October Event

10/02 06:12

✽ Silence lifts at six in the morning, and there is still quite a bit of time before classes start. Early risers who decide to return to school from the dorms cross the courtyard and open the double doors and—- something cold and wet drips down onto their head: old blood from the torso of a student(?) bound by rope and strung up above the doors to the courtyard, body burned black and cut in half at the waist.
The air is heavy, and the entire school smells of blood.

Hope... month...

✽ A large poster advertising the student store has been tacked up on the bulletin board. For October, store hours are now 6AM to 8PM Monday to Saturday, and noon to 4PM on Sundays. Outside of those hours, the shopkeeper is occasionally in the shop and will leave the door propped open if they are, but more often than not, the door is closed and there is no answer when knocking on the door. Laundry tokens can now be purchased at a reasonable price. The rock gacha machine is now located just outside the door so it can be played at any time. Please continue to spend your hard-eared points on plain boring normal rocks.
✽ In the dormitory, the construction paper covering the oil paintings start to soak through with blood, causing the papers to grow heavy and fall. The distorted faces in the paintings seem to be bleeding from their open wounds, the canvas wet to the touch and smelling of blood. Blood dripping down the walls and on the floor do not cause the dorms to change, nor do the splatters of blood seen on the glass over the star dormitory rooms occasionally throughout the month, as if it had rained blood in the darkness and silence of night, although no other evidence is seen elsewhere in the courtyard.
✽ The wisteria tree slowly continues to lose its petals, and the area roughly ten feet around the trunk of the tree has become completely dead and barren, leaving dry dirt underneath. Despite shedding its petals, new buds are becoming noticeable now too. The spider lilies that bloomed during the autumnal equinox remain, still covering the rest of the courtyard and extending into the forest surrounding the school. Outside, the air smells faintly metallic at all times.
✽ Occasionally throughout the month and increasing in frequency and intensity towards the end of the month, characters with 13 or more tallies will find themselves sensitive to sunlight and loud noises, prone to vertigo upon standing or turning too quickly, and suffering ice pick headaches throughout the day.
✽ Characters with 5 or less tallies will hear faint white noise during the normally silent hours of midnight to 6AM, but no other sound.
✽ The class roster on the bulletin board acknowledges class 1-D for leading the rest of the classes in rank, being the first to reach 100. All characters in first year classes and #-D classes will receive 500 merit points and will be able to exit out the front door to the school. They will be able to make it up to the front gate, but will find themselves growing lightheaded and about to pass out if they try to squeeze through the bars or climb over the gate itself. Please contact me privately if they would try to get out anyways.
✽ The void in the auditorium continues to grow, and (pending character interaction) by the end of the month will encompass the entire right wing of the first floor past the lockers, the home ec cooking room on the second floor, as well as the art club room on the third floor.

Exchange Program

✽ On October 11, students participating in the exchange program are given one pocket knife each and sent out the front doors, upon which they will find themselves in that canon location as if they had stepped out of any normal door in the area. For characters who visit their own canon's location, they will find all their friends and family alive and happy— except for the one person they are closest to, who will be absent. Nobody there will recognize your character or the person they are closest to, regarding both as complete strangers, as if neither have ever existed in the first place. But otherwise... think of it as canon good end, in contrast to elevator bad end.
✽ There is no bus to take them back to Yogen and they can stay as long as they'd like, even forever if they feel like it. If they wish to return to their real home, though, they would have to first return to Yogen and figure things out from there. The first time they open the pocket knife, they will find a piece of paper tucked between the blade and the handle reading "Use to return." If they use it on other people, that's the local law enforcement's business. In order to return to Yogen, perhaps remembering Natsume's presentation mentioning how they got there in the first place, they will have to use the knife on themselves, or otherwise die by happenstance or, eventually, old age. Two weeks after their return to school, they will find one additional tally on the inside of their wrist.
✽ In return, Yogen receives three exchange students: two familiar and one not.

OOC

✽ The first prompt leads into this month's mini-event, which is becoming a misnomer, maybe they should be called murder events instead.
✽ All students leaving on the exchange program will icly be gone for at least 10/11 - 10/17, although they will be able to return at any later date in October, at the player's discretion, regardless of how much time they experienced on their trip. Just like in the bad end elevator and the void school, nothing physical can be taken back from the exchange trip, but characters can at least drain their bank accounts eating good food and exploring town before coming back.
✽ The new exchange students are former npcs Kouji Seki and Chiaki Kudo, as well as a new student ???. They can be interacted with in their corresponding toplevels below, after 10/11.

[ He...doesn't...not...look like Add? Its a very distinctive look. She'd be unlikely to forget it. ]

Ah... [ The awkward atmosphere is settling in, she needs to change the subject. ]

Its a math problem I need to solve! I need to prove a simply connected, closed 3-manifold is homeomorphic to a 3-sphere. [ She's going to find a nearest table and hand him the box of cookies before starting to pull...a lot of notes out of her book bag. ]

I know a 3-sphere is a fourth dimensional representation of a sphere, and I'm supposed to use the fact that there are only finite number of surgeries during any finite time interval to find the topological structure of the initial manifold....but honestly I'd just appreciate any help on 3-spheres, because thats the part I was supposed to work on.

[ Because this is insane...she's trying to solve the Poincaré conjecture....you can tell me if Add can actually help with insane math like this. ]

[He takes the cookie tin first, and hesitates for exactly none seconds before popping the top open and helping himself to the contents while Sara tries to explain fourth dimensional objects. But he can multitask. He is actually listening, surprisingly. He picks up one of her sheets of notes, skimming it briefly.]

... Do they actually teach that here? [genuinely unsure if he should be confused or impressed, because damn have his 2nd year science classes been boring. why the hell is Sara studying this while he's stuck with mundane chemical reactions and gross dissections??]

I suppose it's a solid theory, but most fourth dimensional objects look more like cubes than spheres... hmm, this calculation is all wrong, too. Doesn't even take the El resonance frequency into account... amateur mistake, useless in any practical scenario... move this value here, and...

[if she was foolish enough to leave a pen within his reach, he's just going to start crossing out numbers and scribbling his own "corrected" equations underneath. which like... they aren't technically wrong, but also he's from a world with time travel and magic and space crystals from the gods so sometimes physics are just Different, Actually.]

No...its not classwork. I'm doing a favor for the shopkeeper. This is my half of the problem to solve.

[ It has been more fun then dissections though. So many eyes...where does that one teacher get them. The pen that fell out of her bag when she was grabbing notes has quickly fond its way into Add's hands as Sara leeeeaannns over his shoulder to look at what he's writing. It seems like it makes sense to him but...hey don't erase that, she spent a long time copying that equation down. ]

What's the El resonance frequency? [ Practical uses...it couldn't be the secrets of Airships? Explain those next. Komeada will probably accept Elsworld math... as long as they prove a manifold is connected to a 3-sphere! ]

Higher concentrations of El can cause distortions within spatiotemporal objects, but it also varies depending on the individual's ability to resonate with El in order create those distortions. You need a certain resonance frequency to have a tangible effect on fourth dimensional objects, but even the lowest possible values still cause some amount of influence on the results... calculation like this would assume an ERF of zero, which is impossible. Minimum value for inanimate objects in regular space would be approximately ERF zero-point-one-six...

[he's noting all this down, of course, but also i don't actually want to do math so please just imagine lots of complicated psuedomath here.]

What's the end goal? If it's spatiotemporal manipulation, this is a roundabout way of accomplishing it... proving something exists isn't that useful on its own. Calculations like these are child's play to me, so just skip to the desired outcome and I'll tell you if it's possible or not.

But what is "el"...? Is it like atoms?

[ Mhmmm the psuedomath. Tasty. Sara is going to steal these notes later. ]

Does...it make airships real!?

[ Shut up about spacetime. She knows you have whimsical fantasy travel!! Explain it already!! ]

Oh, but the actual end goal is that if you solve this problem there's a cash prize.

Tch, right. You people don't even know what El is. [in a tone like one might say "you don't even know that water is wet"] El is the most pure form of positive energy, in contrast to negative energy of Henir that exists in spaces between habitable dimensions. It's the force that sustains all life and binds the fabric of reality together. Without it, the world would be swallowed up by the abyss and fall into chaos...

But yes, technology used to power airships utilizes El. Most things are powered by some form of converted El. What do you think electricity is?

[he pauses after his mini-explanation, tapping the end of the pen to his chin. a cash prize? seems like a shallow reason for this kind of research, but...]

... how large of a cash prize? [how many robots could he buy with it]

Oh, so like photons? And henrir is what you call electrons. [ Unless they consider electrons to be positive in his world...the common el theme is kind of funny. ]

In our world, we learn that electricity is made up of charged particles...have you not been taking physics?

[ Wait... Why is he interested in...oh no.]

I can't promise you a cut! You have to talk to Tenshu! But its one million US dollars...

Ugh, no, what are you talking about? Photons and electrons have nothing to do with Henir, I know what electricity is.

[He stops writing as soon as she says he can't have a cut, staring at her now with a flat look of annoyance.]

You want me to do the work for you but reap the benefits yourself...? I don't need your assistance for this. [he could totally just solve the equation himself and take a 100% cut... but he knows he's not going to do that anyway. not because he cares more about Sara than he does about money, but]

Did you forget the fact that we're in a dimension between life and death...? Who are you claiming this prize from?

[has anyone involved considered this part yet, like... can they claim the prize??]

Incorrect. I asked you very nicely if you'd like to help me, and we're both having cookies and enjoying ourselves!

[ Speaking of, let her at those. She's going to grab one before Add can eat one. ]

...It's not even for me. I don't need money. What would we even spend it on? [ Like she can go clothes shopping...Sara is happy with with just cookies and jam for now. ]

Whose paying? Komeada-san, obviously! That guys loaded.

Why does Komaeda want this?

[That's actually even more baffling than Sara trying to claim a prize from outside the school. Komaeda is loaded, sure, he can accept that, but... why would he want to know the answer to some fourth-dimensional physics question? Why didn't he just ask Add, if that's what he wanted? He should know that Add is capable of this...

He snatches up a cookie for himself, trying (poorly) to hide his sour expression. No, he's definitely not upset Komaeda didn't ask him for help with this, that's ridiculous—]

He's probably just toying with you... are you really going to take that?
samuraiwomen: (nuetral)

[personal profile] samuraiwomen 2021-10-27 06:35 am (UTC)(link)
Don't ask me to explain why he wants anything.

[ She'd like to leave it at that and just focus at bribing more math out of Add but his displeasure is apparent. For a guy so cold, its not hard to tell if he's jealous.

Kind of cute...
]

If he's toying with me...ugh...well its likely. But working on this has made Tenshu really happy. Maybe stringing people along with prize money is his way of trying to play with them.

[ She frowns down at her math, clenching her fist and then turning to Add. ]

Oh! But if he's tricking us, please help me beat him up again!
