the date for this to happen at all is important, november first... which is the day samhain was traditionally celebrated.
people would see it has halloween in a sense, but it's not the same, and has gotten lost within the formers meaning, some wiccans still celebrate it, though, and done in many ways.
aside from that, normally we would all know it as saint's day due influence from the church...

today is when spirits and fae are able to cross a veil to our world and us to theirs.
usually one would placate them by giving food or drink.
another piece of trivia is that spirits of the dead are given a seat at the table in belief that their deceased would come visit them.
