☆ somedays you wanna die like a star and somedays-- ☆
Who: Everyone
What: Murder discuss
When: April 12th, lunch time
Where: School Library
Warnings: usual murder stuff
[Anyway. so. subaru knows dito did it, he said so on the network, but they have some important things on their hands-- mainly like... the fact that komaeda is Not waking up? and the last time someone was coma'd that music girl did a meeting and steph woke up so like? yeah maybe this'll work.
anyway it's on lunch because that's the easiest time that subaru can set something up, but it's in the morning after he's a li'l more recovered from investigation and highness there's a network mention--]
yo my detective peeps come to the library ur needed to solve a crime!!! (jk lmao but for real come okay)
[and then subaru conks out really for a lot of class until the time itself, wishing he had a little of that wake up pink void shit that was in komaeda's mouth..........
nonetheless. library is... suspiciously cleared out save the librarian, but subaru's got signs pointing to the back and he's sitting on a table himself, one leg pulled up to rest his cheek on it as he waves to seats. there's a lot of chairs here. he took them from tables.]
Everyone here that's gonna be here? Cool. Anyway, Addy's dead but for like real instead of bein' timeline dead I guess and Maddy's, uh... Sleeping Beauty right now, if you catch my drift. Nothin' seems to wake him, and don't try the whole kissing thing 'cause you'll die too. Don't ask me how I know.
[it's between them, two other people, the blind girl, and god now.]
I know that asshole Didi spilled the beans about his being armed and dangerous on the forums and all, but how about we nut up for once and do something? We know who did it, so let's just work ourselves out and then kick his ass.
[...
because no matter who he is right now, komaeda's been a valuable friend to him, and he's beyond seething.]

well, him showing up in itself and throwing a friend's body part probably counts as provocation, but it was for a good reason. he also would've totally killed subaru if he could, so there's that, too. he's better behaved right now though, although not of his own volition — the definition of being "behaved" also being "not actively attempting to mutilate someone". he's pulled out a chair in the library and inelegantly slouched into it, crossing his arms and crooking his head to the side as he kind of looks wildly between everyone.
he's obviously not mute though, as helena will have heard him making sharp retorts here and there in the middle of this meeting. he lets you guys have his arm and this is how you treat him... it's fine, he guesses. it's not like he's doing any goodwill here, considering he's the one being accused.
it's when helena approaches him that his expression changes — he freezes and blinks for a second, looking caught off-guard. especially since she'd been the one to do...that thing again. he wrinkles his nose his eyebrows knit together again before he shrugs with a scoff. ]
You know, it's not really polite to ask me questions right after rattling my brain around like a patsy.
no subject
[because if she hadn't targeted them both, they would have kept fighting, and he had still needed to be pushed back more after it. she didn't want Subaru dead, of course, but neither does she want Dito dead - more bloodshed isn't the answer here. her posture is as unruffled as someone can be after trying to absorb the absurdity of time travel and using it to conduct detective work.]
My question still stands. Why were you there in the first place?
no subject
not that he's hard to annoy.
he's quiet for a second, like he's genuinely thinking about this. he already knows he's hear to more or less clear his name if he can, but he's...doing a poor job of that. he knows what happened though, albeit in bits and pieces. they can probably figure the rest out from that. or they can call him a liar as well! it doesn't really matter to him, but it'd be in his best interest to do something about this before they start attacking him on sight. like subaru did. that was kind of entertaining to him, but he should've expected the intervention. but dito's rarely ever thinking in the moment of violence; as subaru had cut his face, he was all in.
he actually reaches up a hand to touch at the fresh gash, noting that it isn't even that deep. not that it matters, since it will heal itself sooner than later. he chuckles lightly, then starts to sit up a bit — which he wouldn't even bother to do for most people.
...the bar is on the floor. ]
No, no. You forgot to ask me the most important part.
[ this interrogation and evidence ain't free! ]
Why would I show up to a meeting full of losers that already think I did it?
[ he can be a little difficult, as a treat. helena clearly wants something from him if she's even bothering to talk to him. he wouldn't be surprised if she already has her own answers that she's perfecting in her head right now, because she's clearly the smartest woman in the room. ]
no subject
[the answer comes easy, simple. whatever Dito was trying to do, he failed on both counts - the marks from a bladed weapon said one thing, and Nagito still breathes. and without the arm, would they have understood why their visitor was doing what he did? would the links that form have been tangible? she doesn't think so.
so, whatever someone thinks, she's not above giving credit where credit is due.]
He's alive, after all. You claimed to shoot him, but he still breathes. But why he ended up the way he did...that's remaining unknown.
[if she's going to hold grudges against him, she'll do it for the things he actually did, and not assumed faults. that's the least she can offer - basic courtesy to another. and difficult as Dito is, he does own up to what he does, no matter how much other people shudder to hear it. he's honest when others would cover up their sins, and she has to respect it. it's why she can ask these things at all.]
That, and how you got so addled that day. It's not far fetched to think the two are related.
no subject
so obviously it's their job to figure it out with what he can give. if they want. ]
Yeah, 'cause I did. ...Well, sort of. I would've if it didn't go off on its own, that's for sure.
[ he tosses a hand out. ]
It's all Add's fault, anyway. Too bad he's dead.
[ dito kind of thought he was funny! but he's not against him dying, either. it is what it is. he probably could've cleared this up a whole lot better too, even though dito imagines there'd be more slamming doors and more aggression like the last time he'd caught add leaving a meeting early.
that man ain't right... ]
Dunno why Komaeda isn't.
no subject
[she'll keep the details to herself for a moment, but she takes in the new information. the gun went off "by itself", but somehow Add was involved. that isn't out of the realm of possibility given how much of his magic seems to be all over these events.]
How did you get the gun in the first place?
[he's still not answering why he was there, but she figures one step at a time. one question, so that when he chooses to be difficult, she can dismantle each obstacle as they come.]
no subject
"Miracles." Okay. Sure. That explains why he dropped his own gun, I guess.
[ yep! there it is. the answer is really that simple, as far as he's concerned. he knows exactly what kind of weird phenomena that seems to occur around komaeda that she's referring to, considering he is all too intimately familiar with it — but it's laughable to him right now when he remembers how the gun came into his own hand. ]
Dumbass was about to shoot himself and screwed up. I just picked it up. Ha... Some miracle!
no subject
So are you saying it somehow got dropped over a large distance?
[as much as Nagito courts death, she doesn't think he'd shoot himself like that.]
Wait, you're avoiding another question - why were you even there in the first place?
no subject
Fucking hell, you ask too many questions... Okay, listen: The gun slid pretty far. Or it got thrown. I don't even know, because Add was doing his dumb gravity shit all over the place. But it ended up at my feet. I wanted to shoot Komaeda, oh believe me I did, but there was a whole lot of racket going on.
[ he opens his eyes again, if only just to stare down helena directly in hers. his expression is less tense, but he obviously looks a tinge more unbridled in his eyes as he crooks a grin at helena. ]
And that's why I was there in the first place. Is that so weird to you?
[ "...of all people," he wants to tack on. but he doesn't. ]
no subject
movement from one place to another, and new components being placed on the table. ]
Not at all. Thank you for your answers.
[this becomes stranger and stranger. gravity magic, now, and chaos. the outline in her head is rough, not filed down smooth enough to be said aloud - thinking and thinking, sandpaper brought to refine the edge until it might be shown.]
no subject
he kicks his legs back, slouching again in his chair as he lifts his chin toward helena before saying something final — albeit a little too low for anyone else to hear but her, given her vicinity. ]
That robot isn't as friendly as you all think it is, by the way.
no subject
Are you saying that because of the emergency code? Don't worry. That's been there for months, waiting for you.
[and if he wants to be smart, he can understand the implications in that - that she's known about it this entire time, and yet hasn't seen fit to ask Dynamo to execute it yet.]
no subject
Heh... Didn't know you knew about that code yourself.
[ honestly, he didn't. it's probably why this is doubly amusing to him. why would helena know that in the first place? were they really that afraid of him? did add give it to helena in particular?
that's so interesting.
dito snorts through his nose before crossing one leg over the other, albeit loosely — letting an ankle settle on his opposing knee in a laid-back manner. ]
Not what I'm talking about, but I sure hope it works flawlessly when you need it just for me. I'm sure it will.
[ his voice is dripping with sarcasm right now. ]
no subject
[she can't help the immediate response, fired back off, the flash of ill temper that's instantly crushed and smothered even as it crosses her expression. back to something smoother, and her hand grips her cane just a fraction tighter - thoughts crossing her mind, and realization cracking through. figuring something else out, from the tangled mess this is.
she shouldn't have said that code earlier. it was a miracle she said that code earlier, as if Nagito's charm had passed on for just a second. a thread, a single note, another bead in the string of things.
of course.
she's been thinking too narrowly. her free hand touches her mouth absently, as she closes her eyes briefly. even if she's being baited right now, unfortunately, it's shaping up that she'll have to thank him again for the insight. not exactly what she wants.]
no subject
they're just here, and he's trying to steer them correctly. he thinks he deserves a little fun; but he would rarely take a situation like this seriously in any event. ]
Dang, someone's got a temper.
[ he chuckles, eyes focusing on how helena's grip tightens on her cane. it's something he thinks is funny, because he does that shit with his spear when he's getting pissed off. is he pissing her off? the most levelheaded one here? not that he's unsurprised in his ability to goad her, considering she's already stabbed him for it. but it's still really, really amusing to him when she gets like this. he kind of likes it. ]
Look, I'm just trying to help you here. Whether you believe it or not. And you certainly don't deserve it... But the Add guy's a real freak. His robot minion's not gonna be much better, 'kay? They're both instigators.
no subject
she very nearly wants to throw back that she does not have a temper, but she remembers that she is twenty years old and not six, so bickering ill suits what is supposed to be productive. that, and if she raises her voice too much, someone will look over here, and pay too much attention. so, Helena breathes, and mentally tries to brush off the feeling of his smile - there's nothing to smile about right now. her eyes open again, and she straightens back up, her hand coming to touch the table.]
How did you get his arm, by the way?
[she half expects some insane demand in exchange for more information.]
no subject
[ he answers easily, even a little enthusiastically. ]
I didn't cut it off, though. It was just there. Kinda like how I got the gun, haha...
[ there's more to it, but... helena is right. dito's starting to feel a little stingier on information, specifically just for her. even though he already went and told her something she didn't ask for. if he's feeling pettier now, that's on her. ]
no subject
So that would mean...
[yeah, she's stopped giving him attention.]
no subject
... Figure it out yet, inspector?
attention check: 3
maybe someone was trying to make up for his mistake yet again.
anyway Dito gets one more shot before she walks off or he can give up, his choice.]
no subject
he scoffs, although the tone he speaks with next is entirely serious, albeit a little miffed: ]
— I did get shocked that night.
no subject
You did?
[Nagito did that, she knows, from Dynamo's logs. but why?]
no subject
[ he tosses his hands out now, feigning innocence.
well, he thinks he's pretty innocent in this situation. maybe. sort of.
doesn't matter. ]
I didn't start anything with that hunk of scrap metal. I kinda just walked into whatever the hell was already going on.
[ just don't ask him what that was. ]
