and at the same time, it doesn't settle well with him, how pleased he feels to be complimented in such a way, and he ignores the clawing in his stomach to offer the counselor a polite smile. )
Thank you very MUCH. I'd like to see the end of the school YEAR.
( "I didn't want to die," but they're already dead. Seeing the end of the school year is a much better way to put it. )
Do you remember every student's talLIES?
( because that's QUITE A LOT. )
no subject
You're well on your way, as long as you keep being you.
[ There's no need for him to say anything else about that, nor does he think Natsume is one of the students to be reminded of this. But then they're back to the tallies. ]
If I make an effort, otherwise those tallies are remembered in broad strokes. Some are more interesting than others, as you can imagine.
no subject
What's the most interesting one you can rememBER? Keep your names; I understand patient confidentiality is imporTANT, and I'm not that interested to know who they ARE.
( just what they did. )
no subject
[ Technically, this falls under the umbrella of "broad strokes" but, for this reason or that, it was an event he found immensely intriguing. ]
Your turn. Which has interested you the most, this school year?
no subject
It might be nice to say that absolutely none of them did, but that isn't the truth, and Natsume eats a little more of the pasteli before he answers. He's thinking about the question, even if there's really only one answer, and it's for personal reasons, too. )
The ones that occurred in September, with the soul switchING. That's the type of thing you expect to read about in manga or see in anime or a video GAME, so naturally it piqued my interEST.
,.
[ People who are just normal people, doing normal things... when their "normal" is soul switching and memory stealing and being a magician is the most mundane thing in comparison. ]
Did you want to learn that as well? Seeing what it's capable of.
no subject
Is this all conjecTURE?
( or is sensei actually open to teaching him. )
no subject
[ Not one who would willingly teach him, but maybe if he states his case. Studying how it works, how to reverse it, how to save a fractured soul or if it can even be saved. ]
no subject
And the talLIES?
no subject
[ ... ]
no subject
Please teach ME.
no subject
[ Mister equivalent exchange. What is it that he could possibly offer the counselor? It's like having to deal with Maya all over again. ]
no subject
...I've found it difficult to figure out what to offer people who've been here longer than ME. ( To put it plainly. ) Information isn't of interest to any of YOU, and I'm sure you understand more about this place than anyone else here short of Kazuki-san.
( Well. Even then, Kazuki's is kind of limited. Natsume looks off, slowly finishing his snack. What can he offer? )
...Are you the type of counselor interested in unethical practiCES?
no subject
Is there anybody who is not? [ It's interesting? Extremely so, the marvels of the human ability to do whatever they want, whatever it takes. ] Especially a quack doctor from a mental asylum.
no subject
Most people would say "No" to that quesTION. ( Because they have morals and ethics and the like. ) What's one thing you haven't been able to try that you'd like TO?
no subject
[ Those people are liars. Who has morals and ethics and the like? ]
Hmm...
[ ... ]
...ziplining.
no subject
I can manage THAT. Can I offer that up as a trade option for a lesson or two on memory unlockING, Sensei?
no subject
[ He'll still take the ziplining, though. Zipline first, then memories. ]
no subject
...I underSTAND. ( He isn't sure if he wants it or not, but maybe... ) It'll take some time to set up my part unfortunateLY, so I'll have to make good on it some other DAY.
( Sorry for the trouble or whatever.
...Mmm. )
Would you be able to tell me how to reseal those memories if I have the affinity for this type of thing TOO? Just in case someone regrets their deciSION.
no subject
[ Unspoken, the other answer is no. Regret, after all, is a powerful catalyst for growth, and who is he to stop it from festering? ]
no subject
Is that what you did to Seki-kun and Kudo-chan's memories of this SCHOOL?
no subject
Nope! That's all them. I would have a lot of work on my hands if I had to reorganize the memories of every student in this school, now wouldn't I?
[ Look at him, does he look like the pinnacle of hard work? ]
no subject
You'd only have to do it as they come BACK. As long as a student doesn't DIE, you don't have to reorganize anything for THEM... Though I won't disagree it sounds like a lot of WORK.
( Natsume's just saying, that's all. )
Is them remembering their real lives—the one before arriving HERE, like the rest of us did—also on THEM?
no subject
[ You could say that's the basis of counseling. To be empathetic, understanding, objective, and delve into a person's mind to retrieve what's long been buried. ]
It's easier on some than others. If I may ask, what do you to do clear the clutter from your mind? Mental clarity is the first step in remembering.
no subject
( Not one that springs to mind immediately, at least. Sure, he goes to talk to (at) someone, and sometimes that helps—but that's more of clearing up questions rather than settling down to clear something from his mind.
The closest thing might be experimentation, testing scents against one another or trying new spellwork and recipes in cooking... Things to keep his hands busy, his mind occupied until it's ready to pick at things again, yet that isn't really the answer, either. The second closest thing might just be focusing on his magic, calling it and building a galaxy slowly on the bunk above him... Hmm. )
What about YOU, Sensei?
