[ funny how figaro has found himself in a school after wrapping up a recent mission that involved a school... but this one looks a little more different from what he's used to. they only had schoolhouses in the south where rutile worked as a teacher and not sprawling buildings like this one, and not to mention the unfamiliar technology that range from vending machines to dated cellphones, to boot.

so now here he is - a rather tall man who looks too old to be wearing a school uniform (but still looks very good in it nonetheless) standing in front of a vending machine, stroking his chin as he surmises its contents. ]

There should be a way to get some food out of there, is it? [ mostly talking to himself, but if there's someone who happens to be around while he's being a boomer over here that'd be great ] I'm not too used to technology, I'm afraid. I don't even have any mana stones on me to activate it.

ii.

[ well that sure is a dead body in a case. figaro isn't even rattled at the sight of it, having seen so many himself. he does peer closer to get a better look at it... ]

Has anyone tried taking her out of the case yet? [ he lifts a hand as if to summon something in his palm, but no dice. ugh. ] Wonder how they kept her in such pristine condition. She should be rotting by now, if she were human.

[ then again, judging from the student body and faculty that act like he's been here for a while, who go in and out of the school like ghosts... well. this isn't the first time in a haunted school, at any rate. ]

iii.

[ a doctor like him would naturally gravitate towards the clinic, and after making a couple subtle winks with the resident school nurse (why), he heads over to the cot and presumably finding someone there - a fellow transfer, perhaps? ]

Oh? Are you taking a nap here as well?

[ figaro you're supposed to feign illness... but with his smile he should be in on the secret. he'd like some rest too, ok ]

( in all actuality, nene is there for genuine reasons- stress-induced illness is a lot when you're a 15 year old girl who never had to worry about murder on this level. but when an adult just suddenly comes in and blithely accuses her of simply sneaking in a nap, she's... completely baffled. sitting up reluctantly- and with minimal sway, thank goodness, nene just... looks up at him, confused. )

[ oh dear, his mistake. he lets out short awkward laugh as he scratches the back of his head. ]

Ah, I apologize. It's just that I'm rather new here - a transfer student, as you say. Did I disturb you?

( well. he did, actually. her stomach and head have been hurting for a while now, and she was just... exhausted. but she doesn't want to be too rude. ... but he did ask. after a moment of clear internal struggle, nene reluctantly nods. )

It's. It's okay. You thought something else was happening.

( she's sure the nurse will have her leave soon too, if only to ensure she doesn't miss all of her classes. )

I'm a transfer too.

[ he does think something else was happening - it's hard to ignore the corpse in the case - but this is precisely why he was snooping around in his own way.

he gives nene a sympathetic smile. ]

It was on me, anyway. It's just that I haven't been to a school like this before, so I guess you could say I'm still trying to find my footing here. Should I give you some space, then?

( maybe they're in luck, because something calls the nurse away- another staffmember is at the door asking for her. it's easier to talk without having to mind what you say. )

It's okay. Um- did you only just... ( she makes a bit of a face- ) wake up?

( if he did, that awful feeling of two sets of memories trying to work into proper places was likely what drove him here. with the urge to help driving her, she pushes her own problems down- it seems they both needed help. was there someone else in another cot? )

I-- yes, when you put it that way. I was looking around to get information about my whereabouts and I found myself in the clinic. Because I am a doctor back in my world.

[ at least there's that. ]

Oh!! ( that feels so lucky? doctors are really smart! they've been a huge disaster since everything started. like... someone stole a corpse. ) Mr. Campbell sometimes volunteers to help out here- ( for sneaky gains. ) -so maybe he could tell you some stuff? I've been getting some occasional first aid lessons too...

Is Mr. Campbell a fellow doctor as well? We'll need all the help we can get if we're going to stay here a well. I did say it's nice to meet you, but it'd be nicer if we've met in better circumstances...

( huh. she doesn't really ask about the adults, does she? now she feels rude. ~~just one more thing to stress about.~~ she tries to give a smile to the best of her ability. )

I'd have liked it under better circumstances too. B-But we make the best of what we're given, right?

Mm, that's the spirit. Even the tiniest of mettle can make a big difference. Humans are special that way.

Oh Not at all! I am a wizard. Although without my powers, I could easily blend in as a human, wouldn't you say?

Is that so? That's a relief, in that case, but I'd rather have all my powers from the get-go so that I can show kids like you all the neat tricks I know.

But at the very least, you can brag to your other friends about me if you like. "Oh, I met this cool and dashing wizard in the flesh," or something along those lines. I'm sure they'd be real impressed with you.

Ah- yeah, I get that. I think I'd be able to help more if I could still see spirits... ( they're all trapped, and all she wants is to help where she can. but also that's kind of part of why she's here in the nurse's office to begin with?

as he speaks, nene just blinks for a moment before giggling. even if he definitely didn't mean it like that, it's certainly helping keep her mind off things! and right when her mind was wandering back to her stressors again. what excellent timing. )

True, it might be hard to believe it at first. But believe me when I say that I am a real wizard, Nene. Let's see... Once I can get ahold of them once more, I could show you mini fireworks with my own hands? I could easily do that.

( and of course she takes what he says at face value- though she doesn't realize the full implications of it, she is hanako's priestess in a way, and the things she's seen in the past few months, stories she's heard from others... if she didn't, wouldn't she be such a hypocrite? but perhaps far more importantly, she's an innocent girl who wants to believe in magic and good, kind things, even in this rotten school. )
