed, does it really matter if the dorms are haunted? it's a lateral move at worst.] We'll have to scope the place out as soon as possible. I'd say we should keep the kids in the school for the first few days just to be safe, but. [... what are the chances they could wrangle all the kids into agreeing to that? When the dorms might have beds?? He sighs instead of finishing his thought.]
no subject
But I do look forward to a change of scenery, and your company. ... And better utilities, honestly.
( everyone is doing their best but they're all going to wrack up the water bill so hard in week one alone-- )
... But yes. Dates sound lovely.
( and he even! smiles! )
no subject
A date? We ought to make it multiple, don't you think?
[He reclines casually in his seat, legs crossed. Poised, as Lucifer always is.]
There are rather lovely locales in the Devildom I'd be keen on taking you both to, once we get out of here. I surely would be the envy of my peers with you two on either arm, don't you think?
[Sighs, that rare Sidney smile though... hello, serotonin for Lucifer, thank you.]
no subject
but anyway, there's no time to fantasize about working showers when Sidney is making that delightful little smile and Lucifer is going straight into bragging about his home, and Clamor's ears might've already perked straight up at this particular topic because hello?? that's a transparent answer, isn't it? Sidney's down for dates, Lucifer wants them each on an arm...
... unless maybe demons are just like that? He... could still be reading into it. He doesn't know much about demon culture besides what he knows about Lucifer, after all, and Lucifer is certainly the type to brag about anything and everything. So it's really not that strange for him to want to flaunt the two of them if they had a chance to visit... he's not reading too much into this, is he?]
Well! Maybe we shouldn't get too ahead of ourselves... but I wouldn't mind seeing the Devildom someday. It sounds like a nice place. [??? it's literally hell but hey, not like he's ever been to Elrios' demon realm either] Unfortunately, most of the places I'd recommend in Elrianode are ruins now. A guided tour of historical sights isn't exactly— ah.
[romantic. not romantic. well, except maybe to history nerds...
he's just going to pretend he couldn't think of a word and eat some pasta]
no subject
Both sound fascinating, honestly. I almost feel like anything I can offer in my little city would be boring in comparison.
( he had to move out of new orleans after everything was said and done. sometimes he's not sure he can even stand being in the united states entirely. but there were some things he did like about his new home- like the mountains. )
no subject
[Clamor, please, your nerd date idea is perfect.]
There are a number of them back home — ruins left behind from wars with the Celestial Realm long past, the Demon Lord's Castle, [Barbatos' bedroom with all its doors into various timelines which he doesn't let anyone go into because ??] the Reaper's cave... though, the latter wasn't so fun to visit the last time I went.
[Mostly because Solomon was there?
Oh by the Demon King if he shows up with these two on either arm, not only is he going to have to answer his brothers' questions (and chase Asmo off with a broom) but he's going to have to deal with the Purgatory Hall residents teasing him oh you know what nevermind let's go to New Orleans—]
It's been quite a while since I've been to the human world for a vacation. I normally only depart for business trips and quickly return home [before Mammon burns the house down], so, Sidney, if you'd be willing to take both of us... I'm sure there's something exciting to visit. Even if it may not be the ruins of a city or a warzone.
no subject
I wasn't that much into history before, but it's so much more fascinating once you've seen the before and after. So much can change in a few hundred years! Anyway, I'm sure your city has tons of sights, so I'd love to see it if we can! It's not like something has to be so-old-its-ruins-now to have a story to tell.
Lucifer, have you been there before? Or, ah, maybe it's a world that's like Sidney's...? I guess I wouldn't know if it's the same one. It has similar history to what they have in this world too, right? [compared to Elrios which is.... pretty different from a late-90's Earth]
no subject
( ugh these three ARE fucking history nerds i hate them- sidney thinks for a moment, before shrugging just a bit. )
I've seen some similarities between my home and here- although we aren't in the same country- but I'm actually from a few years ahead. If there's any major differences from this place and my real home, I haven't caught wind of it yet. That said, I'd like to believe this school is a major abnormality...
( but, given the manor... can he really be so sure? )
Both my home town and my new city have it's charms- and I'm very familiar with the first's history. It was a wild city, still is. I'm not sure if I'll stay away from it for too long.
no subject
The Devildom and the human world are distinctly similar, yes. The only difference really is that the Devildom is slightly technologically behind the human world [they don't have roombas] and is inhabited by more magic users, as well as being in a perpetual state of nighttime. Aside from that, demons do the same things they would if they were mortal — we have restaurants, clubs, bars, the internet, video games... the lot.
Angels were the same way, though... when I was an angel, before I Fell, I somehow had less leisure time than I do when I'm helping run an entire university and babysitting a prince and six siblings...
[God likes to overwork His servants.]
This world, from what I can tell, is likely somewhere within the human world, or some alternate version of it. Interdimensional travel, as you yourself has demonstrated, [smiles at Clamor,] is quite possible. And, if I'm recalling correctly, the year in which Sidney originally lived is roughly one hundred years before the year in which I resided in before my arrival here.
[Parallel universes baybee.]
Post Mission 1
How foolish of him, to think he was saving Clamor and Amami when he was, in fact, the cause of their deaths.
Stupid, stupid... how could he be so idiotic? So haughty, so prideful that he'd be the cause of death for someone he holds so dear to him? In some ways, Lucifer pats himself on the back, since he got them away from the tree, but... still. Still, it's been hundreds of years since he felt guilt so strongly; the feeling is almost foreign and unrecognizable to him now.
It's eating him. He has to say something. Clamor deserves that much... he'll say something to Amami when the kid gets back from whatever hells took him, but for now... for now... He'll approach Clamor the next time he sees the man alone, with the intent to apologise and just move on. Knowing these two, though, they'll be here for the next several hours.]
...Clamor. Do you have a spare moment? [Or two or three...]
no subject
But beyond that, honestly, Clamor hadn't really thought too deeply about it. He's fine now! And there are more important things to worry about. Like how Amami and Hanako vanished, and how he hasn't seen Sidney for several days either... disappearances in this place were never good news. He's been on edge lately as a result, rarely wandering far from wherever Noah is, though today he's by himself in his homeroom and just... staring at Sidney's desk. A desk just slightly too small for a grown man, but that belongs to one nonetheless.
Maybe if he just waits here long enough, Sidney will walk in like nothing even happened.
He sighs, taking off his monocle to rub the weariness from his eyes.
This is the moment Lucifer decides to pop his head in and say something, of course, so Clamor very nearly throws the eyepiece across the room in surprise. But it's fine, since he regains his bearings only a moment later, hastily returning the monocle to his face and turning around in his chair to see Lucifer in the doorway.]
Oh! Of course! [all smiles, no anxiety over here] I was just... never mind. I'm free right now. What do you need?
no subject
He takes a seat nearby, perhaps a little too close to Clamor, on top of the desk because there's no way he's cramming himself into one of these tiny desks right now thanks.]
...I need to apologise to you. Before you tell me that I already apologised to you in the woods when we were dealing with the gardener, I know. I haven't forgotten, but to be transparent with you, what I'm about to apologise for is bothering me deeply.
[Lucifer crosses and uncrosses his arms and then crosses them again, unable to decide on a position, waffling over what to say, where oh where has his usual tact gone? Then he shakes his head, brow knitting, and breathes a little sigh. Apologising isn't hard. Wording it, however...]
Due to my actions when we were pulled into the void... [Lucifer takes a second to roll up the sleeve of his shirt, showing off the eighteen tallies scored into the skin — two fresh.] You wound up dying by my hand. I cannot, for the life of me, stop thinking about how foolish and reckless my actions were, and I'm quite glad that your death was undone, though...
...
There's still something nagging at me. Forgive me. I haven't had such strong feelings for someone in a long time. I'm sorry, Clamor.
no subject
Not that he isn't given plenty of opportunities to do so, with how much Lucifer fidgets and struggles to find his words. He'd find that a bit cute (Lucifer has a timid side??), if it weren't for the circumstances... instead, Clamor merely listens, patient and attentive. That's the very least he can do for such an important friend(?), for the one who saved his life as far as he's concerned.]
Lucifer... we still don't know what would've happened if you hadn't acted as you did. Matters may have turned out much worse. What if the tree had taken us in completely? We might not have been brought back at all.
You have nothing to apologize for. We had no way of knowing what would happen, and frankly, I'm still not sure I understand it myself—but you did what you thought would save us. And for that, I can only be grateful. You tried to save my life. How could I be mad at you over that?
Thank you, Lucifer. Really... If you hadn't been there, I don't know if we'd have been able to make it out of there.
[he's just not gonna comment on the part about "strong feelings" right now he's already got a lot on his mind]
no subject
Clamor, at least, makes apologising easier in many ways, but that's not the point. They can agree to disagree on this, because in many ways he knows Clamor's right — he did his damn best — but still. Still, when he undid the hex and watched gore leak from Clamor's half-eaten face, it upsets him. He's had people die in his arms before, so this isn't new, but it's also never been his fault. It's never been the result of his ridiculous overconfidence getting in the way of his better judgement.
Lately, he's been in new territory.]
I wouldn't want to subject your imagination to the horrors of what I saw, so I'll spare you the gruesome details. I will say that at first, I had believed wholeheartedly that I'd saved you, but when I woke up with two extra tallies on my wrist, I knew better.
[He rolls his sleeve back down, fixing the buttons on the cuffs with a deft hand before his arms wind up crossed again.]
Regardless of what transpired, I'm glad you're alive now. Is your head alright? I distinctly recall you looking ill after we wound up in the forest and how you seemed to get worse over time.
[Is your killer migraine from losing half of your skull gone, Clamor?]
no subject
But really, Lucifer, it's fine! It's not like I'm not already dead. [h....as he told Lucifer about all that yet, whatever, it's not a big deal] What matters is that we're both here right now. It's water under the bridge!
no subject
Surely he's already told Lucifer about the died-once-before thing, but still. As far as Lucifer's concerned, Clamor is alive now, and killable again (clearly), so. Moot point.]
You're alive here and now, aren't you? I think the tally proves that much.
[Lucifer pushes off the desk at that, shifting instead to lean against Clamor's — hope you weren't working on anything there, bud — where he then lets his red eyes linger perhaps a bit too long on Clamor's face, recalling memories he'd rather forget. There's no visible damage, and he looks hale and healthy...
...perhaps he's being a bit thoughtless or impulsive when he reaches to cup Clamor's cheek and run his thumb over his cheekbone, sighing inwardly, concern etched on his face. Concern and love all at once, mingled with contemplation, like he's about to do something stupid and reckless all over again before he speaks.]
All that matters to me in the end is that you're alright, I suppose. I would hope you'd tell me if something was bothering you about the situation, though I'm content to leave that chapter of our lives behind if you are.
no subject
... staring for a little too long, perhaps, because it's not until after Lucifer stops talking that Clamor realizes he had been.]
O-oh, yes... I mean, of course. [to. whatever the hell he just said, Clamor honestly has no clue, he might still be a fair bit distracted.] And I'm glad you're safe, too! I didn't have the chance to say anything before, but you got cut up pretty badly, didn't you? [like... his head almost got bitten off, but a lot was happening back there and then Amami passed out and Clamor went down with him, so he didn't really get to process how close of a call that was until later.]
no subject
(He could be good, but he won't.)
He's not going to murder the cute moment by telling Clamor that he nearly got a wing ripped off either, were it not for Meng Yao. Still, nearly getting his head chomped on isn't an experience he'd like to repeat.]
Mm... I wouldn't worry much about that. The injuries were superficial at best.
[He's lucky a fang didn't pierce an artery.]
Besides, there are more important things we could be discussing, aren't there? [Then, Lucifer's hand sweeps under Clamor's chin, tilting it up. Hm...] You are a much more interesting topic to me. Do you always blush so easily, Clamor? It's rather endearing.
no subject
he laughs, a bit nervously, and that question might as well be rhetorical considering how much more he's blushing now, with Lucifer's hand on his chin... he thinks back to all the transparent flirting they were doing only a few nights before, and let's not forget how he spent most of that mission carried in the demon's arms. yeah... yeah, he'd have to be pretty dense not to read between the lines here.
he wishes he knew like... more than one demon. are all demons like this, or is it just Lucifer?]
... Well. Maybe it's just for you? You do have a certain charm...
[he's not... not interested...]
no subject
Let him indulge a bit. It's been a rough few months, and now there's an extremely cute man in front of him who he cannot resist. Were they not in a group back during the mission, he might've upped the clingy factor to eleven.]
My charm hardly exceeds yours. You're an intelligent man with a sense of responsibility, and you have the prettiest green eyes I've ever seen. It's difficult to look away from you. It's difficult to not wish to spoil you rotten, too. You'll have to forgive me for being unable to stay away.
[That hand stays under Clamor's chin, eyes carefully scanning his face for a reaction. Has Clamor ever been kissed before? Hm... Would that be too forward of him? He'll save it for the time being. Teasing is more in Lucifer's wheelhouse.]
no subject
He brings his own hand up to Lucifer's, gently touching his wrist but not forcing him to let go. He hesitates, clearly nervous, a hint of anxious longing in his tone.]
You... don't have to stay away. If you don't want to.
[if he wants to. Clamor wouldn't mind it.
he's not even sure what he's asking for, really, to what degree Lucifer wants him. but it's hard to think of a request he'd say no to in this moment. just being wanted, without the usual caveats...]
no subject
Yet.]
I won't, then. You have my word.
[It's a promise, subtly whispered perhaps a little too close to Clamor's lips for comfort, shortly before Lucifer backs off slightly. Acknowledging the fingertips on his wrist, though, he doesn't exactly withdraw his hand — some part of him doesn't want to. Another part thinks he should've just sealed the promise with a kiss and gotten it over with, but Lucifer doesn't want to be too pushy at the same time.
He hears that anxiousness. He knows better than to test his luck.]
We ought to spend more time together, don't you think? If only dinner and a movie were applicable here. I may just have to treat you to a private meal over some books instead.
[Winks.]
