[ This is where they'd giver her the same spiel as they did Ishimaru with all that goes into commission costs, but unlike him, she doesn't look like she'd have the money anyways. ]

...How come nobody here has money? I thought everybody who lived in towns and cities and stuff would be super rich.

[miirai]

Mii... even I know a normal journal is cheaper than that. And I'm not from a town or a city, sir. I'm from a small village. I don't even get a big allowance.

[Which isn't a lie, as she sags her shoulders, sighing heavily.]

[adsum]

Oh...

[ npckun mirrors the sight. their money... ]

Do you have any rich friends who can foot the bill? Or if there's anything else you can offer? Something you're good at doing that I can use.

[miirai]

Mii. It'd be rude of me to ask them for money for a Christmas gift...

[She frowns, looking obviously embarrassed and red in the face. But then he asks if there's anything else that she could potentially offer, and:]

I know how to cook, clean, and sew, sir. I'm also very good at playing games, too.

[adsum]

[ npckun gives her a bit of a blank stare, the shameless not understanding why being rude should stop anybody— certainly never stopped them ]

What sort of games? Do you know how to play dots and boxes? Hopscotch? Marbles?

[miirai]

[If he's not going to ask, she's not going to answer the reason why, instead just smiling.]

Mii. I play all sorts of games... but mostly competitive ones. I don't know how to play that first one, but I can learn fast. The other two... I know how to play ohajiki, if that's what you mean by 'marbles'.

[adsum]

Ohajiki? How do you play?

[ Like marbles... they'll have to buy a bag of actual marbles, if the tumbled stones they have aren't round enough and probably they aren't. ]

[miirai]

Mm. It's a game that can be played with pebbles or go stones, or anything that is coin-shaped. You gather up all of the pieces on the floor and make a line between one piece to the other by pointing it out. If you can hit the other piece with your fingers, you get to keep it. If you don't, it just goes to the other player's turn.

You keep going until there's no more pieces. The one who has collected the most wins.

[adsum]

Oh! I've got lots of pebbles you can buy, and then we can play! You can show me how to do it first! I'm a quick learner!

[ please buy something though, please, they need the money ]

Why are you selling pebbles, sir.

[Just...completely blunt, here.]

[adsum]

Because people are stupid enough to buy them. Have you seen the gacha machine outside the door?

[ If something sells, who are they not to take advantage of that? ]

[miirai]

You know, saying that makes me want to buy anything even less...

[adsum]

That's alright! I sell go stones too! Only one person's ever bought them, but he's very smart.

[miirai]

...did this very smart person do the gacha.

[adsum]

Yes! Multiple times! He's purchased 300 rocks in the month of December alone!

[miirai]

Doesn't that mean he's actually stupid.

[adsum]

...Okay, yes, but he also knows the Poincaré conjecture, so he's both.

. . . Mii. I don't know what that is, but I'm not sure if knowing that really maens that you're smart.
