On Tuesday, after classes are long over and clubs just about wrapping up, those studying inside the library may notice black smoke start to fill the room. With the lack of sound, the library relies on flashing strobe lights to alert students of an emergency and the librarian with her piercing stare and domineering presence to order students to pack and leave IMMEDIATELY. The longer one lingers inside the library, the greater the sense of dread builds inside of them until they're unable to resist the student council members who have come to escort the last of the stragglers out, physically if need be.

Outside of the library, gathering students speculate about what happened, whether there was a fire, what were they planning to burn, maybe they were trying to get back at the librarian— who looks positively livid, by the way, and maybe staying clear of the library for several days until she cools off isn't a bad idea, although students will have no choice as the student council members standing guard at the door prevent anybody from reentering the library until it is deemed safe.

The library is closed for the rest of the week, and a sign on the door states that it will reopen on Monday the 19th.

Around half an hour after midnight, those sleeping on the third floor in or near the second year classrooms may feel the ground shudder beneath them. They, uh, may actually want to relocate very soon, because water bursts out of the bathroom and floods the entire floor with very cold, light pink water.

Is that a finger floating down the hall? Yeah... yeah.

By the time the first of the faculty arrives at six in the morning, the entire third floor is flooded, and water has traveled down the stairwell to the lower floors as well, although there isn't as much water as one would think, as if something more is blocking the pipes and preventing all the water from rushing out of the burst pipe at once. The water is shut off for the rest of the day so repairs can be done and the floors mopped down and dried, with the second and third years relocated to the club rooms and auditorium for classes, and the bathroom by 2-D is closed for repairs until Monday the 19th.

When the water is turned on again at the end of the day, it is still very very faintly tinged pink.

Considering that it's the middle of the night and most people, if they need to sleep, are doing so, it may be a while before anybody wanders into the auditorium. When they do, they're stricken with a bout of vertigo that passes almost as soon as it starts, and they may notice a body on the ground in front of the largest glass case in the back of the room. As in, the body inside the case is still there, and now there is a second body lying on the ground in front of it in a pool of dark red blood. A charming little note has been stuck to the front of the body's uniform, and a fluffy white cat runs out of the room while a skinny black cat peers at whoever is there from behind the large glass case.

Whether the people who initially discover the body decide to look for clues first or go wake and gather everybody to bring to the auditorium, they should be aware that the other students and faculty will be arriving in just a little over two hours. What are y'all going to do!!! You tell me.

Whether the body is left or moved, though, a missing student quickly becomes obvious, and the assistant principal orders a school assembly in the auditorium on Monday the 19th, looking very pale and slightly sick, which may or may not be due to the presence of a ...very realistic """doll""" on display in a glass case behind her. She announces that the student council president has passed away, and that students who report information regarding the situation to the faculty will receive merit points for their assistance, and whoever can provide indisputable proof of what happened and who was involved will receive 300 merit points, enough to put them well above even the best of students.

She also brings up the destruction in the library the other day, and how the pipes had burst overnight, and how the ceiling tiles seem to have been falling in places and have led the janitor to discover rats in the walls. Since the school will be closed over spring break, she will be having repairmen do extensive repairs on the school, including a very thorough fumigation to ensure no rats or bugs or anything of the sort left inside the school will come out of spring break alive.

✽ Please note that silence is strictly enforced in the library at all hours, and in the rest of the school from midnight to 6 AM. Although the library and the bathroom by 2-D are closed until the 19th, the doors are not locked and both rooms are accessible for investigation when the npcs are not present.

✽ idk if anybody would want this, but the first person to icly claim the finger when the third floor gets flooded on the 14th can have it Senku has the finger. Characters may also find tangles of black hair and scraps of black fabric in the water, but not much more.

✽ Please use the toplevels below for investigations, and the post itself to discuss amongst yourselves who the culprit may be. There is no deadline for solving this murder, but the solution will net 300 points to one character who reports it to the faculty and will guarantee you the winning bid on the body in the glass case.

That is to say, the area above the smoke detector seems to lead north, south, or west, with no east side since that's where the school ends, and they have the option of choosing a direction. It's not dusty up here! Kokichi will be familiar with that.

Kokichi has volunteered Jun to go first, so Jun will be! Very noble of Kokichi. He probably would barely react to the rat poop so I'll pass on that. GOTTA SAVE COMEDY FOR WHEN IT COUNTS.

Is there anything notably different about the directions? If not, Jun would probably choose at random.

There doesn't seem to be signs of fire damage inside the crawl space! Visually there doesn't seem to be anything different about the directions. If Kokichi has been up here before, he'll know that the north will eventually hit a wall since the auditorium spans two stories, the south will eventually lead them to the upper floor, and the west will lead them to the rest of the first floor.

Kokichi will take up the very important task of whining about the rat shit. He has to make a show of it like he has never crawled around up here before!!

But he'll push to investigate the south route first. Keeping an eye out for . Keeping an eye out for anything out of place, things that might have been used to start a fire, evidence that someone moved through this space recently, etc.

(AND SINCE WE'VE ESTABLISHED THAT THIS FIRST TREK HAPPENS SOON AFTER LIBRARY FIRE definitely coming back to look after the body discovery and everything for bloodstains/anything to tie all this weirdness together!)

As they move through the south route, they'll see that the crawlspace is very clean, to the point that even the edges are free of dust as if somebody very deliberately cleaned this path all the way to the point where the space turns up to the upper floor. There doesn't seem to be anything left behind that might have started a fire or signs of blood or anything like that, but a clean path is an easy path to follow at least: it skips the second floor completely and leads straight up to the third floor.

Do they bother with the second floor at all or keep going to the third?

Jun would probably opt to continue following the clean path to the third floor, while making a mental note to investigate the second floor at a later time!

Following the path to the third floor, they continue northwards until they're above the art room and one of them may accidentally dislodge a particularly loose ceiling tile and may have to jump down and refit it back and keep going. Just a bit further ahead, directly above the bathroom, is an area that smells very strongly of disinfectant masking a hint of rot, and the cleanliness stops there. From here, they are unable to get into the student council room, but may find the path directly above the auditorium where the body was presumably dropped down.

Since there's nothing else currently of note in the library and he is supposed to be Supervising, Clamor will attempt to keep track of his ceiling teens from the outside, in case there's anything notable about where the route follows from below. Or y'know if anyone falls or gets attacked by rats.

He'll bring a broom.

There doesn't seem to be anything noticeable but I hope he keeps an eye on the ceiling and runs into a wall. Does he know they're going upstairs?? help

At least the crawlspaces seem to hold up pretty well and nobody is in danger of falling through until they pass over the art room.

Coming back to the bathroom area after the pluming issues the next day, can they track if/how the pipes from the third floor bathroom near the art room connect to the bathrooms near the third floor classrooms?

They'll find out that they don't! Since the class/club rooms and bathrooms are on either side of the building and it's just stairs straight down the middle, it appears that there are two separate sets of pipelines running down the west wing and east wing of the school.

Bathroom next to the art room... sus. Since Clamor is on the ground anyway he's going to go ahead and take a peek in there while the other two are up in the crawlspace above. Are there any noticeably loose tiles up there, maybe over one of the stalls? Any other signs that someone might've been coming in/out of the bathroom through the connected crawlspace at some point?

None of the tiles are noticeably loose but he can find the entrance to the crawlspace by poking around. There are signs that it's been used but it's hard to tell how recently. Presumably it's not used very often because what if you drop in on somebody using the toilets? Gross. If he looks inside the stalls, though, he will find that the water level of the one in the corner is noticeably higher than the other toilets.

Yeah okay we're checking the tank of that corner one. Place your bets now: is it another body part, and if so, which part???

Also on a sidenote: where is the crawlspace entrance located within the bathroom? Above the stall with the high water/one of the other stalls/somewhere else in the room?

There's........ water inside the water tank! Does Clamor know how to unclog a toilet? Inside the tank is one of those rubber floaty things that if he lifts, it's supposed to unstopper the water and allow the toilet to flush; if he lifts the stopper the water isn't going to flush properly and will spill out all over his shoes if he doesn't drop it quick enough.

The crawlspace is in the middle of the room in the empty area between the stalls and the sinks.

Yeah Jun probably knows the basic of how to unclog a toliet, so he can help if Clamor is having trouble and there is equipment to do just that (ARE THERE PLUNGERS???)

What happens if the toliet is unclogged?

THERE ARE PLUNGERS...... in the janitor's closet all the way down on the first floor. Before I answer your unclogging question, will one of them go down there to grab one or is Clamor shoving his hand down the toilet bowl

By "rot", does that mean it smells like this area of the crawlspace might have rotting wood or something, or does it smell like something organic is/was rotting up there?

And also, does the crawlspace from back above the library seem to have a cleaned path leading to the west (to the rest of the first floor), or was it just the path that headed upstairs?
