( rereading the book offers many things, even maybe out the corner of subaru's eyes, he'll see another thoughtful piece that connects to the former:

"what reason do i have to continue living? lowering and raising my arm each day... switching my eyes back and forth from green to red... what's the point of it all? i've grown to find it tedious. let me die, then. but how? that's right...i was still deciding between lighting and an eruption..."

luckily for subaru, luckily... that was a pretty good idea, because when he comes up to the roof, and opens the door to find it only opens by a mere crack, and he'll hit something behind it — a small thump, nothing too big or important, or maybe it is...

does he want to push the door even more? )

[... maybe he is like, a detective. he'll gently push it enough that he can crouch down and look through it, with the help of the moon and the darkness he's gotten used to (with a goal in mind, it doesn't bother him so much) maybe he can see what, or who, it is.]

( that's sooooo unfair, because when he pushes it gently, there's nothing immediate, and he can see a few droplets of blood, sadly they've already been there... and most of that is stained into komaeda's jacket... from stabbing a shard of glass into his arm god knows how long ago. luckily subaru didn't push the door roughly, huh? would have made more blood come out, and send his ass directly to the void, but he's spared.

anyway, he'll find komaeda laying on the ground, face first... congrats! )

[oh my god if nothing else, he is a dog who is good at finding bodies. the smell of blood is keener with no sound, and even if there had been it feels like the only thing he can "hear" is the distance pounding of his own in his ears.]

( his body is fine... enough, there's nothing wrong with him aside from the stab wound in his arm? but that's normal, typical komaeda behavior that doesn't need any tending to. he's not dead, unfortunately, because subaru can tell that he's breathing, and just not all there — he could kill komaeda RIGHT now if he wanted to, unfortunately, he is not that brave or evil.

just leave him there, he'll come back to his senses soon enough. )

he breathes a quiet, even for the time, sigh of relief, sitting down beside komaeda and looking up at the stars. subaru takes out his pda, squinting at the time and then tapping out a reply to rokuro finally--]

[... well, half a truth is the truth. komaeda is okay. he glances down at the other, wonders if he ought to try that magic again, and decides that risking it would lead to one of two outcomes -- neither of them ideal.]

( he'll be in the present world in four hours (no i lied maybe an hr), i hope subaru enjoys having to sit there on the roof top with his limp body until he decides he's ready to come out the void.

[it's fine he can watch the stars and count them out to calm himself. think about how the only way he can tell komaeda is alive by the faint breath against his hand every now and then (because he checks, just to make sure) because the other is so corpse-like otherwise. subaru will never play with komaeda's hands tf he will only ever wring the hood dont worry.
