11/08 - 11/13 Cultural Festival

The school campus opens its doors to the public early Monday morning, with family, friends, neighbors, and strangers arriving to fill up the halls, each visitor having eyes of gold and wallets full of cash. Festival events run from 8AM to 4PM, and pamphlets are handed out by students lining the locker area, which include a schedule and a map of the campus:

✽ The opening event on Monday is an idol performance in the auditorium by the twin star unit GEMINI, consisting of Natsume Sakasaki and Subaru Akehoshi. On Thursday afternoon, the music club will hold a performance in the auditorium, featuring the typical choir with piano accompaniment, a capella performances by smaller groups of members, as well as solos, with requests taken in between performances so members can switch off and take a break.

✽ The student store is open every day up until noon on Saturday, and while the absurdly high prices are still absurdly high, there is a sign up in front of the rock gacha that one of the prizes is an all day pass to any of the school's events for one day of the festival. The odds aren't worth the price, but it's not like the shopkeep reveals the odds.

✽ Class 1-B is hosting a themed cafe in their homeroom.

✽ Class 1-D has turned their homeroom and neighboring classrooms into escape rooms, which runs from Tuesday to Friday.

✽ The robotics/programing club and the gaming club have set up a variety of video games in 2-A, and are hosting a competition between visitors and their AI.

✽ Class 3-D is hosting a kissing booth in their homeroom.

✽ In the home ec cooking room, the cooking club is hosting a cooking contest, with student judges and prizes for the winners.

✽ The sewing club and the art club have put together a photo booth inside the home ec sewing room, featuring all sorts of props and costumes imaginable to try on and pose in front of a number of hand painted backgrounds. Photos are taken by an instant camera for visitors to take home a keepsake. In the art club room, the art club has a gallery set up, with paintings hanging from the walls and sculptures set up in front of them, and a strict no touching policy or one of the members threatens to scoop your eye out with a palette knife and she doesn't look like she's joking. There is a large open canvas, however, for visitors to try their hand at paints or charcoal or pastels on what will become a collaborative art piece done by an entire week's worth of visitors. Occasionally throughout the festival, an art club member will have a space off to the corner for portraits or face painting.

✽ The sewing club has also contributed plush toy prizes for various other class' game stalls throughout the school, where visitors can pay to play for a chance to win small prizes, and are able to trade up several smaller prizes for larger ones.

✽ Out past the courtyard, various sports teams host games throughout the week, including relay races and obstacle courses and tug o' war and """soccer""". Basically it's sports day, because there had been a sports day on the calendar but I never look at the calendar so it was already halfway through the month before I realized.

✽ The fourth floor hallway has been cleaned up and turned into the rest area, with rugs laid out across the ground and comfy chairs scattered around the room and little bags of cat treats for sale to entice the fluffy white cat into hanging out in this space all week. Even without treats, she is content to sit on people's laps and rub against their ankles and let them bury their faces in her stomach. Healing.

✽ In the evening on the final day, after all the visitors leave, a large bonfire is set up in a non-flammable area between the courtyard and pool building and left to burn late into the night for those students who choose to remain on campus until around 8PM, when the festival culminates in a small fireworks show that lights up the sky overhead in reds and golds, while on the ground, sparklers are passed around for a quiet moment appreciating the beauty, and transience, of life.

✽ Throughout the school year, merit points have occasionally been earned through interactions between students involving strong emotion, whether positive or negative. This month, characters may notice that this happens much more frequently, and the amount of merit points earned is also sometimes more than the typical one point. Please report threads of strong emotion below, as this will minorly affect December.
✽ On 11/23, Yogen sees its first snow of the year, a light dusting across campus that does not stick when the sun rises again the next morning, but it will snow on and off until the end of the month.
✽ This event log doubles as a TDM, with new characters experiencing the recurring feeling of drifting in (school life) and out (canon life) of sleep up until they "open their eyes," after which they will have full awareness and come to their senses.

Meng Yao smiles a little, either way. ]

I don't think I can blame you for being happy. Though, have you had a chance to participate in the events so far or...?

[ Everything is new and exciting and her mental processes are all going brrrrrrrrrr and she doesn't think she can't be happy about everything that's coming together for her sake. ]

Events?

[ She spares Meng Yao's face and lowers the paper in her hand, looking down at it as if actually noticing the words for the very first time. ]

Oh! I beat lots of people at video games! And I ran around a little, and I tried to touch my toes (I couldn't do it), and I tried to jump up and touch the ceiling (I couldn't do that either)! It's been very fun so far!

[ And so his face remains safe from being a casualty of war. ]

Oh? It sounds like you've been up to quite a lot, then.

[ Exploring what one can do and playing around in the midst of this are perfectly acceptable actions to take. He figures that it's a good and traditional way for starting the readjustment to having a body. ]

It doesn't sound like you've tried your hand at that game where you can win plush toys. Would you like to give it a try? It seems the sewing club are the ones who set it up, after all.

Yes, please! As long as it doesn't require touching my toes or the ceiling, I can do it!

[ Probably! she's willing to give it a try, anyways, making her way down the hall about three paces before she suddenly whips back around to stare at Meng Yao. ]

I don't know where it is!

...I hope you didn't get yourself hurt if you attempted either of those things.

[ But he's blinking at the statement, feeling a bit of amusement. ]

How about I show you, then? In the meanwhile, why don't you tell me about your favorite kind of game or which one you've been the best at?

[ He doesn't anticipate it'll be too long of a trip as he easily begins to show her the way to the game. ]

I didn't!

[ Can't get hurt without pain receptors. But she looks excited at the prospect, trotting back to his side and stepping in alongside him. ]

I have very good reflexes! And I'm good at timing!

[ No pain, and instantaneous reflexes too. Robot bodies have their perks. ]

But throwing and jumping are hard, so if there's one like that, please play for me!

[ Meng Yao will count that as a blessing. ]

[ So here they are, because the game probably really isn't that far away...and it looks like there might be some throwing involved, so hm. ]

Here is the game in question. I guess in that case, I'd be playing for you, though you can tell me which one you'd want?

[ Ohh, a target practice game. It's one she could eventually become good at, probably, able to go through the exact same motions with robot precision and making the necessary adjustments each time, but that would be less interesting to her than squishing beanbags and poking the tips of her finger with darts. ]

The moth, please! It has a squishy body, and flat wings, and hard eyes, and a fuzzy head, and the fabric is very soft!

[ In terms of texture, this one has the most. ]

Alright, let's go for that one, then.

[ Meng Yao prepares himself, after handing over the money needed to play, and gets his uh...throwing ball, let us just say. Knocking over a certain amount of those so-called obstacles should be simple since he's aiming low. For once not having absurd arm strength works well in his favor.

After calculating the probable trajectory after tossing the ball, he hits over the fewest amount of...let's say it's probably cans?? Or something. After talking to the person attending the stall, he gestures to the doll she requested, and she's being handed the plush after he takes it. ​]

There you go. I suppose I meant for you to have an active part in this, but at least you do get something nice out of it, hm?

[ Rei leans on the counter to watch him, glancing at the concentration on his face and following the ball with a turn of her head as it hits the cans, hands clapping together not just once in delight but multiple times in applause. ]

Direct hit! Wow wow wow!

[ Watching it, she's decided, is a lot more exciting than doing it herself, which would've been half a dozen attempts of learning how to throw in the first place. She accepts the toy with a cheery thank you! and, in turn, squishes its body, flattens its wings, taps the tip of her finger on one eye and then the other, and rubs the fuzz on top of its head. ]

[ She holds it out to Meng Yao. ]

[ Meng Yao simply blinks at the offer, before allowing himself a slight smile. He thinks he would do the same thing if he were younger, and someone had passed such a toy to him. ]

This one thanks you for the opportunity.

[ He says with a hint of amusement, but he does carefully and lightly touch at it. ]

Feels as soft as it looks. Are you also going to name your new friend?

[ Her face brightens up with pride when he declares it soft, as if she had sewed the thing itself. It really is very soft... she gives it another squish while it's still in her hands, and then holds it to him a little more insistently. ]

No. Why don't you keep this, and give it a name? You're good at names! You gave me one of mine!

[filialdeception]

[ ...that sure is a plushie being handed out to him. He looks actually a little surprised? Or maybe it's more than that because he looks sheepish but seems unsure of what to do.

Still, he doesn't exactly reach out to grab it or anything, and there's a reason for that. ]

Thank you for your kind praise, but...

Wasn't this the one you wanted the most? I can't just take what you said you'd like to have. Unless I'm able to at least get one for yourself as well. It seems unfair, doesn't it?

Is it unfair?

[ He played the game, he won the prize, he should keep it. It doesn't seem unfair to her at all, regardless of what she wanted, and especially because she's offering. ]

Then... You keep that one, and win another for me! I'll name yours and you name mine! How's that?

[filialdeception]

[ And then we have Meng Yao here who literally just can't wrap his head around someone wanting to hand over something that they wanted to him.

But he just smiles pleasantly at the question and nods, finally taking the plushie. ]

Alright, that sounds agreeable.

Oh, and by the way, which one would you want as a replacement?
