JANUARY EVENT LOG

00:00 01/01

✽ At the stoke of midnight, something shatters on the ground floor in front of the bulletin board, and the entire school goes dark: all electricity gets shut off, all flames are snuffed out, and the sky is heavily overcast to hide the moon and the stars. The only source of light are the suncatchers purchased from the student store, but even those fully charged will start to dim and go out over the next three days.
Nene, Hinata, Noah, Amami, and Komaeda will smell something burning, and if they pull out their PDAs, it is hot to the touch and the casing is cracked, like something had blown from the inside, and their PDAs will not be working. For everybody else, the screen flickers when they press their thumb to their PDAs, and then goes dark again. ...
✽ If anybody was inside the main school building at midnight, I am so sorry, and for everybody else who enters the building afterwards, please watch your step. The appearance and atmosphere of the school has changed to that of the "void school" and can not be reverted upon breaking a mirror. Please refer to the aforementioned link for details about the school.
✽ As of midnight, no npcs can be found inside the school, including the library ghost, the gardener, and the cats. If a character were near an npc at midnight, it would appear as if they'd disappeared into the shadows the moment the world went dark.

??? whenever you guys solve the void

✽ 01/10 marks the beginning of the final semester, and when npc students and faculty will return to school. Of the ~260 npc students enrolled at the start of December, only ~40 npc students return to school, with the other three quarters having their names crossed off the class roster in the locker area. In light of the rapidly shrinking student body, homerooms will be consolidated by year, creating a single class for each of the first, second, and third years.
✽ The countdown in front of the bulletin board has reached zero, and the glass tube appears to have shattered and bled out onto the floor, to nobody's surprise. The mess will be cleaned up by the end of the week, and in its place is a notice for the school trip taking place next month. Please see the toplevel below for more details.
✽ The science lab is now open. Add will probably elbow people out of the way getting here, but he gets dibs on the anatomical model: it is warm to the touch, and rather than being made of plastic, the skin, muscle, bones, other organs feel very much real. He thinks they might be. The rest of the room is set up like a typical research lab, with all the basic chemicals and equipment: a refrigerator, liquid nitrogen storage tank, sonicator, incubator, autoclave, laminar flow cabinet, mass spectrometer, and a high performance liquid chromatography system.
✽ It snows on and off and the sky remains overcast with no sign of the sun all month.

OOC

✽ Please give the temporary locations page a thorough read! The most noticeable changes aside from the usual void school appearance is the scattered void, lack of electricity in both the school and the dorm, and the ability to walk off campus. The setting will remain as is until the characters figure out how to revert the change, or on 01/10, whichever comes first.
✽ PDAs will be inoperable until fixed. Tech-savvy characters may realize that the PDAs are powered through inductive charging, and the first step to getting them (also electrical appliances and hot water) to work again is to locate the generator.
✽ All npcs will be ICly unavailable until we unvoid the school.

Hm - if I said that 'everything' is alright, that'd be a lie, wouldn't it?

[And while Inaba may not be the most honest of people at times due to her own personal agenda, that doesn't mean that she can't make a comment like that. It's a bit dry, however, and full of dripping sarcasm.]

But I suppose you really wanted to know about me, so I suppose things could be worse. But they could also be better, too. Probably should turn that question on you, though.

moraloutrage: (slight sweat)

[personal profile] moraloutrage 2022-01-08 05:57 pm (UTC)(link)
I see! [That was - an answer? He thinks? Ishimaru nods along.]

As for myself, I agree heartily with you that not everything is alright! I also second that things can be both better and worse. This is quite the distressing situation, but it is far too early to give up on hope. If we keep on exploring and working hard, I am sure that we can find our way back to the real Yogen!
dereban: ([m] 74)

[personal profile] dereban 2022-01-08 07:13 pm (UTC)(link)
"The real Yogen", huh...

[She quotes that halfheartedly, resting her hands on her waist as she finds herself sighing, glancing up at the ceiling for a moment before speaking up in a tone that's contemplative.]

I wonder if that's the case, though.
moraloutrage: (much thought)

[personal profile] moraloutrage 2022-01-08 07:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah... Yes, the one that we have been made to live in.

[He faces her with a thoughtful frown, as he ponders the meaning of her words.]

Inaba-kun, what do you feel "the real Yogen" is?
dereban: ([m] 94)

[personal profile] dereban 2022-01-09 08:58 am (UTC)(link)
Hm. I honestly couldn't tell you. Because 'the real Yogen' could be either one -- could be both, or could be neither of them. For example... how can we be so sure that the school we've been in isn't a replica to begin with, or some sort of simulation?
moraloutrage: (pondering)

[personal profile] moraloutrage 2022-01-09 12:37 pm (UTC)(link)
I... I suppose that your points do have merit. There is nothing definitive to prove which of these schools is the 'real' one. Such an issue could prove to be quite the hearty debate! Now a simulation sounds far too farfetched to me... Perhaps there is some kind of magic at play!
dereban: (pic#14190019)

[personal profile] dereban 2022-01-11 12:44 pm (UTC)(link)
How the hell is a simulation farfetched but magic isn't?
moraloutrage: (salutations)

[personal profile] moraloutrage 2022-01-11 09:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Well... ah... it sounds unusual when it is phrased like that! But based on our experiences here in this school, magic seems very real. And the level of technology seems limited... Without any evidence of advanced technology at play, magic seems more plausible in these circumstances!
dereban: ([m] 85)

[personal profile] dereban 2022-01-11 11:43 pm (UTC)(link)
But a simulation would mean that the technology wouldn't be in this world to begin with. That's how virtual reality works. Well, not that I can prove that it exists. Although I can't disprove it, either.
moraloutrage: (much thought)

[personal profile] moraloutrage 2022-01-12 02:08 am (UTC)(link)
[He taps at his chin uncertainly.]

I... I see. I do not have a strong familiarity with this type of technology, but your logic seems sound. A situation like that certainly could not be definitively proven or disproven if that were the case. Unless... er... someone could 'hack' the system from within?
dereban: (pic#14190035)

[personal profile] dereban 2022-01-12 09:46 am (UTC)(link)
It's what you'd call a "devil's proof". Anyway, someone probably could hack the system from within if they were familiar with the coding and could somehow access it. But that would require finding it, if it exists.
moraloutrage: (I got this)

[personal profile] moraloutrage 2022-01-12 11:33 am (UTC)(link)
Ah, interesting. I am not sure how one would find such coding, but should I come across such a thing, I will be sure to share it! [If only Chihiro were here to be an authority on the matter!]

In any case, it seems we have much to search for.
dereban: <lj user=berriah> ([m] 7)

[personal profile] dereban 2022-01-12 11:37 am (UTC)(link)
If you do, I'd appreciate it. I'd definitely want to give it a look...

[Inaba Himeko: huge interest in any sort of technology.]

But it's not a priority to look for, anyway. There's much more important things to look for first. Like a way out, for example.
moraloutrage: (at attention)

[personal profile] moraloutrage 2022-01-12 12:06 pm (UTC)(link)
[He nods along.]

Indeed. That should be the first priority! Of course, I'm not sure how to find either right now. So I suppose that I will keep checking each area until I come across one or the other! In these circumstances, any discovery could prove to be quite fruitful.
dereban: ([m] 94)

[personal profile] dereban 2022-01-12 12:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, checking each place is probably for the best--and, besides, while searching for a way out, you might just find some other useful things.
moraloutrage: (in summary)

[personal profile] moraloutrage 2022-01-12 12:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Precisely! You never know what will turn up. And while we are stuck here, the more useful items we can find, the better! Now it's just a matter of deciding where to check next!
dereban: ([m] 30)

[personal profile] dereban 2022-01-12 12:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Where have you already checked? Might as well not retread on places you've already been to.
moraloutrage: (pondering)

[personal profile] moraloutrage 2022-01-12 06:34 pm (UTC)(link)
I believe I have looked at most of the first two floors already. I do want to take a more thorough look through the library at some point, but for now, it may be best to proceed onwards and upwards!
dereban: <lj user=berriah> (pic#14190321)

[personal profile] dereban 2022-01-14 04:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Upwards it is, then. Do you mind if I join you? It's probably for the best if you don't check things out alone, anyway.
moraloutrage: (hip with the kids)

[personal profile] moraloutrage 2022-01-14 05:04 pm (UTC)(link)
[He welcomes her offer with a friendly smile.]

I do not mind in the slightest. Please, feel free to join me! After all, effectiveness and safety increase with numbers!
dereban: ([m] 8)

[personal profile] dereban 2022-01-16 05:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Exactly. And we can watch each other's backs.

[Not that she trusts anyone to watch her back, but hey, the reverse may not be the same.]

Was there anything particular found in the areas you already checked...?
moraloutrage: (I got this)

[personal profile] moraloutrage 2022-01-16 07:00 pm (UTC)(link)
That is quite correct. There is safety in numbers, after all!

[He innocently agrees with her and pauses thoughtfully.]

Hm, I am not sure if there was much of note that is already known. Some rooms consumed by the void, others strangely barren... The nurse's office looked like it had been raided by someone, unfortunately. On the plus side, the janitor's closet appeared to be freshly stocked, which will be quite useful for keeping our spaces tidy!
dereban: <lj user=berriah> (pic#14190325)

[personal profile] dereban 2022-01-17 11:30 am (UTC)(link)
The nurse's office had been ransacked...?

[That's certainly a thought. There's a lot that she still doesn't know, a gap from her knowledge as someone who hasn't been into the void school until now.]

Was it just like - a mess? Or was there anything specific taken out? But the janitor's closet, huh. I guess there might be some useful things in there.
moraloutrage: (at attention)

[personal profile] moraloutrage 2022-01-17 02:27 pm (UTC)(link)
It was beyond a simple mess. There were empty bottles and broken glass, if someone had taken items. There were still some medical supplies, but they all appeared to have been expired. By several decades, in fact!

[He shakes his head. That won't be good if there's an emergency while they're stuck here.]

Yes, the janitor's closet seems much more useful for the time being. We might not be able to help with injuries, but we can keep things clean!
dereban: ([m] 74)

[personal profile] dereban 2022-01-17 02:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Hmm... I wonder what exactly they were looking for if they were doing it like that...

[There's a thoughtful hum as she places a hand under her chin.]

Maybe once we get out of here, I'll see if asking about it. Well, cleanliness isn't too much of an important thing, but it can probably used for other things, too. But anyway--onwards and upwards!
