( sometimes you go to the roof to finish the final harvest of the season before snow comes and kills everything, and then your big brother roommate gets you to take a nap with him four stories up in the cold late-autumn-early-winter air instead. this is stupid. it's sweet, but it's stupid. because a few days later, nene is curled up beneath her blankets, holding a large hamster plushie like a lifeline and coughing hard.

nene got herself sick. perhaps it's the first time she looks up as the curtains of her bunk part, or maybe it's one of several, but she manages to with small wince, blinking away a few tears. it's fine, she's fine! but she looks expectantly at the visitor. she does need rest after all... )

[You thought I was coming here on Noah but JUST KIDDING it's LUCIFER! Anyway, he shows up with soup he made for Nene, and also Sheep MC is tucked under his free arm. Sheep MC soon after finds themself tucked against Nene, though, to provide comfort. And Largeness.]

I made you some soup. Do you have the energy to eat, perchance?

( nene lays there, staring in unmasked surprise before she manages to push herself up ever so slightly, nodding. eating... would be nice. and the sheep plush is just as soft and comforting as always. where's her phone... to talk... give her a moment, sorry, there are so many stuffed animals she's been buried in-- THERE IT IS, underneath the knit demon. give her a sec. )

( nene nods- he's correct on both accounts, and not for the first time wishes there was a tray or something they could grab. ... maybe they should... make one? man, she's learning a lot here in yogen. so... p. props to the school? she guesses? she takes a moment to adjust the pillows and stuffies beside her so that she can sit up properly, and holds out her hands once that's done. she will accept soup, yes. )

[Little hands are graced with Soup. There is a spoon as well because Lucifer is not a monster (debatably). He sits down near her on the edge of the bed, though, careful not to disturb anything but also he's in Dad Mode right now so he's not just going to fuck off about this.]

Have you been drinking water? It's been a long time since I've taken care of a sick person, so I'll admit, I didn't exactly remember to bring you any.

[Not that the water here is... good. But he would have boiled it three times at least, like he did with the water making the soup. It would be useful to have purification magic instead of hexes. Sadly the one hex Lucifer has relating to water is a hex of flooding, and therefore is completely impractical for soup.]

( nene remembers, vaguely, her own dad doing something similar once, patting her head and tucking her back in once everything was good and done. she remembers hot milk with honey and cinnamon, and warmth. ... the last one is a bit harder to achieve in a room where the ceiling is glass, of course, but given how loaded she is in blankets, the curtains helping block off cold air and the many stuffed animals, it's probably fine actually.

the soup is delicious and nene doesn't even consider where the broth's watery base was made from until lucifer says something, and nene makes a face instinctively at the question- a clear contrast from the easy bliss of Good Soup. no, no she has not had water today. )

I boiled the water several times over. Unfortunately, we have to work with what we have to work with...

[There's a beat, and Lucifer considers that maybe something like canned tea would be better for her.]

If you tell me what sorts of teas you prefer from the vending machine, I can get you that. It will at least have water in it. [Really can't risk too much here.]

( oh-- hrm. tea does sound really good... but the water in the vending machines isn't treated, either. what a conundrum. also her hands are unfortunately full, which really is... maybe if she's careful she can set it on her lap. keeping as still as possible, she tries that and goes for her phone again. )

11/19 Soup Day

[There's a little knock on the door before Yukio is peaking his head inside the room. He's carrying a tray of hot soup, some crackers, and a bottle of water to keep her hydrated. There's also a little paper crane origami next to the bowl.

He would have come yesterday, but between getting caught up with paperwork and nerves that he had chickened out. But now he's here.]

Nene? I hope I'm not bothering you, but I brought you some food.

( oh... oh no the crane? is so cute? she's gonna cry.... okay not really but she's really emotional right now honestly. sitting up properly, nene smiles a bit before- ah, yep, there's more coughing. ... is it just her or has her constitution tanked since her curse? anyways. phone... )

[He smiles softly before sitting on the edge of her bed, setting the tray between them. The soup was warm still, and smelled deliciously of egg drop.

As to how he knew this would be the soup of choice, call it the mom instinct.]

( is that- nene looks up at yukio with awe mixed with even more emotional watery eyes. how did he know?! did he overhear her talking to subaru about soups at the movie night?! wehhh... yukio-kuuuuun........ nene politely holds out her hands, dropping the phone at her side. egg please! )

[If he had any doubts about coming here it was immediately gone upon seeing Nene's reaction. He couldn't help but laugh as he nodded his head.]

Alright, sit back. It's a bit hot.

[He shifts a bit to make some space between them, then sets the tray down on her lap so she could enjoy the soup, along with everything else.]

( nene settles back again, delighted as she picks up the spoon and immediately takes a sip. ... sooooo good! one hand to her cheek, nene beams. you did good, yukio! )

[He can't help but smile at the way Nene just beams with delight. He's glad he chose right, and he's even more glad that he brought it to her. He had been on the verge of not doing it simply out of nerves.

Regardless, he was glad to see her smile. It had been too long, he thinks.

He doesn't want to bother her while she eats, so instead he pulls out a folded piece of paper from his jacket pocket and quietly started making another paper crane.]

( quietly, nene eats. as much as she'd like to converse, there's simply not much to talk about- or at least, nothing she can focus on long enough to talk about, least of all while she's preoccupied. but there's something comforting about your favorite soup, and having someone you care about sit close by while you're not feeling well. so despite everything, she's content. at one point however, she does glance curiously at the origami. whatcha doin, yukio-kun? )

Maybe he should really stop taking naps outside when the weather was changing. It did make him miss Alfred’s cooking— warm soup and homemade bread could cure any cold. Unfortunately— or rather, fortunately, all things considered— Alfred wasn’t here and there would be no soup and bread for him to get better with.

But that didn’t mean Nene gets to suffer.

( nene glances up- ohmygod that thing is so fat and its got shiny antenna thingies, what the heck. that's amazing. she loves it already. she nods, and jason's going to have to assume the silence is a yes. curled up in her blankets and laying on her side, she watches with big eyes... what he doin... )

[He was indeed going to take the silence as a yes. He walked in, making his way to her bed and sitting on the edge. He squished the plushie and held it out to her.]

I'm sorry for gettin' you sick, Princess.

[His nose was red, probably due to constantly having to blow his nose and rubbing at it.]

( a lil sniff- you should be. but any ire immediately dissolves because she can't keep it up, even as a joke. she's just a lil too tired, and there's a plushie to hold. god, how is there any space for her? miracles.

playing idly with the antenna of the plushie, she sits there for a moment before shrugging a little. she should have known better, after all. she had her reservations and everything. )

[Oh thank god she’s not mad because he wouldn’t actually know what to do if she was. He wouldn’t survive the nene angry stares. He could go toe to toe against gods and Batman alike, but if Nene pouted in his general direction he’d probably just drop dead again.

He ruffled her hair a little, then simply flopped back onto her mattress and closed his eyes.]

( nene pauses for a moment, before sitting up just enough to show that... aside from black canyon, the larger plushies line either the headboard or the foot of the bed, while the smaller ones are dutifully leaning against the wall like padding. a few special ones get to stay beside her, and then there's space for noah and nene, because they sleep practically melted into each other, holding on like the other's a lifeline. it can get pretty warm, but... ehhhh.

and then she looks up at him. thats how. once the little demonstration is over, she snuggles up into jason however- granted, he's much bigger than her and noah both, so of course he's gonna have some problems here. )

[Jason couldn't help but laugh.]

Yeah, okay. That's fair.

[He moved a bit to extend his arm and allow her to use it as a pillow or use his chest or one of the plushies if she wanted to. He would accommodate.]

Obviously, the answer to that is to get more until the whole bed is full.
