11/08 - 11/13 Cultural Festival

The school campus opens its doors to the public early Monday morning, with family, friends, neighbors, and strangers arriving to fill up the halls, each visitor having eyes of gold and wallets full of cash. Festival events run from 8AM to 4PM, and pamphlets are handed out by students lining the locker area, which include a schedule and a map of the campus:

✽ The opening event on Monday is an idol performance in the auditorium by the twin star unit GEMINI, consisting of Natsume Sakasaki and Subaru Akehoshi. On Thursday afternoon, the music club will hold a performance in the auditorium, featuring the typical choir with piano accompaniment, a capella performances by smaller groups of members, as well as solos, with requests taken in between performances so members can switch off and take a break.

✽ The student store is open every day up until noon on Saturday, and while the absurdly high prices are still absurdly high, there is a sign up in front of the rock gacha that one of the prizes is an all day pass to any of the school's events for one day of the festival. The odds aren't worth the price, but it's not like the shopkeep reveals the odds.

✽ Class 1-B is hosting a themed cafe in their homeroom.

✽ Class 1-D has turned their homeroom and neighboring classrooms into escape rooms, which runs from Tuesday to Friday.

✽ The robotics/programing club and the gaming club have set up a variety of video games in 2-A, and are hosting a competition between visitors and their AI.

✽ Class 3-D is hosting a kissing booth in their homeroom.

✽ In the home ec cooking room, the cooking club is hosting a cooking contest, with student judges and prizes for the winners.

✽ The sewing club and the art club have put together a photo booth inside the home ec sewing room, featuring all sorts of props and costumes imaginable to try on and pose in front of a number of hand painted backgrounds. Photos are taken by an instant camera for visitors to take home a keepsake. In the art club room, the art club has a gallery set up, with paintings hanging from the walls and sculptures set up in front of them, and a strict no touching policy or one of the members threatens to scoop your eye out with a palette knife and she doesn't look like she's joking. There is a large open canvas, however, for visitors to try their hand at paints or charcoal or pastels on what will become a collaborative art piece done by an entire week's worth of visitors. Occasionally throughout the festival, an art club member will have a space off to the corner for portraits or face painting.

✽ The sewing club has also contributed plush toy prizes for various other class' game stalls throughout the school, where visitors can pay to play for a chance to win small prizes, and are able to trade up several smaller prizes for larger ones.

✽ Out past the courtyard, various sports teams host games throughout the week, including relay races and obstacle courses and tug o' war and """soccer""". Basically it's sports day, because there had been a sports day on the calendar but I never look at the calendar so it was already halfway through the month before I realized.

✽ The fourth floor hallway has been cleaned up and turned into the rest area, with rugs laid out across the ground and comfy chairs scattered around the room and little bags of cat treats for sale to entice the fluffy white cat into hanging out in this space all week. Even without treats, she is content to sit on people's laps and rub against their ankles and let them bury their faces in her stomach. Healing.

✽ In the evening on the final day, after all the visitors leave, a large bonfire is set up in a non-flammable area between the courtyard and pool building and left to burn late into the night for those students who choose to remain on campus until around 8PM, when the festival culminates in a small fireworks show that lights up the sky overhead in reds and golds, while on the ground, sparklers are passed around for a quiet moment appreciating the beauty, and transience, of life.

✽ Throughout the school year, merit points have occasionally been earned through interactions between students involving strong emotion, whether positive or negative. This month, characters may notice that this happens much more frequently, and the amount of merit points earned is also sometimes more than the typical one point. Please report threads of strong emotion below, as this will minorly affect December.
✽ On 11/23, Yogen sees its first snow of the year, a light dusting across campus that does not stick when the sun rises again the next morning, but it will snow on and off until the end of the month.
✽ This event log doubles as a TDM, with new characters experiencing the recurring feeling of drifting in (school life) and out (canon life) of sleep up until they "open their eyes," after which they will have full awareness and come to their senses.

His smile is a little more confident at the compliment and he sits a little straighter, nodding slightly. But it seems he's losing his shy edge at the chance to talk about this particular topic.]

Me an' a couple of others in class are, yeah. Nagi was awfully kind for pickin' the lot of us out, even if he coulda asked the upper years for a hand all the same. Theatre's a passion for a lotta us in there.

( there's something so charming about listening to people talk about the things they love. she ignores the weird click in the back of her mind as he calls komaeda "nagi"- although, it's a cute nickname, and it's sweet that they seem to be close like that! nene nods as she listens, before glancing back to the wonderland cafe, maybe a little wistfully. )

But he doesn't mind, watching her over the way her hands move across the screen of hee phone. He still can't quite meet her eyes in this setting, but he does glance to and from them.]

He said somethin' like that. How we were better than two-bit roles, an' how we could help the people who played shine an' all... M'used to being in the background, so it was nice bein' in the front for once.

[Stepping stones are still cherished in their own. The teen hesitates, then sips his tea to stall a moment more.]

Well... There's supposed to be a play in the comin' months, sorta a yearly thing us younger folk're supposed to put on to give the seniors a show they can enjoy without bein' on stage themselves, but I dunno if I'm gonna get a role. Yui's more likely than me, she's stunnin'.

[A classmate, apparently, who Nene may meet sooner over later.]

But I'm still gonna try out, especially... if ya say you'll come an' see it, Yashiro-han.

( nene nods, because that sounds like him. )

you did really good! i almost forgot it was a game...

( still, at the sound of a play, nene perks up immediately, eyes wide before she nods, the buns bouncing with each sway. a play! and he might be in it! and maybe some of the others but honestly we know what we're about here and it's our beloved fairy boy!!! )

[Her excitement worsens the color in his cheeks and it peaks at his ears, which she can see now have a few piercings in each. Fairies aren't allowed to have metal in their realm, but outside of it they're quite free. He turns his face away, hoping he can have half the confidence he does in a role right now--]

In... that case, Yashiro-han... I'll do m'best to get a part right on center stage.

[Because he's far more comfortable as someone else than himself.

Speaking of the game before, though. He fiddles with the cup again, sipping at it.]

M'sorry if I made ya uncomfortable before, by the way. I didn't realize ya had a boyfriend. Iolanthe ain't much the type to care, but that's the fairy side of her an' all... Stupid of me to think a sweet lookin' girl like ya wouldn't be taken though.

( is the only thing that comes out of her mouth, which may or may not be an upgrade from the flustered squeak from the game. she'd... well, she hadn't forgotten about that, but she didn't think it would be brought up. stupid of her, really. her eyes slowly widen and her cheeks flush again and nene has to look away for a moment.

[Even if he shouldn't, for a variety of reasons -- transfer students attract trouble, more than the usual folk -- it's cute to see her fluster more and more, and he keeps the thought to his own rosy cheeks as he sips the tea quietly, waiting for her to be done. When she finally is he isn't surprised, it's... a nice way to put someone down, but he's actor enough not to let it show when he sets the empty cup aside and plays with his hands beneath the table.]

M'not lookin' to be yer lover, Yashiro-han, ya don't have to worry about that... [What a lie. He was hoping, maybe, for some autumn-sprung romance, falling in love the way the leaves tear from the trees in preparation for winter's slumber. That's what it had felt like, with every flower in bloom around her.] I just didn't wanna be steppin' on any toes 'cause of my role an' all.

So, uh, yeah. S'fine. If we're friends an' all. I'd like that too, I mean, to get to know you.

[Oh, he's so charming. His clubmates would be laughing about this for sure, he's taking a quick glance around to make sure none of them are spying before he relaxes a little more. Actor's composure, one two beat, three four settle.]

( she'd like to accept that at face value- but... well. after the other day, she knows she can't. even with his role, there was... signs. but she can still accept it, at least, and offer him a relieved if not flushed smile, because- well- none of her rejections have ever been so gentle. she tries not to make it sting more than it already will- lord knows she's had enough of that on behalf of everyone she's ever spoken to.

god, what even was yogen? at home, she never would have been on this side of the conversation. ... it sucked. a lot. she hates being in this position, actually?

wait, wait, wait!! that doesn't matter now! if they're going to be friends, then... )

( a simple, earnest declaration, even through a digital voice. what a lovely day this is turning out to be. )

[Be still, his hummingbird heart. Oh, he doesn't know where to start. What do people do when they get to know each other. What did Shakespeare do. Romeo and Juliet knew each other with their hands and lips but that's a little inappropriate. Maybe if he sits here long enough, Ren thinks, she'll say something instead. But what if she thinks he doesn't want to talk. But he already said he did. So that should be fine, right? Right.

( thankfully for ren, nene is unaware of his internal struggle and despite how tired she's been, how quiet she has to be, it does little to damper her ability to carry a conversation. though it's a little annoying that her hands have to be occupied, given that she's normally so expressive... ah well. )

so when did you get into acting? is there a role you'd really want to play someday?

[Oh, that's good, she's undeterred. Ren likes people like this; all his friends in club are the same, given they're actors.]

Just this year. I wanted to do somethin' fun and easy, an' they needed a stagehand... So I helped out a couple of times back in spring, and I always admired everyone doin' their best on stage... Yui told me to give it a try myself, 'cause she needed a partner for a role anyway, and...

[... It had just come so naturally, after the first couple of stumbles. He realizes after a beat he hadn't actually spoken aloud and clears his throat.]

An' I started snaggin' roles as extras and minor figures. It was a lotta fun, so even if I'm kinda the runt of everyone in there I'm doin' my best to catch up. Don't really have my sights set on anything yet though -- a lot of the good roles go to the third years, but that's why our next play's somethin' all of us are lookin' forward to.

i'm glad she did, and that you did too!

( not only was the escape room fun, but people having their passions, the things that bring them joy- it's hard not to find a bit of joy in that yourself, too. not everything comes from serendipity but even her own talents and hobbies, however sadly they may have started out, made her happy. )

cause they have more experience and not a lot of time left, right? its kind of like that for sports teams, isn't it? but i'm glad everyone else is gonna get a chance too.

[More the first, in reality -- you have to learn the basics before you even begin to build yourself higher, as their director loves to say, but Nene wouldn't be interested in that. Or she would, but he wouldn't want to smear his seniors too much in front of the girl.]

Yer in the gardenin' club, right? How'd ya get into it? [...] I like plants an' all myself, one of my sisters owns a flower shop I help out in every now and then, but I can't say I've got much of a green thumb.

( ah... nene flusters slightly, looking away for a moment. it's... it used to be embarrassing for a different reason. )

to be honest it's not the most impressive reason.
someone i liked said they liked feminine girls. so i taught myself to garden, cook and sew.

went badly
but i'm still grateful i learned it all, because i love all of them sincerely. it's for me now.

( she was so childish... but also, she was in middle school. she really is hard on herself, honestly- and she doesn't realize it. she still can't quite look back up yet though, even as the mechanical voice reads aloud. )

i think there's nothing funner than planning a plot, and nothing more satisfying than a fresh harvest. i like learning new things about them all and getting to try them. working with plants is fun and invigorating. and making clothes and plushies, and learning new recipes too. and through that i can do things like this cafe.

( infatuation gone wrong, shot down as it should have been, grown and nurtured into something pure- a love for the rest around her and for the world she lives in.

... finally, she glances up. )
