October Event
10/02 06:12
✽ Silence lifts at six in the morning, and there is still quite a bit of time before classes start. Early risers who decide to return to school from the dorms cross the courtyard and open the double doors and—- something cold and wet drips down onto their head: old blood from the torso of a student(?) bound by rope and strung up above the doors to the courtyard, body burned black and cut in half at the waist.
The air is heavy, and the entire school smells of blood.
Hope... month...
✽ A large poster advertising the student store has been tacked up on the bulletin board. For October, store hours are now 6AM to 8PM Monday to Saturday, and noon to 4PM on Sundays. Outside of those hours, the shopkeeper is occasionally in the shop and will leave the door propped open if they are, but more often than not, the door is closed and there is no answer when knocking on the door. Laundry tokens can now be purchased at a reasonable price. The rock gacha machine is now located just outside the door so it can be played at any time. Please continue to spend your hard-eared points on plain boring normal rocks.
✽ In the dormitory, the construction paper covering the oil paintings start to soak through with blood, causing the papers to grow heavy and fall. The distorted faces in the paintings seem to be bleeding from their open wounds, the canvas wet to the touch and smelling of blood. Blood dripping down the walls and on the floor do not cause the dorms to change, nor do the splatters of blood seen on the glass over the star dormitory rooms occasionally throughout the month, as if it had rained blood in the darkness and silence of night, although no other evidence is seen elsewhere in the courtyard.
✽ The wisteria tree slowly continues to lose its petals, and the area roughly ten feet around the trunk of the tree has become completely dead and barren, leaving dry dirt underneath. Despite shedding its petals, new buds are becoming noticeable now too. The spider lilies that bloomed during the autumnal equinox remain, still covering the rest of the courtyard and extending into the forest surrounding the school. Outside, the air smells faintly metallic at all times.
✽ Occasionally throughout the month and increasing in frequency and intensity towards the end of the month, characters with 13 or more tallies will find themselves sensitive to sunlight and loud noises, prone to vertigo upon standing or turning too quickly, and suffering ice pick headaches throughout the day.
✽ Characters with 5 or less tallies will hear faint white noise during the normally silent hours of midnight to 6AM, but no other sound.
✽ The class roster on the bulletin board acknowledges class 1-D for leading the rest of the classes in rank, being the first to reach 100. All characters in first year classes and #-D classes will receive 500 merit points and will be able to exit out the front door to the school. They will be able to make it up to the front gate, but will find themselves growing lightheaded and about to pass out if they try to squeeze through the bars or climb over the gate itself. Please contact me privately if they would try to get out anyways.
✽ The void in the auditorium continues to grow, and (pending character interaction) by the end of the month will encompass the entire right wing of the first floor past the lockers, the home ec cooking room on the second floor, as well as the art club room on the third floor.

Exchange Program
✽ On October 11, students participating in the exchange program are given one pocket knife each and sent out the front doors, upon which they will find themselves in that canon location as if they had stepped out of any normal door in the area. For characters who visit their own canon's location, they will find all their friends and family alive and happy— except for the one person they are closest to, who will be absent. Nobody there will recognize your character or the person they are closest to, regarding both as complete strangers, as if neither have ever existed in the first place. But otherwise... think of it as canon good end, in contrast to elevator bad end.
✽ There is no bus to take them back to Yogen and they can stay as long as they'd like, even forever if they feel like it. If they wish to return to their real home, though, they would have to first return to Yogen and figure things out from there. The first time they open the pocket knife, they will find a piece of paper tucked between the blade and the handle reading "Use to return." If they use it on other people, that's the local law enforcement's business. In order to return to Yogen, perhaps remembering Natsume's presentation mentioning how they got there in the first place, they will have to use the knife on themselves, or otherwise die by happenstance or, eventually, old age. Two weeks after their return to school, they will find one additional tally on the inside of their wrist.
✽ In return, Yogen receives three exchange students: two familiar and one not.

OOC
✽ The first prompt leads into this month's mini-event, which is becoming a misnomer, maybe they should be called murder events instead.
✽ All students leaving on the exchange program will icly be gone for at least 10/11 - 10/17, although they will be able to return at any later date in October, at the player's discretion, regardless of how much time they experienced on their trip. Just like in the bad end elevator and the void school, nothing physical can be taken back from the exchange trip, but characters can at least drain their bank accounts eating good food and exploring town before coming back.
✽ The new exchange students are former npcs Kouji Seki and Chiaki Kudo, as well as a new student ???. They can be interacted with in their corresponding toplevels below, after 10/11.

You misunderSTAND. I have to stay out here to monitor you—staying too long in the virtual world can damage you irreparaBLY, and it's up to those managing the system—me right now—to ensure no harm comes to those using IT. I'll still be in contact THOUGH. ( he has his ways. ) You won't be completely aLONE, Nagito-kun.
no subject
( is it because of the name or everything else? like that's not how it works, as if he knows how this works, and he doesn't know how this machine works because he's not familiar with it. it doesn't seem like the machines back home, nor has he had enough practice on it to ensure good things will happen from him tinkering around with it. )
I'm already damaged goods. ( reassuringly, but with a smile. ) Does the game not have a backdoor for us to use. Hypothetically, if something was to happen to the person that man's the controls?
( he hums, canting his head to the side. ) How does one get out?
no subject
By having someone let you OUT. There's ways for the games to end of COURSE, or most of THEM, and you should be able to take the headset off after completely clearing IT, but by and large you'll be at my merCY. So I suppose you better hope nothing bad happens to ME.
no subject
( that's more than enough for him to understand the gist of natsume's long explanation, and if it comes down to that then... it means there's no way to play doubles. komaeda reaches to grab the headset, though, looking it over as he proceeds to move his hair a bit so that he can put it on properly — eyes covered by darkness. )
Before you die, Sakasaki-kun, the quick escape route would be to upload your own consciousness.
no subject
I'm not going to DIE. ( here. ) But that isn't an escape ROUTE, Nagito-kun. That's just preserving you—something that can't and won't grow or form new memoRIES, learn from experienCES, or actual LIVE.
( he flicks a switch. )

the room resembles an inn's, wooden and old but well-kept; the bed is fairly comfortable but not overly so... it isn't the most expensive room in the house but it isn't anything cheap either. there's a chest against the other wall beneath a wide arching window that's been cracked open just enough to let in a warm breeze, lavendar curtains moving slightly in it.
komaeda gets the feeling if he checks the chest, he'll find some items that belong to him within it.
the rest of the room is furnished rather plainly: a few small paintings of flowers, an empty blue vase, a desk that has a plate of bacon and eggs left sitting cold on it. the sun coming in through the window implies it's closer to afternoon than morning, and the laughter and chatter of people both from the lobby below and the streets outside of the inn confirm that most people are awake by now.
komaeda, though, is dressed as he was when he went into the virtual reality, and before he gets too into it natsume's voice rings beside his ear. )
...No one else will be able to hear ME, but they're not going to give you strange looks for talking to yourSELF. Don't expect me to give you too much help eiTHER. I'm GOD, not your personal serVANT.
But welcome to SHINSEKAI. ( going by the name on this at least. ) I hope you have a good time exploring IT.
( he's excited to see this, too. )

he wakes up though, eyes fluttering open as he leans up quickly like he's finally caught his breath after drowning — not a terrible experience, but nothing he's never felt before. it's better than the sharp pain of a bullet digging through his skull to end a simulation, and as he tries to gather his bearings; he glances around the room. first the light that drifts past the curtains, and then his gaze falls onto the chest nearby —
there's the urge to check it, but with natsume's voice ringing in his ear — )
Reminds of the fairy from Legend of Zelda, hm... You can be my dear Navi for now.
( god? he won't allow it, but navigator is just as cute... if there was another voice, maybe subaru, then they could be tatl and tael respectively. that's not the case, and rather getting off the bed, he's crawling to the edge to hang down so that he can peek under it. it's best to make sure there's nothing hiding around in the room since he's guessing this is an adventure game first, and he's at the whims of natsume's kindness. )
Does my luck work here, or am I normal... boring person?
( anything that isn't talent is normal and boring, but you know he understands there's other mechanics to this game, he just has to know if he has ol' reliable. )
no subject
but no, there's nothing under the bed; natsume's rolling his eyes at komaeda's caution, but it's something that might save him later on... so it's fine. )
Your luck has no influence in this WORLD, and if it triggers anything on my side by some happenstance and destroys my precious virtual reality sySTEM, I'll consider your life adequate payment in exCHANGE.
( ...but komaeda's luck helps keep him alive, it seems, so it wouldn't trigger against the system itself he's pretty sure; natsume's already made it clear if anything happens to it, it runs a risk of being bad news for komaeda, so... )
Enjoy a luck-free life while you CAN, Nagito-kun.

...It makes me slightly depressed, living in a world like this, making me lower than what I already am.
( his luck is uncontrollable though, and having been told what would happen if anything happens out there he guesses, then it would be unfortunate. they're playing a game where either of them can lose, and so he'll wander over to the chest as he stares at it. kneeling down, he brushes a finger up against the lock, and he's taking in the rough textures surprised at how real things feel here. it's not the neo world program, he knows, but something so small — )
What happens if I die here, "God"?
( curious minds need to know, as he asks, he's going to lift the top of the chest to see what's inside: )
no subject
( just like a video game.
in the chest he'll find the following: a White Sage's Robe, a Wooden Quarterstaff, a Necklace of Dimensional Mastery, and four purple vials. if he equips any of these, they'll replace the clothes he entered the virtual reality with. which is whatever he was wearing previously. )
Cheer UP, Nagito-kun. You're trading your luck for something far greaTER.
( will be very nice and say he has his light novel sage abilities (: a treat for nms. )
no subject
( "a sage? is there a team i'm meant to support?" is a thought that passes through his mind, but only briefly because the moment he touches his items to equip, he's now dressed in his proper attire. he feels as if these have belonged to him for quite awhile, but he has a feeling their stats aren't much considering the wooden quarterstaff in his hands. once the necklace and vials are put in their proper place, he turns around to admire the outfit that he's wearing — mostly to see if it'll accentuate his curves, which he's fully aware is the best part of his body. )
I couldn't call this anything greater, but I'll try it out since you seem proud of your virtual world.
( he'll tap his little staff on the ground, using it as a cane as he makes his way outside of the room, and glances around the top or bottom level of the inn that he's in — depending, he'll walk down the stairs, or walk out of the building because he doesn't have anything to say to the people here. instead, he seems to be looking for certain people who may have a quest to give him, so he's staring at the top of people's heads as if that's how it works here —
he does NOT know how it works here! )
no subject
there are no quest markers, but if he bothers to LISTEN TO PEOPLE he can catch snippets of interesting conversations—an ice mage has taken up camp in the southern end of town and turned the whole place into a mess, there's a small sheepig problem outside of the east gate, a few people in town here and there are looking for people to go out and collect some fairly hard-to-get ingredients for something special they're making... things like that.
also they do not accentuate his curves, it's a shapeless baggy sage robe, god.
if he's just going to keep wandering without listening too hard though, he is eventually going to come upon where the ice mage's domain starts, which is very obvious, because his foot hits icy stone and i hope he can catch himself because otherwise he can fall on his ass and God will laugh at him. )
no subject
after a moment of laying there, he'll get back up properly so that he can walk into the domain, and he's not too sure how this place works, but he's cold enough that he's looking for the complimentary campfire, is there one around if he searched? or does he have to make his own because he's also looking for sticks as he moves forward through hell. )
Sakasaki-kun.
( he's calling for god, because let's make this easier. )
Show me the map.
no subject
...it looks that way.
natsume snorts from beside him, the light twirling around before it disappears. in return, though, he does get a map of the town. komaeda'll see there's a marker at the corner northwest of the fountain in the south, which if he moves will prove to be him! additionally, it's all very white and snowy on the map from the fountain southeast all the way to the edge of the wall, i'm just not editing someone else's work to show it. )
This is the capitol of this counTRY. Best of luck finding the mage for your new QUEST, Nagito-kun. God isn't going to hold your HAND.
