who: Whoever wants to show up.
what: Nine body pileup, who wants to compile info.
when: 10/7, at least
where: Dorms study hall
warnings: Attempted murder over children's games

[in the afternoon, a message shows up on the forums. is she copying Natsume? utterly, since his organization is why she's thinking about this.]

h.adams

Please try to set aside an hour or so of your time this evening at around 7:30 pm to return to the study hall. I'd like to speak with as many people as possible regarding the recent incident in the school.
-H.A.

[and she won't be replying to anything posted below it.

by the time the hour rolls around, Helena's set herself up in the study hall with the rolling whiteboard she took from the school set up. the markers are a toss up between colors, but the important part is there. she's seated herself by it, and when 7:30 hits, an alarm on her PDA goes off. silencing it, she stands up.]

Thank you for coming. I realize it's another demand on people's time, but given the vast scope of the murders, there's more to be said than unsaid. With it, we had no choice but to split up and find what we could, to do our best at the least to remember and categorize what we saw. Generally speaking, I'd like if we could pool our resources to see if we might draw any parallels between what was where, and if there are any peculiarities to distinguish this or that event.

With that said - [she points behind her at the whiteboard, where Rantarou has been kind enough to write out a list] - if we could try to speak individually, we could write down anything critical shared, so we could look at it from a larger perspective. As well, if something comes up in other days, we could reconvene and add in new information.

As I am unable to do it for you, please allow my dependable transcriber to do so. And a final note before we begin - if anyone becomes overly agitated, I request that you kindly step outside until you can keep your voice to a moderate level. Sound echoes well enough without yelling added to the mix.

Let's begin.

That's wrong.

[Immediate and terse, her brows knitting a little bit. It still annoys the hell out of her, the way he differentiates humans by how supposedly special they are or not.]

Dedicating my life... [No, she shakes her head.] ... my existence to one person just simply because of their talent is bullshit. And saying that we're leeches? Is also bullshit.

[She is officially mad, but not for her own, personal sake.]

We're not grains of sand meant to serve a higher cause for someone else. And even from what little I remember of him-- he never seemed to be the kind of person who would want that. Of course, that's presumptuous thinking on my part. But even so. That's wrong, to see anybody's relationship in that light.

[Her hands curl into tight fists by her sides, shaking before unclenching.]

Of course, it's up to us to figure things out, even if none of us wanted to. I didn't, but that's good to know. [That makes her wonder about something, but it's a something that she'll keep in her back pocket for the time being.] But "wanting to let them down" or not is also not up for anyone here to decide... or for you to egg anyone on for.

Am I egging everyone one? I don't believe I am, I'm being honest... You're not meat, nothing fulfilling for their stomach... stepping stones is perfect, actually, you have the chance to make yourself meaningful for someone else!

( honest, now whether it's the truth is a different story, but honesty normally paves the way for them to explore different avenues. she doesn't like a lot of things that he's saying, but no one truly likes to hear the truth — that's all it should be to her anyway. she may have not been here to assist in snuffing it out, so maybe he can't blame her completely, but what he can blame is her lack of understanding when it comes to that ultimate. she should have known him, noticed how special he was, and learned the innerworkings of his mind — komaeda already knows it. )

You're wrong... if you didn't know him well, don't speak for him, but he was kind... and because of that, you all took advantage of it.

( because if they worked on their own, solved things without solely relying on him, using his efforts — maybe he'd be here, and he could scold komaeda for the things that he says. )

I don't know. You're making people play hangman instead of being straightforward with the truth... it's very roundabout.

[And this is where she sighs, closing her eyes.]

Then I'll speak for myself selfishly, then. I don't agree with being a stepping stone for someone else. And I don't want anyone to do that for me, either.

[She's so tired. She's so, so tired of people doing that--]

If I wasn't the kind of person that I am, I'd deck you right there for saying that. For saying that everyone here takes advantage of another person's kindness. Because isn't that being presumptous? No, that's not the right word... you're basically saying that because Saihara was kind, everyone else...!!

[Her hands clench at her sides, shaking.]

That's not fair to everyone.

Even if someone is kind, you can't just basically say that people simply used him for that.

[She unclenches her fist and just—shrugs.]

Who knows...? 'N'.

I'm not making anyone do anything! Actually, you all flocked to me... I could easily be ignored, since scum like me influences nothing...

( he pouts a bit, looking down to the floor, but who needs to be roundabout when he's straightforward this way? that's if they can figure out the secrets behind them, and then they'll be able to connect everything together. besides, explaining it from point a to point z sounds too boring for him, and that's not why he's here. he casts a smile in inaba's direction when she mentions punching him — )

I am saying that you all were greedy... all Ultimates are kind, they give the lesser people the time of day... they should only speak to other hopeful individuals...

( what's he saying about inaba? well, it's not like he feels anything coming off from her, she's the common girl — ordinary, simple, but komaru's the same way. while effort doesn't breed success, and those who are born with talent are the blueprint, he does have to give some credit to those who have nothing, maybe they can do... something. even if it's small.

he'll tilt his head to the side, turning around to draw an "o" onto her hangman. )

Ignoring someone doesn't fix, or even remotely change any of the issues. I have no plans on running away in the face of things.

[Of course, she's well aware that her nature is what causes problems - issues, really - but she isn't going to back down regardless of them.

She has to be stronger.

There's another pause — a shut of her eyes as she tries to steady her breathing yet again, figure out the words she wants to say.]

So because someone is talented, an Ultimate, you can easily assume that they're "kind"? That really, really is some bullshit you're spouting there: I wonder if you even realize it.

[...]

No, do you even remotely care about anything else? We're not in your world, you know: Ultimates or whatever... if they were revered or whatever the hell back where you're from, that shit doesn't apply to this place. Sure, everyone's skills and talents may be useful in one way or another. But saying that someone is skilled automatically makes them kind is certainly some kind of crap. And for the record: I'm talking in general here, not about a specific person, mind you. Because obviously there can be kind and talented people. But there can also be horrible and talented people, too. There's no way in hell [an ironic phrasing, she knows] that all talented people in the world, in any world can be kind. If someone sees them that way, they're deluding themselves. Or they have some fucked up mindset.

Ahh~ What a pain in the ass... but I suppose I should say this. By saying that Ultimates are "giving lesser people the time of day" or "they should only speak to other hopeful individuals"... isn't that just projecting? Or do you really think that those people saw everyone else as 'lesser'?

In a way, that idea - it's a kind of discrimination. Which, honestly, is pretty fucked up. People should be treated as equals. Not as some sort of stupid hierarchy based on what a person is or isn't.

[She sighs, heavy and deep and shakes her head.]

Your last few sentences there. And your first few. Aren't they contradictory? You refer to yourself as 'scum', and yet saying that you're 'kind'. And I'm not using anyone for any reason, and especially not for someone's kindness. Not to mention that's not the reason I'm playing.

[Because if it was...]

If I did that, I would have just simply spoken the answer the last turn and let everyone else have their chance at hangman. After all, that's what you plan to do, isn't it?

I don't need it.

[She pointedly notices that he's ignored the rest of what she's said.]

After all, if you're going to ignore the rest of what I said, I might as well "solve the puzzle". [She speaks those words in air quotes with a sarcastic, dry tone, as if she were answering for Wheel of Fortune.] It's detective's desk, isn't it?

You always knew, didn't you? It was pretty simple once you guessed all the doubles.

( now back to what's important, he did, ignore everything on purpose because he's here to play the game correctly, give hints to what he knows, and carry on. to praise her, he claps his hands once, then twice, and third time's the charm before he drops them down to his side. )

Congratulations. ( she did better than let's say... others, she could have kept a clean noose with no head attached, if she wanted. there's no need to complain about that though, it's solved, and he'll continue on. )

It applies, Ultimates are still a light for you to honor, but since you're part of the common few... it'll be hard for you to accept their radiance so easily! It's fine, I'll overlook it, you've never witnessed anything like it before — though Ultimates and those who lack talent are here, in the end, hope is what you all should be working towards! As long as you have that, everything will work fine, and besides... I remember you well, Inaba-san. You were a stepping stone, and part of the reason the few you remember are still here... they used the hope you gave them with your death to move forward... so fortunately, I have to tell you that you're part of this as well.

( there's no hint of proudness in his voice, rather he's just stating simple facts as he writes in the rest of the letters, and then he turns around to look towards her. she's correct, detective's desk written in capitalized letters, and all thanks to her hard work. he stands to the side so she can see the board better, his thoughts thinking about the note that was left there, along with the blood around it. )

...He was a type of person that could talk to anyone. ( very personalized, able to give what's given to him depending on who he spoke to — he was different when trying to understand each and everyone without discrimination. he gave chances, and for that he was kind, but it wasn't that kindness that got him killed, but the greedy people surrounding him, suffocating his light, and out it went. ) ...and yet, he was hated, can you believe there are those who can look at an Ultimate with disgust? For that card to be left there, someone had to know that was his place of location at the time, even if Kawaii-san was with him...

( he pauses, tapping his chin. )

I wonder who stays close by at that time... hm, you'll figure it out soon enough!

[She's not going to bother and give any sort of satisfaction; it's true that once certain letters were filled in, the puzzle was relatively easy to solve - there were also certain letters that were easy to guess given the setup of this particular one as well.]

A person can be radiant regardless of their skills.

[And just thinking about that, she grips onto the pendant around her neck tight, a purposeful motion — before she drops her hand back down to her side.]

But I don't care about working towards 'hope' or anything like that. After all, the truth behind these murders may not even be hopeful at all. But then again, that wouldn't really surprise me, really.

[He does mention her death and frowns a little bit; she doesn't know much about that in particular, but now is not the place to ask about it, and he's definitely not the person she wants to ask for a straightforward answer regarding the matter, either.

But she hums - mostly to herself as she listens.]

Of course I can believe it. Bullying isn't uncommon in places like this. Even more so if that person has a skill that others of jealous of. Not that I'm saying that is necessarily the motive, but... the way you say it makes it sound like Saihara might have been the only target and that Kawai was collateral damage.

[If that's the case however, that means... aha.]

Of course, even if that's true, the kind of person who would be able to solve the mystery would be someone who knows more about the heart of the matter.

[She's basically admitting, as loathe as she is to it, that this isn't something that she'd be able to solve herself.]
