The body is completely still. There is no rise and fall of the chest, or anything else that might indicate that she is still breathing. The dripping blood seems to be coming to a stop.

Okay thank god on that one.

After a furious internal debate on if he should leave the body where it is for someone who knows bodies and also can get her off the ceiling without dying themselves, he's going to extremely reluctantly take another photo of her as she is before standing on the desk and gingerly trying to pull one of her hands free, wincing at the blood.

What kind of nails are we talking about here?

They're galavanized framing nails, though that won't be obvious from looking at them. They're stuck in pretty well, so he'll have to yank her hand through the nail itself in order to get her hand off.

Yeah he's... not doing that... he'll check the fingernails of the hand for blood underneath, because he knows that much from detective games and also his own almost-death not too long ago, before letting go and taking a step back and thinking.

Clearly he needs a hammer or something. Actually speaking of, the person who did this would also need something like that, right? Unless they were freakishly pushing them in with a finger or something, anything goes in this weird school.

He's going to hop down and check the surroundings for a hammer or nailgun or signs thereof. It's also occuring to him it's weird he's not being sent to the voidschool with every drop of blood.

There is no blood on or under the fingernails. There are no odd marks on her neck that indicate she was scratching at it either. However, Shin might notice that there are bumps on her skin.

It will take a little bit of looking, but Shin will find a bloody hammer tucked between two filing cabinets. There is rust on the cabinets themselves. There are stands of blond hair in the vicinity.

Retroactively, what kind of bumps are we talking? Like mosquito bites, blisters, how many of them? Are they just on the hand? While I'm rewinding back in time, how many tallies did she have?

He's got some time, they get a whole three hours and all, luxury... Aha, he knew it... also does no one ever use these filing cabinets? Resigning himself to his role as crime scene photographer he's going to take pics of these as well, before taking a couple of the blond strands, contemplating them between finger and thumb.

Hair... he does actually know you can distinguish fibres with fire; one of the many odd pieces of trivia Midori always seemed to know that definitely now sours in hindsight. But it is useful, so he's going to run a strand of both the orange and blond hairs under blue lighter flame and see what happens.

There are blisters on her skin, and they're all over her body. Shin will notice them anywhere there is exposed skin. She has three tallies in total.

The cabinets are currently inaccessible, but that doesn't necessarily mean that they aren't used. Regardless of whether or not they are, they seem to have started to rust over and erode.

Midori would be proud of Shin, knowing that he taught him well, and also laughing at him and telling him to find the truth for himself while knowing the answer like two minutes in like the freak that he is. Unfortunately, he's not here to be useful (or useless,) and Shin will find that the hair burns normally and presumably smells terrible upon doing so.

Inch resting, what's their size and shape like, as far as the exposed skin goes? Do they form a particular pattern, are they rounded or more splotch-like? That is, do they look like they were caused by abrasion, burns, or illness? Not that Shin is a doctor, exactly, but like the camera lens he's been using he can make observations.

God he's insufferable why did Shin put up with him (we all know why) it's almost like he's here in the room. Shin's going to ignore the phantom laughter and after crinkling his nose at the acrid smell (yeah that's... burnt hair alright), put the lighter and half-burnt hairs back in his pocket.

'Currently inaccessible' is ominous as hell, he can rattle them a bit trying to open one, and kick a rusted part a lil and regret it because ow his foot bad idea, he's doing the brief jumping up and down on the spot holding it thing, eyes watering.

It's inconsistent, but there are splotches of skin that range from red and irritated to blistered and peeling skin. It's not unlike the look one might have after a scalding hot shower, with the boiling water only touching parts of the skin, except no part of her is damp.

As an aside, whatever is in the cabinets isn't relevant to the investigation; they're noted as currently inaccessible on the locations page.

It's good to be thorough! Going back in time to finding the hammer, how bloody are we talking, like is it on the head, or the handle as well? Actually does it have one of those nail pryer ends or is it double-sided?

Also huh, okay, weird. Clearly a lot happened in these six hours.

After recovering from that, Shin's going to test something that's been percolating at the back of his mind, taking out his bandage-wrapped knife and a thin sliver of mirror that he uses for void trips. He hasn't been doing it as much lately (not at all since coming back this month), but it's still a practiced move of pricking the side of his finger and holding the bead of blood upright while he puts the knife back. He nervously takes the shard in both hands ready to snap it, and that rotation lets the bead fall.

The hammer is the type with a claw on the head. The head is bloody, with the face and neck being caked with dried blood. The handle has a small amount of splatter on it, but the bulk seems to be on the head and around the top where it attaches to the handle.

Once the blood hits the ground the floor will disappear, and Shin will find that there's nothing but pool of black beneath him.

It is the void-void! The student council room has been eaten by it. He will snap the mirror and find himself back in the Student Council Room.

Okay phew, he is back. Just going to stand here and deal with his body freaking out over freaking out suddenly from it's perspective and that just happening from his own and then shakily put the mirror back and wipe his finger on his jacket until it stops bleeding that much. So it's just Maya's blood not doing that. Maybe student council is built different, who knows, or it's just anyone murdered during that time. Mysteries.

He looks at the hammer and back at... the corpse but... wouldn't that have fingerprints on it? Maybe he should leave it (despite that they don't exactly have a fingerprint database in Yogen). Instead he's going to get back on the desk and tentatively search her pockets, since he doesn't have Crona to pre-search them this time. Maybe there's some kind of hint about what the meeting was about?

Shin will find her house keys, her PDA, and Maya's student council room key in her pockets. There might be a couple other little odds and ends, but nothing else of note.

He and Sara are now neck and neck on house keys. He does look at her PDA and it's siren call of pretending to be Maya so that Hiro gets some closure but... well he can at least see what's happened while he's been investigating.

...okay it's clear that Hiro has worked it out and 'this is necessary' doesn't bode well. Best not to touch it... Shin doesn't trust himself after this disaster and Natsume's sharp retort way back and... he does know now, the kind of anger you get at a sibling's death. He can't think of anything he'd say to himself that'd help right now, especially knowing she's dead. He's just... going to turn off the PDA and pocket everything, forgetting that the ping is going to come up as 'read' possibly, I can't remember if the network does that or not.

I know it says 'currently inaccessible' but hope springs eternal when you can't see the location page so he'd try to use the student council room key on the filing cabinets if they have a lock anyway.

After that doesn't work, he's going to look at the floor for signs she was dragged here, because he doesn't think she'd have just held still for this if she was awake... and also, looking at the table he's moved to get to her, if there's marks of the others having been moved for the same but more evil reason; especially if there's blood on top of any from this process. The person had to have gotten some on them, so is there any of that on the floor that's not just from the dripping, as well?

The filing cabinets use a different lock than the room, so Shin will unfortunately find that the key does not fit.

There is no other blood in the room, nor signs of dragging. The rest of the room seems relatively clean, or at least blood-free. The top of the table is clean aside from any dirt that Shin brought with him, and any blood that splattered on it while he was messing with the body. When looking for signs of the table being moved, is he checking for anything in particular?

It was worth a shot, he'll clip it and the house keys onto his eye keychain and pocket it. I'm going to ask for details on what the lock looks like because I'm Like That I'm sorry. It's once more laundry day for Shin this poor jacket's seen way more blood than it was ever supposed to. It's haunted.

He's looking for mostly scrape marks across the floor, those dimples in the floor that form over time that would show where a table usually goes but currently doesn't have one occupying them, and disturbed dust, although if the room is pretty clean there's probably not that much chance of that one.

After that he's going to check the trashcans because there was something in them last time. No he's not procrastinating going back outside what are you talking about.

The filing cabinets just have standard locks, so it'd be something like this. Poor Shin's jacket, we need to get him a new one and just give it a proper burial at this point.

There's not a lot of dust in the room. The body aside, the room itself is quite clean. It seems to have been tidied up recently; however, if he's paying attention, at this point he might notice that the metal on the legs is showing signs of corrosion. The table does have a proper place to be put back to. The remaining furniture seems to be more or less where it belongs.

There is only the usual trash to be found in these particular trashcans. I'm assuming there's crumbled up papers, wrappers, probably some paper towels or tissues or something, that kind of thing - nothing useful.

Is there anything else that he wants to check?

We really do... Shin's character development measured in how much of his original outfit is getting replaced over time. Unrecognizable lad. :' ) Who's making a mental note of the key type.

That's a lot of rust... does the student council just not have a budget or something? Is the rust in particular areas or just kind of scattered randomly over the filing cabinets and table legs? Is it noteable anywhere else?

Tidied up recently... is it recently enough there's still a smell of chemicals or suchlike? Do those paper towels smell of such?

Shin's realizing he's starting to reach the end of what he can do by himself even with reason to dither around looking for things so reluctance eroded, he last heads over to the tannoy, sits down and presses the boardcast button.

Listen, he's always wanted to do this, morbid circumstances aside.

Hilariously, Natsume's also wanted to do that, but there was never the time and now is not really the time...

Anyway, after bypassing the staredown and telling Hiro not to stab Miyuki (yet), Natsume... is here. He brought a hammer. He heard his friend was nailed to the ceiling, so he took longer to get here because he wanted to get a hammer. Somehow, still seeing her up there doesn't really register, and maybe he looks for longer than he needs to, and maybe he's a little slower than he should be going over, but, well.

Does Shin want to pry the nails out or, because if he does Natsume can chuck I mean throw I mean give him the hammer, if not it's okay. Natsume can do it. Nothing like decrucifying your crush at 6:50 in the morning.

Shin was kind of hoping Natsume would do it, completely oblivious to the whole that's the guy's crush up there thing (as well as any potential stabbing going on outside), but it's clear that Natsume's being affected somewhat from the staring and slowness... he'll pry with methodical inches if Natsume's ready to hold Maya's weight so she doesn't thwack down onto both the table and Shin at mach speed.

Speaking of mach speed pwease no throw hammer he'd likely as not miss the catch and get bonked.

You can't say that and then not expect me to take the throwing option, what the fuck. Natsume's being nice because even if he's frustrated, Shin is at least doing more than some people who might be getting stabbed in about thirty seconds here, so he'll just toss it to him. Just don't fumble it and drop it like a loser, okay.

I'm wheezing I rolled to see what would happen and he got a nat 20. He catches it flawlessly, in a shining beacon of an example to nerds everywhere and also somewhat to his own surprise that he artfully pretends isn't there as he moves to help. It really is the better option, he's happy to not have the honor of getting crushed by a dead body... it's perfect teamwork!

There doesn't seem to be a distinct pattern to the corrosion on either surface. As far as other surfaces go, is he looking at anything in the room in particular? There's a few different things in the room, so what he would find depends on what he's focusing on. As far as what he's already observed, the hammer does not have any signs of corrosion

If he pulls out the paper towels and sniffs them he might notice the smell of normal cleaning products, but there's not a ton of them and it's not a strong scent, so it's unlikely that he'd notice otherwise. Elsewhere in the room, if he's paying attention he might notice the faint, lingering scent of chlorine in the air.

Good thing that Shin caught it so that I don't have to update this post from three bodies to find to four. The nails are dug into the skin pretty nicely, but Shin will be able to extract them as long as he's careful. In the process of that, he can appreciate the good job that was done here. The nails are spread out uniformly and neatly. As he's pulling them out, he might find himself noting that they're perfectly straight, without any real angling or bending or anything in that vein.

The body will come down normally, one joint and limb at a time as the nails are methodically removed.
