I wouldn't try to actually use it like that, though. The runes are a bit smudged together and I'm not sure how picky Illipia would be about making a circle out of tiny squares.

Besides, it's a lot simpler than it looks. There are more lines, but it's mostly just circles and inscriptions. There aren't any complicated shapes like in your family crest. I'd say yours is a lot more impressive.

Spirit magic works a bit different from other types of summoning, though, so I'm not sure how well it would work here if you actually tried to use it. It's a request for help, not a command, so it would depend on the temperament of the local spirits more than anything. They can also be pretty fickle... but it would be hard to mess up an Illipia circle badly enough to cause harm.

They're similar, but not exactly the same... ghosts don't normally stick around unless there's something keeping them in place, and they don't hold the same kind of powers that spirits do. Powerful spirits can manifest a physical body, but it's normal for most lesser spirits not to have one at all. The main difference is that spirits are born the way they are, so they're a lot more resilient. A human ghost would have to come from a very powerful mage to keep its consciousness together all on its own.
That said, I don't normally work with ghosts, so most of that is speculation. You better not be thinking about getting into necromancy, kid.
