it's nothing she can bring up in company, even if it was as easy as the other thing, so she'll keep mum on asking him how he could've forgotten something like family for now -- when he'd been so insistent about it before, too. instead, kaede only gives him a slightly concerned look before she moves off that investigation-worthy trail, teasing.]
I can see why you're so set on talking me up, Amami-kun, it's pretty fun to embarrass others with what they're good at. Even if it's for something as simple as a hobby.
[she clearly doesn't mind it, though! but she does think it's funny that he humbles the same way she does each time, so she can't help but poke a little fun.
anyway,]
Do you have any family, Meng Yao-kun? I'm an only child myself, so I'm always interested in hearing about other people's lives when they differ from my own. Each experience I feel or hear about influences the music I play.
[ ...Meng Yao, on the other hand, is looking a little concerned. He opens his mouth, and then Kaede goes on, so he closes it, thinking instead for a moment. He doesn't think they've spoken a lot about family, to be quite honest.
But, it's easy to recall him mentioning that he has a big family in particular. Still, he believes every little thing needs to be scrutinized, with the way this school can eat at them. At their functions, and at their memories. ]
I really do appreciate that you will. Though, please let me know if there's anything you would like in return. It would be unfair for me to ask too much of you, and not even dare offer up anything. Even if it is something like lending an ear.
[ And his gaze softens a little, even if Rantarou isn't looking at him. He's doing his best to be there for him without trying to make him uncomfortable, but he's not sure if he manages it well.
Still, he gives Kaede a little smile when she asks, and it even seems genuine. However, this is a very practiced one. ]
I have family, one of those being a brother, so I can't say I'm an only child. And I consider myself fortunate enough to be considered related to each and every single member. Yet, I can't say I know them all very well, having lived my life not having met most of them. But, I do hope that will change.
( "i've always wanted to be part of a big family," amami doesn't say, because he recognizes that bringing the conversation back around to him would completely defeat the point of kaede bailing him out a moment ago. still, the expression he offers back to meng yao feels apologetic enough, and even if something grateful might be more fitting considering the offer, it's the guilt that really settles in the pit of amami's stomach. something else, he supposes, to add to the laundry list of reasons he's maybe not the best at this kind of thing.
not that thoughts like that are enough to convince him to be upfront either. sorry, a-yao, but you're the man of the hour. )
Speaking of where A-Yao comes from, you know, Akehoshi-kun and I actually got to take a trip there before.
( a really nice trip, no less! the dying at the end part was hardly a drawback as far as amami was concerned. )
I'm sure you'd have loved to see it, Akamatsu-san. It's really beautiful. Pretty exciting too, and he taught us a lot.
