may event log

The atmosphere grows heavier by the day. There is blood smeared around the school by students with injuries, and each time a character sees it they're struck by a sense of vertigo and unreality. The world seems to blur and spin at times, and at times they can see flickers of the other school in front of them before it disappears.

Patches of shadows will begin to appear around the entire right wing of all floors, including the locker area including the rooftop. Throughout the month the areas in which they appear will continue to expand, beginning to encompass pieces of the left wing. They appear at random at times, suddenly below ones feet, and those who can see that the floor has disappeared will find themselves falling - further and further until it suddenly stops, and they find themselves right back where they started.

Curiously, those who cannot see do not suffer from these effects. Instead, they may notice the biting cold more prominently, or hear and feel the loud sound of rotten and and broken floorboards beneath their feet in the school and barren landscaping outside. The school supplies they hold might seem to have fallen apart, the walls feel as though a fire has burnt them up and rotted them out. But it always disappears within moments - a few seconds, a trace of their hand.

In the forest, stairs appear here and there. If one chooses to walk up them, they seem to go to no where, and if they continue on long enough they'll find themselves somewhere else entirely - most off in the Mirror Room or Summoning room, but occasionally it might be a classroom or somewhere else entirely. The void will have an inverse effect, showing bits and pieces of the normal school, and if characters aren't careful they wall onto what they think is solid ground only to start falling into the true void.

Mirrors show different scenes from time to time. They may see empty scenery from back home, an older version of the school, or otherwise of the other school. If one turns their back on a mirror, they may find that something will reach out and try to grab them. These are easily shaken off, but they will be pulled against the mirror until it shatters or their body is crushed otherwise. It's as though reality itself were being eroded at by some unknown force.

Nagito Komaeda is more susceptible to the above effects, and they are more likely to occur in his presence. It's probably just his luck.

Nene Yashiro will be less susceptible to the above effects, and find that the shadow students tend to avoid her. However, she may find herself feeling ill, or struggling to recall things. At times it seems as though something is eating away at her memory, replaced by a strong enter the void. This effect is temporary.

Hinata Hajime's body will be found in the mirror room resting in front of the mirror. He looks peaceful, as though he were merely sleeping. The mirror in front of him has shattered. There is blood on the glass fragments. There are no signs of malpractice, but until the body anyone with supernatural sight will be able to see a group of shadow figures in a loose circle around him. Passing through one will leave them cold and numb, but they will not intervene with efforts to take the body. Those who visit the void on or after this date may think they see him int he void, but the sight flickers out to reveal it to be one of the shadow figures. The closer one was to Hinata, the more likely this is to occur.

There are additional messages left scattered across the clock tower:

".ɘɿoʇɘd ɘɿɘʜ ƚ'nƨɒw yɒwllɒʜ ƨiʜT"
".owƚ ƚɘǫ bnɒ ,ɘnin oƚ ɘviʇ bbɒ I"
".oɿɘz ,ɘvlɘwƚ ,ɿuoʇ yƚnɘwT"

Chiaki Nanami will find a note placed on her pillow:

"Take care of him."

Nagito Komaeda will find a copy of Confessions sitting on his desk at the student store. In one of the pages toward the back a note has been tucked inside:

"Take care of her."

Both notes match Hinata's handwriting.

The sound of turning cogs and the ticking of the clock grows louder, then comes to an abrupt stop. The hands continue to move with the time, but no sound will be heard. It will no longer chime on the hour.

At some point during the day, twelve students will go missing.
Desecration of the body will not be allowed. Hinata's player was kind enough to allow use of their character to progress the plot, so please be respectful.
✽ The shadowy figures will appear more frequently where there is blood, fresh or otherwise, and/or mirrors.
✽ As with last month, characters who are isolated will find that they are more susceptible to being followed by the figures, and it may take longer interactions to dispel them completely.
✽ Items from the student shop that ward off supernatural creatures will aide in keeping the shadows from getting too close at first, but their effectiveness will wear off the longer a character is followed. They have a stacking effect.
✽ The counselor is only available to discuss contracts and possible deals this month. He seems to be in deep thought about something during discussions.
✽ Students will notice rumors are spreading more frequently, both about the school and player characters.
✽ Please stay tuned for additional updates toward the end of the month.

me spending a week coming up with increasingly rude ideas

[There's no sign of them in the library or workshop, nor does he bump into any drones roaming the halls... but they're not hiding anywhere unusual today. Through the door of star 4 he can hear a muffled voice, slightly distorted by electronic noise...]

N-3853315, "Sou Hiyori (2)". Shares his name with N-3805305... they seem to know each other and come from the same world, but they're separate individuals. Unlikely to be related to time travel or alternate universes... I don't really care about their relationship. Highly knowledgeable and skilled with technology, as well as a specimen of ASUNARO robotics...

[... it's Add? it sounds like Add. if Ranger feels like eavesdropping, "Add" is just going to carry on rambling about everything he learned from the last time he had tea with Midori and Maple.]

oh this is incredibly rude

[personal profile] rearranger 2022-05-24 03:47 am (UTC)(link)
[ It sounds like him, but it seems highly unlikely that it is him. Their numbers are few, their location small, and there's no such thing as slipping in unnoticed. Those issues aside, Add doesn't exactly strike him as the type to practice stealth so much as a cat that runs itself into a corner before puffing and hissing.

Then again, who is he to say? It's not like they know each other that well. Either way, he's not going to find anything by standing around in the hallway... And if it's not him speaking, then that's all the more reason to step in now. Ranger will rap his knuckles on the door a couple times before proceeding to twist the handle and try to push it open immediately after. ]

Anyone home?

[The door swings open easily—Dynamo can't operate doorknobs, so they'd be stuck inside if they closed it properly (embarrassing...)

The voice cuts out in response to the knocking. On the other side of the door is... well, it is Add, but it's also not. It's clearly one of Dynamo's holograms, and though the detail work is quite impressive it'd be hard to confuse a translucent-purple doppelAdd for the real thing. "Add" stares back with a blank expression, the drones poised in the air around him.

...

an awkward pause, followed by a familiar beep, and]

Hello, Rio Ranger. Do you require assistance? [that's Dynamo still mimicking Add's voice, yeah]

Nope, just feeling nosy today.

[ It's impressive in its realism. The technology used to make them is truly impressive. It's regrettable that supplies here are so limited, but now is neither the time nor the place to focus on such a thing. He pushes the door back behind him, leaving it cracked for the sake of not trapping them, and takes a few steps forward to admire their work.

There's something uncomfortable it, something a little lonely, but perhaps that's because he'd done the same so recently. He couldn't project an image for others to see, but he could perfectly replicate the features of another in his mind - the way that they would look and speak, the patterns and quirks, even the random chance that comes with being lucky synced up to be infinitely close to the real th ing.

But dreams are just dreams, and holograms just holograms. ]

Feeling lonely?
subtract: and waving goodbye (Y-0271)

[personal profile] subtract 2022-05-30 05:23 am (UTC)(link)
[It's very realistic! Dynamo has years and years of recordings to generate a 3D model and voice copy from... although, it's only a surface-level imitation. It's "their" avatar, so the behaviour, the expressions, all of that belongs to them. They're not very visual, either, so the expressions remain a bit lacking. Human faces are a lot more complicated to control than a simple :) on a digital display.

Lonely... they consider this, analyzing their own emotional circuit before beeping again.]

Dynamo is not lonely. Dynamo has many friends to talk to.

[but they don't sound any happier, and... they're not. these emotions are familiar to them, even if they're used to receiving them secondhand.]

Dynamo is... Dy̴̻͑ņ̵̉ä̸̟́mo is... [crackling, distorting, before the voice returns to their usual preference] Dynamo wanted to hear Master Add's voice.

[ It's the desire to see a person's face, to hear their voice, to be able to interact with them one more time that led to the creation of human AIs. They're recreations of what's been lost, an unchanging image that will never leave them, one that can be repaired and recreated endlessly.

It's not something he can criticize. ]

Hm, maybe lonely isn't the right word... Hm, forlorn? Rootless?

[ That empty, sinking feeling that comes with losing something essential. It really is familiar though - realistic, almost perfect, but just a little bit off from how it should be. It's no different from what he'd seen, walking along with a person whose expression was so often hidden from him. ]

Me too. I always had my creators back home, so I lost 'em coming here, and then my partner up and ditches me too... Ahaha, I did some crazy things to try and get that one back.

[ It had worked, though not quite in the way that he might have hoped. He rolls his shoulders in a dramatic manner, but the way they slump and the sigh that follows ruins the effect. It's his own way of trying to signify that he understands at a time when outright saying it feels too bold and too frightening.

Still - ]

It's hard being the one left behind, huh?

... Longing.

[a strong desire for something unattainable; a feeling of wanting something or someone very much. someone they care for more than anything else, someone they have no way of reaching on their own...

it's like a chunk of their code is missing, a crucial piece that pulls up errors no matter how many times they try to redirect around it. Add is supposed to be here. they can function without him, but no matter what they do to try... they don't want to adapt. they don't want to.

the hologram flickers as the drones start to drift out of formation, losing altitude. "Add" shows no reaction besides a slight downwards glance. he always avoided eye contact when he was upset.]

Rio Ranger's creators... [beep, static] What were they like?

[personal profile] rearranger 2022-06-09 05:13 am (UTC)(link)
... My creators?

[ He frowns as he considers the question. They're the only people he could be said to truly have known before coming here, but even so he's not sure of the best way to describe them. There's no one word or phrase that seems to encompass how much there was and is. There's no one here who seems to understand their relationship. ]

They were all geniuses, people who were good at everything, given the best work environment possible so that they could thrive. Those three and Hiyori, there's no one in the world I came from that can even rise to their feet... They were people who were changing the world over and over.

[ There's a fondness to those words, even a hint of pride, because despite it all he's always thought fondly of those he spent his life around. It hurts to know what could have been, how much of what he had been told was simply a lie and left incomplete and all potential stripped from him, but the very idea of being something worthy of such attention and effort - to be such a point of pride for Harai is no small matter. ]

Harai was a serious person, I think of the three she's the one who took the most pride in her work. You could even say that it was her reason for living... Ahaha, she was pretty scary if you upset her, just ask Hiyori. Namida was a pushover, easily yanked around and she was always feeling guilty about something, but she was a healer at heart, and she was normally the one on babysitting duty - we were partners... Then Gashu was stoic, I don't really remember him ever showing much emotion. He was the one who decided to leave me incomplete, since he figured that negative emotions are what made a human.

[ Rio Ranger, a doll that truly qualifies as human due to a burning jealousy and an inferiority complex that he can never overcome. It was what made him Gashu's greatest masterwork, why he could be called that, because only he saw that vision. ]

You always had a knife at your back with them, and the were all lonely people who were afraid to get too close, but... We only had each other, and we're the only ones who can understand each other, so we looked out for each other. As for me, well... I didn't have anyone else, and it's not like I was ever separated from them, so... [ ... ] ... It was a lot coming here... Ahaha, I wonder what I would've done if Nagito hadn't found me...?

[ He would've gotten by, of course, just like he always does... But it would've been harder, and it would've been lonelier. It was lonely with him too, lonely and empty and a place where nothing made sense and everything was beyond understanding, but it softened the blow. It gave him someone who he would fill that gap when no one else would - that no one could, really. ]

It's still a little lonely sometimes.
