September mini-event pt 2
09/17 06:00
It's early Friday morning, the silence lifted but still a while before npc students will start coming to school. The door to the student store remains locked, despite always being propped open by a doorstop first thing in the morning, like clockwork. In the pool building, the lights automatically switch on for the day, illuminating the water below.
A large black shape floats in the middle of the pool, air trapped in the fabric wrapped and tangled around it.

( to worry about an ultimate is sort of odd to komaeda-arata, they're always going to be fine, he couldn't imagine a world where their light was just instantly snuffed out. given the others who have came and gone, he still has that hope in them to come out better than the others — using those stepping stones as a proper path to regain their balance even if they stumble a little. whatever happened to amami's hand is a stumble, but komaeda-arata shakes his head, and he'll forgive it. )
...That, and I am also left with the responsibility of their well-being.
( even if rokuro doesn't accept that person as him, and even if it wasn't a request, but when he said that someone was willing to help, that someone would have took care of them. if komaeda-arata ignores it, he's sure the others will chide him for it, hinata especially, as he said the feelings and emotions still matter, or whatever he was talking about, and so... he'll apply them in his sruggle-worthy way. )
That means we're all on the same side, or... I'll permit you. ( he looks at helena, because komaeda-arata isn't really about people being on the same side as his ultimates, but he'll let this slide!!! ) Hope's important, if we start to distrust one another, the bonds we've made will start to crumble... we can't have that, now can we?
no subject
You oughta permit me too, Maddy. [there's a chiding that won't be listened to] Ama-chan and Boss're my friends too, and I don't wanna see anyone end up dead either!
[... not gonna lie as someone who's seen one of his best friends in the hospital twice, who's seen someone else important to him slowly fade away behind a plastic divide, who's taken care of another at the brink of depression and felt it himself— subaru does feel very strongly about all this, but he just wishes there were a few less people in the room,
but back to topic.]
Ama-chan, were you two up on the fourth floor last night? Boss only locks up if they're going somewhere, [from experience,] so I wanna make sure you guys had nothing at all to do with Rumi-chan's state, even incidentally.
[because he assumes they're innocent in all of this, or wants to think so at least]

...
while he doesn't raise his voice, isn't the type to let his anger overflow into volume or violence, the long, slow exhale he gives is about the only thing that stands between him and that. what little patience he's trying to maintain is beginning to crack, and he ignores the majority of their un-asked for opinions. )
No, we had nothing to do with him.
( there's conviction in his voice, but it's still cold. )
If you're that concerned, you should worry about the things that do.
( leave them!! alone!!! if you're just going to be like this! don't you have a dead body to investigate? )
no subject
Akehoshi-kun, we aren't here to blame an Ultimate, so please be careful. Rather, aren't you here to show your concerns to the things that do?
( like amami said...
we'll check on our new eye candy later.
his brow raises thoughtfully, before he casts to look over to helena, and then finally he smiles towards amami once his own problems are mentioned. )
Why not ask about P-kun, considering they're asleep, and Amami-kun hasn't left from their side yet... someone of that close standing would be able to answer all your questions, considering you and P-kun are just so, so close?
( sometimes you want to provoke whatever side is tender and easily exposed, and then sometimes you just want to see a little hope play into the aspect of things. )
no subject
the expression on his face says that he didn't even realize his wording, and he gives an apologetic look to amami. he hadn't meant it that way, really, he's just concerned that other people would assume... please still be his friend, because—
frankly speaking,
subaru doesn't care as much about narumi as he does npckun, but that's just a matter of "oh good this rumi-chan fellow isn't dead (yet?) so i can move onto the person i know better" and at amami's cold, but convicted assurance, subaru lets out a sigh of relief and gets on his knees, resting his head in his arms on npckun's side of the cot. because presumably there is one chair for one cot and he's fine like this.]
Sorry, Ama-chan. I'm no help with Rumi-chan and all, so I'll sit that out 'til the people who are are all done. [he's an idol not an investigator, he's not strong like natsume] I'm just happy to hear you say that.
[of course he's curious about their shopkeeper friend though, even if he doesn't know exactly what to ask, so it's a little hesitant as he thinks about his wording this time, but —]
What happened with them?
[something simple, maybe, since amami hadn't really. answered it. with, not to, there's no accusation he just wants to know]
no subject
It doesn't look like you've tried very hard to me.
( looks more like subaru walked in and decided to drop all his interest in the case, to amami. )
They're just resting.
no subject
but maybe he deserves that, considering komaeda-arata's stirring the pot just a little — it's obvious that questions towards npc-kun would cause a bit of a rift, but considering those who are here between subaru an helena, they would be worried. then komaeda-arata can just place his concerns on his ultimate, for now. )
Amami-kun?
( komaeda-arata's voice is soft, a hand brought to his lip as he taps slowly. )
I never got the chance to get you and P-kun something to eat, and it's the least I can do... since you're willing to speak with them on this fine morning.
( also if you're being rokkun leaning, that man needs some food to be a good boy "hes a boy alright" a good boy. )
no subject
no matter how upset he is with all of this, it's true that he's not going to pass up a chance for food right about now... he sighs (again) and reaches in his pocket, handing komaeda a pda. )
Take this, then. Something easy to eat, like a muffin.
( it's not for him anyway. )
no subject
...
( pale green eyes look down at where subaru is sitting, i think he's sitting, but komaeda-arata will clear his throat. )
I'll permit you to be around my Ultimate. ( maddy is permitting. ) Your only focus should be him, and maybe you can learn something while being covered by the umbrella of his radiance...
( sighs wistfully. )
no subject
subaru tilts his heads at the words, because you really just do say things sometimes, and then he straightens up to look amami over; there's something that's been nagging at him, honestly, and he'll once ask once komaeda's out of the room since he
seems a little over-invested in ultimates health conditions and stuff. this is probably best.]
'Kay, lemme backtrack... I won't worry about them right now, since I know they're in good hands with you, so I'll worry about you instead, Ama-chan — because we're classmates, 'cause I wanna be friends with you, and because you're important to Boss... to Keigo, too.
[he'll point at their joined hands; amami's bandaged one clutching keigo's own]
What happened? Are you okay? I know you're tired, 'cause we gave you a pretty rude awakening and all, but besides that.
no subject
and yeah, he notices subaru's eye wandering to his bandaged hand. both of them are bandaged, actually, but subaru might notice that the gauze on his right looks a little fresher than what's on his left. the words don't exactly placate the situation that everyone insisted on irritating worse and worse no matter how he tried to shut it down, but at the very least, they don't continue the trend of making amami look like he's about to snap. instead, he falls back into a more subdued sense of frustration again. it's... still an easier topic for him, at least. )
I'm fine, it's nothing serious. It was on purpose, so let's leave it at that, yeah?
( has subaru ever been to the other side amami spends so much time visiting? either way, that bandage on his left has been there for quite some time now, and he's not exactly secretive about the reason why. )
no subject
subaru remembers the mirror piece wrapped in cloth soon used as his blindfold, remembers natsume's lesson on not letting blood spill, and while he's not gone to the void himself—
he can put it together. like a gear sliding into place, though to what it's working towards he can't say himself. but it's working. he fiddles with the blanket, then frowns and shakes his head.]
Nope! I don't care if you hate me for it, but I'm not gonna leave it at that. What were you "checking out" today, Ama-chan?
no subject
[she steps forward, hand extended, so she might find him and put her hand on his shoulder. she'd been quiet earlier - clearly, she had misjudged how many people were in here, and gone quiet in the face of it, but at least she can reason with a few of them.]
He doesn't want to talk about it right now, and it's early.
[don't push, her tone says. one has to be smart in how they go around this. there's only so much patience he has - and if she's not reading it wrong, his hackles are already raised in protection of the one still sleeping. it's best to not stick a hand into a box full of sharps.]
Please...be kind.
no subject
I'll take care of them. In the meantime, I'm sure you two can make yourselves useful out there.
( if what he's asked is too general, it doesn't look like he's going to elaborate much more than he has. )
no subject
but helena's hand on his shoulder is a weight that can't be ignored, and neither can the tiredness resurfacing on amami's face. he bites his lip, reaching out briefly to touch keigo's shoulder and stopping part way, not sure if amami would allow it; as much as he wants to give the smallest "i'm here" to his sleeping friend, subaru knows he's really pushing as is. his hand draws back and he exhales, standing up fully and clenching his fists.]
... Sorry, Ama-chan. I wanna let you rest, but it's bothering me. The nurse shoos everyone out around six in the evening, and I've never seen her open it back until the morning. I dunno if she's even here during the night like we are.
[like, maybe not now-now morning. but morning. this is relevant, but it's more of an outward note.]
And I know you've got that mirror on you, so you could probably cut yourself with it. That's your usual, right? And there was blood where we found Rumi-chan, but he's not injured outside of his... weird condition. So I was wondering, Ama-chan, when you said it happened "on purpose", did you mean that you cut your own hand, or that you made sure someone else did?
[it's a little fumbling, because he doesn't know how to word "did you stop someone from cutting you/someone else" but. that]
no subject
Yeah, that's how I made the cut. ( fresh bandages and all. he can't get around that, but he'll meet subaru's eyes. )
I didn't do anything to Narumi-kun though, if that's what you're asking, and the office was unlocked when we got here.
no subject
[plain and simple.]
no subject
( just look at him, what's he gonna do? )
It was... ( grimaces. ) Like I said, it was on purpose. I'm sure you can figure it out from there.
no subject
Okay. [...] I'll let you rest then, Ama-chan, 'cause you're right. There's something I can do out there.
[he'll give helena an apology tap and then he'll go, oddly... determined... to do whatever it is he's about to do.]
no subject
...I'm sorry. Here we are, all badgering you, when there's so many other things we could be doing.
[she means it - she considers him a friend, so to push and push and push feels wrong.]
But there's something that Subaru didn't say, about that bloodstain. I checked it, and it's neither fresh nor old. Whatever happened, someone was injured recently, though I doubt everyone would consent to stripping down to their underthings to be checked...
[her head bowed, she inhales, and then admits the part of this that she can only do because it's the pair of them - because Amami has been here longer, and he showed her kindness.]
I don't know what to do.
no subject
( does he really want to deal with this, though?
... )
It looks like Akehoshi-kun has something in mind, so I'm sure he knows what he's doing. ( maybe. )
And anyway, it sounds like there was more going on than just the injury.
( circles, unconscious bodies, dead bodies — helena's a smart girl. he's sure she can make the connections, if she gets enough pieces to put them together. )
no subject
[that, and she's not a magician. she heard talk of circles and spells and such, and all of that has to fly by her, because she doesn't know how to piece it out. but maybe the how doesn't even matter at this point - maybe it's why. isn't that what mysteries always talked about? the why of a situation?]
Tell me, though. Is there anything I can do for you, or on your behalf?
[and if not, if that changes, will he tell her?]
no subject
( he pauses for a long time; to be honest, he's not really sure of how to answer that kind of question. hadn't really expected it to be offered to him in the first place. )
Everything is where it should be. ( he says, like an idiot. ) Don't worry about me.
( because this kind of thing is foreign to him, and he doesn't know how to ask for help, but... this much, he can do. )
no subject
[yes, she'll call him that out loud. he needs to hear it.]
