( it starts out small. a need for comfort food, and a need for something heartfelt but silly and fun, something genuine and kind. ... and, well, she did find a weird. bootleg vhs set of her favorite movie series, hamster space wars. but the dorm is only barely furnished- and it's not like they can just go out and buy a tv or anything. honestly she completely doubts there's even anything beyond the woods. but she remembers a teacher playing the thing and other stuff in the first month of all of this. 

it's so long ago...

but there's a television and a vhs player in the school. and nene... nene's tired and sad and is currently out of fucks to give, so at some point in the day, after everyone else has left, nene has returned to the school and, uh. "borrowed" both things. it's fine. they just have to get it back in by sunday evening. don't worry about it. like, it's definitely heavy but she's a tough cookie who tills soil and everything, and also sara and noah both witnessed everything and are accomplices by default, so they had to help carry things too. 

(they were completely happy to help on both accounts, she asked very nicely.) 

so the "borrowed" television is set up across from one of the larger couches, and the vhs on top of it. she had cookies in the oven, donuts and hot chocolate made and popcorn popped. the common room paintings are covered with sheets of cloth. all that was left was something cozy- but at this point, nene's made so many little cushions and blankets and even cozy pjs that that's super easy. all that was left was letting anyone who wanted to come know too. so at some point in the halls, nene walks down calling out: )

Cartoons in the common room! Bring blankets and stuff! 

( and, so everyone knows what their characters are getting into: hamster space wars is a movie series about different factions of hamsters that have been trying for cross planetary peace for ages now, with a villainous faction having sabotaged the final negotiations so they can control the war from the shadows to make the most money and also get the most seeds (Very Decadent). the first movie follows the main hamster and his little group trying to escape the villains after having witnessed the sabotage, and are trying to avoid assassination and end the war for good. the sequels follow allied factions, with hamster galactic wars being the Thrilling Conclusion. 

it's heartfelt. it's silly. it's very cute. nene loves it. )

[ Because she's the ringleader to this whole event but also because Akira declared that name upon her previously - is quiet voice is insistent as he drops himself near Nene to park himself on a pillow, immediately gets comfy by wrapping his arms around his bent knees. ]

I want a braid like yours.

[ His arm stays wrapped where they are but one of his fingers is pointing up towards himself from it's position against his knees... his hair is fluffy but isn't anywhere near long enough for this. But still. A man can dream. ]

( that's a tall order... but hmm. nene looks over his hair seriously, before tugging him just a bit closer. although, she still has to shift onto her knees just a bit, because unfortunately nene is so very tiny. )

I'll do my best, but I promise you'll look cuter than anyone else here when I'm done.

( his hair is nice and fluffy, a bit longer than most boys' back home, but she even managed hanako's hair when he let her. kou was the most challenging, since it was super short... hmmm. gently, nene starts working on the side of his head. )

Akira-kun, is your hair always like this? It's really nice!

Mm. Take some artistic liberties if you want - I trust you.

[ Even if it's not braids... tiny pigtails, he doesn't care, sleepovers are for pampering yourself so he needs a good look for it. And is also eyeing those nail polishes that I see she has been granted now he Absolutely wants the full spa experience. He'll sit still and cooperate peacefully, too. ]

( oh she'll get him the best pampering experience she can- except for the color red. unfortunately, that's not available. wild, right? )

I hope you won't be disappointed!

( the braid so far is thick but soft looking, unfortunately short- but a given with his hair's length. the way it lays from the top to over the side gives it an illusion of more inches than there really is though, and she ties it with a small white ribbon. )

There! Ah, where's a mirror...

( no hand mirrors... tragic... now he has to go see in the bathroom, that's like on the other side of the building.... )

[ SO wild and very disappointing, that's the colour he would have wanted... but it's OK he'll accept four black painted nails and yellow painted nail on each hand, that's still stylish.

Anyway he's very excited to see, but he doesn't want to go that far... thinking... then a light goes off in his head and he's got his PDA in his pocket, if he leaves the screen off it should be reflective enough that he can see a bit of his reflection in it, right?? Enough to see the outline of Nene's work to get a grin and a nod of approval. ]

... Wow. I'm a beauty.

[ Nene you could make a career out of this. He's angling the PDA to look at himself from different angles with his look of satisfaction. ]

( OH.... SMART.... nene just beams, watching as he admires himself. it's adorable, honestly. does he get to do things like this often? or is it a rare treat? )

( she nods sagely... but she saw him eyeing the nail polish, so just let her move some of the blanket out of the way and pull the box over it'd be a shame to spill any, after all. )

[ He's more ambitious than that, but he's got enough confidence to put himself up on that pedestal so it's fine. Really he's just the shameless kind of guy that will go along with just about anything so maybe not rare, but this is a treat.

Once she pulls the box over too, he's already offering his hand; crossing his ankles while his legs bend in a bow shape, getting comfortable. He definitely wants the full package. ]

Can you do any designs?

Only because I'm not done with you yet, clearly.

( nene can't help but giggle- man she wishes that were here. but now she absolutely must make his nails look dazzling. with the box open, she lets him peruse colors while she gets the undercoat and nail files. gotta make sure everything is good, after all! for akira's blacks, there's a subtle sparkly, a very sparkly, a regular shiny and a matte black. )

Some! I know how to do things like flowers too, and I've done crosshatches and gradients. I also got stickers and lots of glitter- Aoi-chan taught me how to make it perfectly smooth, too.

[ Alright, that answer is acceptable, he seems pretty pleased with it by his smug little smile... with his braid and his soon to be painted nails, he really will be the cutest one here. As for the black shade, he's gesturing to the shiny black with a free pinky finger - it reminds him of his phantom thief outfit from home. Very stylish. ]

... How about cat themed ones?

[ A kitty face? Whiskers? Paw prints? Oh the endless possibilities... ]

( ahh, the shiny black! excellent choice. nene holds up one finger and darts off for a moment... before returning with a bowl of cold tap water. she's got hacks! settling back in and moving the bowl where it can't be tipped on accident, nene takes one of akira's hands and starts filing at the top of his nails. it's gotta be nice and smooth, helps the polish go on better. )

I can do that... I could do paw prints, those would be super cute! Maybe if I'm careful... it wouldn't be detailed but maybe I could fit a little kitty head on the thumb?

[ Paw prints and a little kitty head...! He's humming along in agreement, keeping his hands as perfectly steady as he can - doesn't want to disturb the master and her work. ]

That's good - just the shape of it works. [ He already can't wait to show them off. ] ... Has someone already offered to do your nails too, boss?

[ He wouldn't say he's an expert on makeup but he's really good with his hands - he's confident enough he can stay in the lines. ]

( nene works diligently- first nail care, then the undercoat. protecting your nails is important after all. and then, once it's dried... the first layer comes next. )

Alright! What colors do you want the paw prints and the kitty? And not yet, but we only just brought it all out.

Alright - well, let me treat you after this if nobody else has stepped up to the plate. I'm a jack of all trades myself.

[ It can't be any harder than the meticulous detail he spent creating his little calling card scrapbook creations... and Nene can teach him the steps, like the coats and such. This is definitely a life skill he wants to take home with him. ]

Let's do white paw prints on the black. [ A pause, thinking. ] ... And the cat can be black, on the one yellow nail.

[ He's so fashionable. ]

Ohhh- make sure you pick a good yellow, I got a few different types!

( pastel, neon, vibrant like a flower, a very specific yellow that looks like it belongs on a rubber ducky, borderline gold... not to mention the ones dipping more into orange or green. so many... )

I'll trust your judgement on what would be best on me!

( they're all hers, so they match her and her outfits at home pretty well- but with the green in the tips of her hair and the pale mint green of her jammies, she's sure there's a color in mind. or maybe he'll surprise her!

as they talk, nene continues her diligent painting, very careful not to paint outside the bounds of his nails- and being quick to wipe it off with a q-tip if she fails. the sheer black becomes more and more solid... except for the ones that will be yellow. that'd just be stupid. )
