October Event

10/02 06:12

✽ Silence lifts at six in the morning, and there is still quite a bit of time before classes start. Early risers who decide to return to school from the dorms cross the courtyard and open the double doors and—- something cold and wet drips down onto their head: old blood from the torso of a student(?) bound by rope and strung up above the doors to the courtyard, body burned black and cut in half at the waist.
The air is heavy, and the entire school smells of blood.

Hope... month...

✽ A large poster advertising the student store has been tacked up on the bulletin board. For October, store hours are now 6AM to 8PM Monday to Saturday, and noon to 4PM on Sundays. Outside of those hours, the shopkeeper is occasionally in the shop and will leave the door propped open if they are, but more often than not, the door is closed and there is no answer when knocking on the door. Laundry tokens can now be purchased at a reasonable price. The rock gacha machine is now located just outside the door so it can be played at any time. Please continue to spend your hard-eared points on plain boring normal rocks.
✽ In the dormitory, the construction paper covering the oil paintings start to soak through with blood, causing the papers to grow heavy and fall. The distorted faces in the paintings seem to be bleeding from their open wounds, the canvas wet to the touch and smelling of blood. Blood dripping down the walls and on the floor do not cause the dorms to change, nor do the splatters of blood seen on the glass over the star dormitory rooms occasionally throughout the month, as if it had rained blood in the darkness and silence of night, although no other evidence is seen elsewhere in the courtyard.
✽ The wisteria tree slowly continues to lose its petals, and the area roughly ten feet around the trunk of the tree has become completely dead and barren, leaving dry dirt underneath. Despite shedding its petals, new buds are becoming noticeable now too. The spider lilies that bloomed during the autumnal equinox remain, still covering the rest of the courtyard and extending into the forest surrounding the school. Outside, the air smells faintly metallic at all times.
✽ Occasionally throughout the month and increasing in frequency and intensity towards the end of the month, characters with 13 or more tallies will find themselves sensitive to sunlight and loud noises, prone to vertigo upon standing or turning too quickly, and suffering ice pick headaches throughout the day.
✽ Characters with 5 or less tallies will hear faint white noise during the normally silent hours of midnight to 6AM, but no other sound.
✽ The class roster on the bulletin board acknowledges class 1-D for leading the rest of the classes in rank, being the first to reach 100. All characters in first year classes and #-D classes will receive 500 merit points and will be able to exit out the front door to the school. They will be able to make it up to the front gate, but will find themselves growing lightheaded and about to pass out if they try to squeeze through the bars or climb over the gate itself. Please contact me privately if they would try to get out anyways.
✽ The void in the auditorium continues to grow, and (pending character interaction) by the end of the month will encompass the entire right wing of the first floor past the lockers, the home ec cooking room on the second floor, as well as the art club room on the third floor.

Exchange Program

✽ On October 11, students participating in the exchange program are given one pocket knife each and sent out the front doors, upon which they will find themselves in that canon location as if they had stepped out of any normal door in the area. For characters who visit their own canon's location, they will find all their friends and family alive and happy— except for the one person they are closest to, who will be absent. Nobody there will recognize your character or the person they are closest to, regarding both as complete strangers, as if neither have ever existed in the first place. But otherwise... think of it as canon good end, in contrast to elevator bad end.
✽ There is no bus to take them back to Yogen and they can stay as long as they'd like, even forever if they feel like it. If they wish to return to their real home, though, they would have to first return to Yogen and figure things out from there. The first time they open the pocket knife, they will find a piece of paper tucked between the blade and the handle reading "Use to return." If they use it on other people, that's the local law enforcement's business. In order to return to Yogen, perhaps remembering Natsume's presentation mentioning how they got there in the first place, they will have to use the knife on themselves, or otherwise die by happenstance or, eventually, old age. Two weeks after their return to school, they will find one additional tally on the inside of their wrist.
✽ In return, Yogen receives three exchange students: two familiar and one not.

OOC

✽ The first prompt leads into this month's mini-event, which is becoming a misnomer, maybe they should be called murder events instead.
✽ All students leaving on the exchange program will icly be gone for at least 10/11 - 10/17, although they will be able to return at any later date in October, at the player's discretion, regardless of how much time they experienced on their trip. Just like in the bad end elevator and the void school, nothing physical can be taken back from the exchange trip, but characters can at least drain their bank accounts eating good food and exploring town before coming back.
✽ The new exchange students are former npcs Kouji Seki and Chiaki Kudo, as well as a new student ???. They can be interacted with in their corresponding toplevels below, after 10/11.

Nope, nobody's offered me a place and I'm fine like that. I don't mind being on my own at night, anyway -- it's not as if I haven't done it before, back when I was here...

[Her words trail off a bit. Is 'before' the right word here? There's something off about it, like it's wrong.]

The shopkeeper helped? [Huh. That's news to her, but something that she'll keep in her back pocket.] But better ideas, huh... I have a few. Of course, I don't want to put it to waste if we do have it or run out... but vinegar. Or baking soda. It won't get rid of the blood itself, but at least the smell...

There's other alternatives, too, but those two are the most basic.

Well...more like they looked cute while I did some drawings for them, but they donated some very good gators!

[ Which are now looking pretty ruined by the blood, from where Sara tacked them up. She takes one down and sighs. ]

Inaba-san, you're welcome to stop by my room whenever you like. Sleeping on the floor isn't good for your back, so I can at least spare you some pillows if you swing by. [ She doesn't get why anyone would pass up any free rooms with showers...or a door that locks. ]

Oh, thats a good idea. The home economics room might have baking soda..? Or we can ask Tenshu to get us some, if they feel up to it. Some scented candles might also be nice...or is that just me wanting some better ambiance here?

... Huh. The more I hear, the more I want to actually meet this person for myself.

[Although they certainly are being ruined...

...Not that she's going to speak much on that front, anyway.]

I don't want to impose. And besides, you're staying with someone, aren't you? Since it's a dorm and all. It'd be rude of me to stay with someone if I don't have the permission from both people.

[Inaba smiles, something soft and overly polite, but it doesn't entirely reach her eyes--almost as if there's something distant there.]

Ah, yeah... I mean, thankfully I don't sleep laying down... [Which isn't the worst thing, but it's also not the best thing, either.] Yeah. Science classrooms might have it, since it's pretty common to see in projects and the like. I guess scented candles would be nice, but I don't know if we would be able to even get those here.

Haha. They're quite popular, aren't they? We can't all be so lucky.

[ Being that cute must be hard work. ]

If Sou complains I'll turn his hot water off next time he showers. Seriously, Inaba-san, he won't mind. If you won't take a free bed, at least don't sleep in a cold classroom. We have a heater.

[ She notices the distance...and she wants to breach it. Being shut in and sad might make you feel safe for a little while, but sleeping alone in the cold can't really make Inaba happy. Even if she wants her independence...at least try it for one night. ]

That's what the adorable shopkeeper is for...but okay! Inaba-san, lets go take some baking soda from the science classroom! If you say it'll help, I believe you!

Honestly, I'd be glad to not be the talk of the school for once...

[If she could sink into the background and not be noticed, she's fine with that. Makes things easier to investigate, that way. Of course, she knew that the most popular girl in her school back home was Iori - what, with her cute looks and bubbly personality and all; something that she just didn't have.

Her plastic, forced smile sticks onto Inaba's expression like glue, politeness still fizzling into each word that she speaks.]

Ahaha. I don't think you should go that far... Besides. I didn't say 'no' to the dorms for someone to offer me a space. I can just grab a few blankets and just sleep on a desk.

[Better than outright sleeping on the floor - although she certainly has some experience with that.

Instinctively she grips onto her own wrist - the one with the tallies with a flash of discomfort for a second before she realizes what she's doing and puts her arms behind her back, leaning against her heels a bit.]

Shopping is always a last resort, especially since I definitely don't have the merit points for much. [Being dead for a couple of months will do that to a girl.] But putting so much trust in a stranger... that's kind of dangerous, you know?

[Not that she's lying, of course, but she has to make her point made.]

Think about it, at least. You'd always be welcome.

[ That smile...well she's interacted with Sou enough to get the customer service vibe. The offer stands...but if Inaba won't take it, what should Sara do? ]

Does it seem reckless? [ She pauses, pressing the rag under the bleeding eye of a picture before turning back to Inaba with a quiet expression. ]

You're a stranger, but you're in the same situation is me. Working together as allies is in everyone's best interest. So if I doubted you, its only because I want to trust you better. And if I choose to trust you...even if I eventually regret it. I want to give people a chance.

[ Ah, but that might be a bit long winded. She waves her free hand a little. ]

Ah, but thats neither here nor there. We're talking about baking soda, not our lives. [ She's got a gun if Inaba tries anything, anyway. ] I have plenty of points, so don't worry. If I believe in you, please believe in me.

... I will.

[That, at the very least sounds genuine. But then she asks that question to her. If it's reckless. And well--]

It is.

[Her answer is quiet and still retains that same eerie politeness that she basically has nailed down at this point — it's honestly kind of terrifying how easy it is to do that, now.]

But even if working together may be in the best interest of everyone... there are people who will wind up going against the grain, you know?

[Not to mention she can't trust anyone here. Not yet. That's something that has be earned, through time.]

I hope you don't regret doing that with someone else, then. [As she certainly isn't the kind of person that would hurt others... at least, not on purpose in most cases. But - yeah, baking soda.] Right. Sorry that it got a bit serious.

[She's sounding a smidge apologetic, bringing a hand to the nape of her neck awkwardly.]

I'll believe in you - [for now, she leaves unspoken] - so we should at least go and grab some baking soda. Maybe some other things while we're at it, too; best to kill two birds with one stone.

You really think so?

...Yeah. Me too. [ A helpless shrug. ]

There are a lot of bad people here. [ She tried to attack Komeada over it...but...in the end, did she want to be that person? Holding fear in her heart, refusing to trust anyone. Just acting out her own paranoid desires to keep her skin safe. She doesn't want things to end like this. She knows what she wants now. ]

But giving up isn't an option if we all want to escape. So... I have to try. If its scary thinking about the kinds of people we have at this school, if its reckless...I don't think we have a choice to act alone. [ She reaches a hand up to her neck to mirror Inaba's sheepish position. Long winded again...but they're doing the same sort of awkward look at eachother and Sara has to laugh. ]

Baking soda! Right right, lets go! [ She'll put the rag down and start walking. ] Where'd you learn a trick like this anyway?

I do.

[Because it's so easy for her to see the darkness in life - the negative potentials that are out there. There's a good reason why she also sees herself like that, after all.

There's a deep heavy sigh that passes her lips because of it, as her fingers uneasily tug at her bangs.]

And yeah, there are some pretty shitty people here-- [She knows. She knows all too well, now, more than ever.] --but not everyone is bad.

[There are those that--well, not that she can necessarily trust the people she thinks aren't bad, but she doesn't think they're...

...

Let's just say that they're not on a level of 'bad' like some other people.

The bar is very, very low. Anyway-]

Well, that's a secret. Can't be giving away my tricks so easily.
