11/08 - 11/13 Cultural Festival

The school campus opens its doors to the public early Monday morning, with family, friends, neighbors, and strangers arriving to fill up the halls, each visitor having eyes of gold and wallets full of cash. Festival events run from 8AM to 4PM, and pamphlets are handed out by students lining the locker area, which include a schedule and a map of the campus:

✽ The opening event on Monday is an idol performance in the auditorium by the twin star unit GEMINI, consisting of Natsume Sakasaki and Subaru Akehoshi. On Thursday afternoon, the music club will hold a performance in the auditorium, featuring the typical choir with piano accompaniment, a capella performances by smaller groups of members, as well as solos, with requests taken in between performances so members can switch off and take a break.

✽ The student store is open every day up until noon on Saturday, and while the absurdly high prices are still absurdly high, there is a sign up in front of the rock gacha that one of the prizes is an all day pass to any of the school's events for one day of the festival. The odds aren't worth the price, but it's not like the shopkeep reveals the odds.

✽ Class 1-B is hosting a themed cafe in their homeroom.

✽ Class 1-D has turned their homeroom and neighboring classrooms into escape rooms, which runs from Tuesday to Friday.

✽ The robotics/programing club and the gaming club have set up a variety of video games in 2-A, and are hosting a competition between visitors and their AI.

✽ Class 3-D is hosting a kissing booth in their homeroom.

✽ In the home ec cooking room, the cooking club is hosting a cooking contest, with student judges and prizes for the winners.

✽ The sewing club and the art club have put together a photo booth inside the home ec sewing room, featuring all sorts of props and costumes imaginable to try on and pose in front of a number of hand painted backgrounds. Photos are taken by an instant camera for visitors to take home a keepsake. In the art club room, the art club has a gallery set up, with paintings hanging from the walls and sculptures set up in front of them, and a strict no touching policy or one of the members threatens to scoop your eye out with a palette knife and she doesn't look like she's joking. There is a large open canvas, however, for visitors to try their hand at paints or charcoal or pastels on what will become a collaborative art piece done by an entire week's worth of visitors. Occasionally throughout the festival, an art club member will have a space off to the corner for portraits or face painting.

✽ The sewing club has also contributed plush toy prizes for various other class' game stalls throughout the school, where visitors can pay to play for a chance to win small prizes, and are able to trade up several smaller prizes for larger ones.

✽ Out past the courtyard, various sports teams host games throughout the week, including relay races and obstacle courses and tug o' war and """soccer""". Basically it's sports day, because there had been a sports day on the calendar but I never look at the calendar so it was already halfway through the month before I realized.

✽ The fourth floor hallway has been cleaned up and turned into the rest area, with rugs laid out across the ground and comfy chairs scattered around the room and little bags of cat treats for sale to entice the fluffy white cat into hanging out in this space all week. Even without treats, she is content to sit on people's laps and rub against their ankles and let them bury their faces in her stomach. Healing.

✽ In the evening on the final day, after all the visitors leave, a large bonfire is set up in a non-flammable area between the courtyard and pool building and left to burn late into the night for those students who choose to remain on campus until around 8PM, when the festival culminates in a small fireworks show that lights up the sky overhead in reds and golds, while on the ground, sparklers are passed around for a quiet moment appreciating the beauty, and transience, of life.

✽ Throughout the school year, merit points have occasionally been earned through interactions between students involving strong emotion, whether positive or negative. This month, characters may notice that this happens much more frequently, and the amount of merit points earned is also sometimes more than the typical one point. Please report threads of strong emotion below, as this will minorly affect December.
✽ On 11/23, Yogen sees its first snow of the year, a light dusting across campus that does not stick when the sun rises again the next morning, but it will snow on and off until the end of the month.
✽ This event log doubles as a TDM, with new characters experiencing the recurring feeling of drifting in (school life) and out (canon life) of sleep up until they "open their eyes," after which they will have full awareness and come to their senses.

[ Meng Yao blinks, seeming a little surprised by that comment, and then looks a little sheepish. It's not like that isn't true, but he doesn't feel bothered by it either.

He's listening to what Komaeda's follow-up to that, and he just sort of pauses because that's not what he expected at all. Acting out those things, that is. He believes he did anticipate some kind of posing action going on, but this...it feels so silly. ]

W-wait...why would I say anything like that?

I mean making all of those cat sounds, that is. I suppose only saying 'nyan' might be fine, but the rest seems a bit much. Unless you're going to go around barking like a dog too?

[ He tries to imagine Komaeda doing that, but he just can't. ]

All dogs go "wanwanwan!" Sweet and to the point.

( but that's because he has a bias, and a bias that shows he likes dogs a lot, but he loves animals in general, so he doesn't mind giving cats more of a high reputation than the other. actually, he loves them all equally, but that should be seen by how content he is with meng yao going out their way to even do so. clapping his hands together, komaeda's head tilts to the side to offer a pleasant smile, he's not up to much of anything. )

The other cat sounds gives it more of a liveliness to it, don't you agree? If you don't, you'll never know if you don't try... On one, two, three...!

( that's the sound of komaeda waiting for meng yao to finish the cat sound. )

That somehow seems a little unfair, you should probably add at least one bark.

[ Because wan sounds like such a cute sound. Meng Yao has no particular inclination towards cats or dogs, though he supposes if he has to choose one it'd be something like a fox (but that's not one of the choices, honestly.) It might be a different story if he was, for example, looking for a proper gift to someone who was relatively young.

Anyway, he is absolutely prepared to not say it! He is a dignified cultivator. Maybe he was disgraced from the Nie Sect and still has yet to properly join the Jin Sect, but still, he'll refuse! He'll absolutely refuse! ]

M-mew! [ Ah, wait no that wasn't it. His nerves just got to him because he's embarrassed. ] Ah, er, purr...

This is a little embarrassing. Nyan?

[ ...He's glad no one else who knows him even just a little doesn't see him like this. ]

( he's inspecting to make sure meng yao can do it properly, it takes more than saying "mew" or "er, purr", or even a "nyan?" to get a pass. komaeda shakes his head at the first, then the second, and maybe the third could have been fine had he not showed his embarrassment. it's a shame he doesn't have a video recorder, he thinks it would have been fitting for this sort of scenario. )

You have to put more into it! There's not enough feeling, cats are proud animals... do you want to roar?

( now that sounds like it's pushing it, but komaeda will let him if he wants — a ferocious one would do good, a loud sound that would echo in the room, and out the hall, and maybe people can run out at the sound of it. he knows meng yao isn't capable of it, but the thought it's too hilarious that komaeda has to encourage it. )

Have proper posture, and then sway your hips so your... ah, that's right your tail! You need a tail... fluffy or short? Then you can "mroooow~" perfectly.

[ Oh my god, Komaeda...Meng Yao has a hard time even raising his voice even when he has to. Roaring is just out of the question, though he vaguely imagines how much trouble and disturbances it might cause and so he just immediately shakes his head at the question. ]

I couldn't roar even if I tried. That sort of thing would also draw way too much attention, I'm afraid. I wouldn't want to ruin anyone having a good time or conversation...

[ He pauses for a moment to consider the rest. ]

...I think shaking my hips is a little too provocative, isn't it? And silly, really. But you know, since you're being so kind in trying to instruct me, perhaps it'll be more effective if we made these sounds at the same time? Ah, I mean, easier, if I'm not doing it alone.

Provocative? No way! You'd have to do the mating signal for that to happen, you know how the school rules work.

( that way they're fine with moving their hips around, or well, meng yao's hips because komaeda isn't doing anything like that. as the other said, he's here to instruct, and doing that means handing him advice so that he can stick to it. it's when he asks komaeda to join in making sounds that he can't help but think they'll sound like strays in a pound, but hopefully no one around comes close in wanting to adopt them. )

I never took you for the type to be so needy, hm... Is that why you stay around Amami-kun, because he gives everyone his attention?

( with a tilt of his head, he watches meng yao closely, and then after he parts his mouth with a: )

Wanwan!

[ ... You know what, he absolutely asked for that first response (not intentionally, mind you, just you know), so he will receive it just fine and brush past it. It's the one that follows which makes him pause, not knowing how to respond to that because it catches him off guard. So when all else fails he just allows his expression to turn somewhere towards a default front with a smile. ]

I happen to stick around Rantarou a good amount of time since we are friends. You have friends you like to hang around the majority of time with, don't you?

[ But he ensures that, despite the misgivings (?) he has about embarrassing himself from before, that he times it just right with: ]

Mew! Meow...Nyan!

[ It probably sounds terrible, but he thinks it can be far worse, so maybe it's not so bad. ]

Amami-kun.

( he corrects, quickly, because he seems a bit put off on the first name basis, he's not trash like komaeda so it should be the last name, right? that's how someone would show respect to an ultimate, and komaeda takes a deep breath as he looks off to the side. he's not concerned, or worried, or frustrated, but to say his first name so shameless, it does make komaeda wonder the meaning behind that. do friends say each others first name? he couldn't even think of doing so, considering the romantic connotations that can be seen from it. )

But no, I don't have friends, I have loved classmates, and my peers.

( he's too down on himself to save something one would call immediate friends, but he does have people that he talks to? that he spends his time with. though, the other's display of animal sounds is getting better, he has a very bold variety that he's using now — the mew to the aggressive meow! and then the cute little nyan that follows suit, and komaeda claps. )

Again, but standing on one leg!

[ Meng Yao blinks at the correction. He also supposes he can just apologize and indicate it's a mistake. Though, it's not. But then there's the follow-up which gives him time for consideration as well.

It's an interesting comment, though ultimately one he decides not to argue with—the one about not having friends. If someone truly believes that, then are they really wrong? So at that, he just nods his head slightly to indicate he's accepted the answer.

Next, Meng Yao performs a bow, still thinking about the reaction at his addressing of Rantarou. Not addressing it properly can hurt them both, especially from now on...how they call each other as a person has changed. ]

I probably should've phrased my response better a little earlier to make something clear. The way I addressed him was agreed upon, by the both of us, so it wasn't a mistake. I apologize if I may have made you discomforted.

[ The culture is different, but similar enough that he believes should make it clear.

After that, he considers the request. Or well, he technically already has, though really even if he thinks that cats don't usually go around standing on one leg...he does it anyway, after standing up properly from his previous position. ]

Mew! Meow...Nyan~

It was agreed, between you both...? ( to have an ultimate acknowledge someone like that by first names, and for someone to do so vice versa. he did, at the start, tell meng yao to stay by ishimaru's side, but it seems that has also went to amami's as well, but who wouldn't want to be under the radiance of an ultimate. it's that reason specifically that causes komaeda to accept this with ease, his hands pressed together, fingers slipping through the cracks with a small smile. )

And what does he call you?

( as if he has to understand how deep this rabbit hole goes, luckily he doesn't appear offended anymore, instead, too busy watching how the other listens to him for the next display of cat excellence. oh, oh! he did it, so komaeda offers him praise in the form of clapping, and he hops onto one leg, playing the same matching game — )

Wanwan...~

( with both feet on the ground, he stands still, and then he snaps his fingers — oh, that's right. )

We make that part of our choreography! Instead, we have to do it at the same time, and maybe clap, clap, spin. Sort of like a dancing game, what do you think?

A-Yao.

[ Meng Yao feels it more than he states it but he does so clearly, certainly, and gently. It makes him feel warm, and happy. Though Meng Yao thinks that's normal, even if it hasn't been a regular occurrence for someone like him. It also reminds him that he's fortunate, to meet Rantarou, as another person he can trust.

Either way, it puts him into a good mood for cat-dog dance move time, and that's what really matters. ]

I've never played any sort of dancing game, but it actually sounds like it might be fun. So, if we're going to do something like that, how about we begin practicing it right now? On a count of three, of course. So, 1, 2, 3...

[ After the count off, he makes the same noises again, in the exact same perfect way, presuming Komaeda will do the same. Then of course, claps twice, and spins on his heel before stopping ... also kind of calculated but it somehow seems natural. Less awkward than his earlier vocalizations.

He muses that doing this kind of makes him feel younger, though he's never done things that most kids would do. ]

( a-yao, that sort of familiarity, is it? intimate enough, and matches calling someone like an ultimate by their first name — hm, he looks off to the side, a little thrown off. how should he take this, part of him feels the need to correct, but instead he clears his throat. )

To be on such a level, that means you're willing to —

( oh wait, let him fall in the pattern of their little game as he starts on 3, offering his opening of a small "woof ~", and then his hands clap together in a one, two, so that it matches the rhythm that's set by meng yao. it'll echo into the room, and whereas the other manages to stop perfectly after the spin, komaeda's is playfully sloppily as he does his best not to fall over — hopping a little to the side before he manages to catch himself.

leaning up, he claps his hands together in gesture of wiping away the dust. ) ...give your entire body and soul to him, correct?

( he gives meng yao a moment to consider what's being said, since this is a serious discussion, well that's until he waits for the other to open his mouth, and komaeda — )

1! ( clap! ) 2! ( clap! ) 3! ( clap! )

Haaaa~ Woof, woof...~

( he starts with a curtsy pose, leaned forward for a few seconds before leaning up, and he motions his hands to the left side, clapping about three times, a little bounce in his step, and he brings both hands before his chest to slap two times in rhythm as he looks towards meng yao to take his turn. )

[ Meng Yao supposes he should've expected the other to say something like that, as it was well within his nature. It almost feels like it comes out of left field. It still doesn't keep him from blinking and feeling as if he'll need to take a pause before answering that, watching as the other is composing himself a bit there.

...When he opens his mouth, Komaeda's sudden continuance of their 'routine' throws him off, but already he's giving a soft 'meow' at the count off, and just like that, he's already followed suit so that when Komeada's gaze is upon him, he's ensured it's three claps. ]

Mew, purr...nyan~

[ Then, he'll proceed to do sweep an arm forward as he bows, before righting himself, clapping three more times himself, following the rhythm the other has given. Though, as opposed to Komaeda's left, he makes it to the right side, and copies the hand motion to his own chest, followed by the two claps. ]

This one humbly does believe Rantarou is deserving of such loyalty from him. Though, it is a little embarrassing to admit. In the end, it might not sound or seem pragmatic, but...it's not as such things are given so carelessly or thoughtlessly. But, you understood that just by asking what you did, didn't you?

[ Meng Yao thinks himself a pragmatic person, and yet he doesn't do anything half-way. ]

Amami-kun is a frightening Ultimate, the title that he has says so.

( an ultimate with a talent that could wipe everyone here clear from existence and be the only one left, a charming talent, but a talent that can limit those who wish to succeed. in a way, that ultimate doesn't need anyone else, but the thought of giving himself to that person also comes to his mind causes him to smile as such. kind, sweet, but it's hard to tell if that's towards what komaeda's thinking about, or if he's happy that meng yao managed to follow the steps with his own added pieces. )

I love what he's capable of, the light of hope that shines from him even if muddled by a bit of darkness.

( he crosses his arms, tilting his head to the side as thinks of the best moment to move in their little game, and all the while the camera is taking pictures from their antics. komaeda deson't think much of it as he circles meng yao, standing behind him, clapping three times, twirling to his side, and clapping two. )

Have you been let down by him from what you've seen so far? ( the fact that the other is always by him will make komaeda raise a brow if the response isn't negative, so he keeps an excited expression while speaking. ) ...In truth, handing yourself to him wouldn't be entirely bad. To see him elevate higher than before... ( he claps his hands together closing his eyes as he makes his decision, and it's a decision he's always chosen. )

I love Amami-kun. ( ... ) How do you feel about him?

[ ...Frightening? Meng Yao considers the words with a pensive expression. Well, he doesn't think the same, though he does give Komaeda a questioning and curious look, before he begins to answer both questions. ]

...I think it's fair for me to say that it is only natural that even for all of the strengths a person may have, they are not always at their best, because to say that is placing them on a pedestal. Since it would be impossible for someone to be perfect, it'd be unkind of me to say that of even Rantarou, who I hold in high esteem. But, that doesn't change how well I view him, or the fact that I'm unwilling to say anything bad of him if I can help it.

[ He believes that is an adequate answer on its own. He is far too polite to allow such a question be answered strictly in a negative manner, when it's in regards to Rantarou's character—someone who he trusts and has come to love.

Though, he does feel a stab of jealousy when Komaeda says he loves Rantarou. But...well, he wonders if it really is the same; Komaeda is still not known very well to him, but he can imagine him saying those words of any other Ultimate. In the end, however...what does he know?

He does wonder at his own thoughts on the matter, as well, because he is forced to acknowledge feelings he has recently discovered in the first place. He'll need time to reflect on them. Better later than now, however. ]

I admire Rantarou. He's courageous, brave, and adventurous. He's thoughtful and careful in his own way. He's someone who I feel can be resourceful, and reliable, not to mention...kind. He's not the type of person to look down on others either.

...I feel honored, to have the chance to be by his side when I'm able. To have the opportunity to get to know him, and to see what he is like. He's someone I care deeply about, someone I would support in his endeavors, and while I believe there are many more things I can say regarding my personal opinion on him, this will do for now.

[ And with that he thinks that he's finished here with the little dance. Meng Yao gives the other a brief smile before he takes off the cat ears and holds it out for the other to take back, though. He doesn't want to run off with something that's not his, after all. ]
