june event log/tdm

06/06 8:00 AM
Spring break concludes and the school opens its doors to reveal a new building. Rooms have been added and expanded upon, club rooms moved out of classes, the final proof of it erased from existence, and now only it's memory remains. Even that will be forgotten for so long, and perhaps it's that thought which triggers the strong sense of deja vu that comes and goes, making one question how many times they've roamed these halls before, spoken with that person, completed this work.

The native students are more interested in the changes to the school. They familiarize themselves with the new layouts and assignments, discuss student council opening, and continue to gossip and spread rumors about everything from conspiracy theories to unexplained deaths. Characters may find themselves falling into step with the rumors spread about them. Transfer students may even find themselves wanting to create and repeat them.

Where it becomes unusual is that the rumors seem to be true. Transfer students may find themselves inclined to conform to behaviors that others have assigned to them over the past few months. But some of them seem to be more real, more tangible… Here are a few that are hot in Yogen High!

Throughout the month the handicrafts club will be handing out friendship bracelets to those who come in pairs. They promise that as long as you’re wearing them, your friendship will last forever! But be careful if you break it, because your relationship will end and it’ll leave a permanent scar on your souls! Those who are subject to this rumor will find that they feel closer to their bracelet partner while wearing it, but that breaking it will make it painful to be near each other. The scar can be healed by fixing the bracelet.
There is a rumor that if you find the stairs in the forest you’ll disappear and never be seen again! The rumors vary, but all seem to agree that they're transported to another world. Those who venture up them will find themselves in a long corridor with numerous doors on both sides, spanning the entire length. One might hold nothing but ticking clock while the next is a veritable greenhouse with man eating plants, or a lagoon with mermaids that will drown you, a bedroom that ages you, or something far more mundane. If they don't return by dying first, a character will eventually find a door back to the school and find themselves standing in front of a mirror. A minimum of 24 hours will have passed since their departure.
Students might hear about the butterfly teacups in the kitchen that can be filled up with anything! A person can even pour in their hurt, sickness, and pains, but once it overflows all of the misery contained will spill out onto the person pouring into it! Characters will find that just being in the presence of the teacup is enough to be affected by it, but that it is quick to overflow and leave them ill, irritable, and depressed. The only way to cure their affliction is to have another person take it on by the sparkling clear liquid that fills it or pouring it onto them, or just to wait it out.
The student store has a sale on blank journals. There is a rumor that writing in them will allow one to regain lost memories or erase bad memories depending on the version. But unfortunately, it replaces your current memories with those of your previous student life instead. The only way to stop this transition is for a character to find find their anchor in the school – someone or something that keeps them grounded in the school.
There are rumors of students receiving a text message offering go grant them a wish. If a character responds with their wish, it will magically be granted! Unfortunately, it’s just an illusion - they might hallucinate being home, or hold rocks while believing them to be gold ingots. The only way to cure this is for a character to accept reality, but unfortunately, those under the influence of this rumor will not want to do so.

Aside from that, one can hear rumors about ritual games or superstitions like finding a black cat crossing your path bringing good luck or gifting a knife severing friendships.

06/01 - 06/30
The forest appears to be expanding, or rather more of it seems to have been uncovered. The more people explore it and venture into it, the more it becomes apparent that they were just scratching the surface of what's within it. Behind the pine trees lies a temperate forest filled with maple, walnut, and birch trees, shrubs and herbs. Mosses and bryophytes create a green carpet along the forest floor, the rich soil supporting a rich variety of flora and fungi, and a few small ponds scattered about.

The deer and butterflies are here, along with rodents and bugs – many of which seem to have mutated from their normal forms. Mixed in with their normal counterparts are butterflies and dragonflies tear into flesh while large moths h ave to many eyes, wasps unleash powerful paralytics while the animals that skitter about have warped features have too many features or not enough.

The deeper one goes in, the more the heavier the air grows and the more unsettling the forest becomes. There are patches of it trapped in different seasons, from fall to winter with the temperatures to match. Large shadows can be found creeping about, but by time one gets close they're already gone. Those with supernatural sight may see a shadow hanging from a tree, or the ghostly image of a figure passing through – but they're always too far away to make out.

Maybe there’s a reason the forest was sealed off for so long... But if you keep going, maybe you'll find something?

As a reminder, faculty & student council applications are open! Those interested will be expected to submit an application to the staff and go through with an interview, who will let them know that they will be in contact at a later date. Characters will be aware that the staff is solely responsible for choosing who is elected this year, making it much simpler than the previous years.
Rumors can be anything that fits within the setting mechanics. Feel free to make them as simple or elaborate as you wish. If you have questions about whether or not something can be done, just let me know.
Those who die to a rumor that involves "visiting another world" will find themselves in the elevator with a fresh tally on their wrist.
Please let me know if your character is exploring the deeper parts of the forest. If you link me to your thread, you may just get a surprise. :)

No.

( the response is immediate, and maybe a little sharper than is entirely necessary, but his expression is otherwise rather dull. it takes him a moment, but his brows pinch together as he examines the person in front of him, like he's trying to figure out what to make of him. it ultimately ends up with a grimace as he looks over his shoulder, back towards the doctor's office that he most certainly does not want to enter if ada is not in there, before his attention returns.

there's little actual interest in the other reflected in his face. if he wants to find ada, maybe it has to do with how they got separated, or how he's here? it's not that he can't remember anything at all, but much like the dogs and the crowds, it feels far away — dreamlike. he knows this is a school though, the kind of place that he had never been to before. he'll try another angle then. )

What about... students? She's very pretty — and smart. Her hair is long and brown.

Not exactly a unique descriptor around here.

[ it strikes as a really generic description when it comes to female highschool students, if dito thinks about it.

he throws his hands behind his head as he leans against the nearby wall, considering it. and as dito's eyes follow the other's body language, he quickly figures that this guy is...off. the way he's seemingly intimidated by the office and yet sought it out on his own is cause enough to label him as weird. the way he describes the person he's looking for is weirder, still. ]

Except for the pretty and smart thing... That's so subjective it's almost unhelpful. Got anything else?

[ dito's already well aware there's nobody named "ada" here, but he's doing this anyway. ]

( hmm... can't say he likes the tone on this one. not too friendly, even if it's not too rude either. it's still a lot better than he can really ask for either way though — he's still being helped, isn't he? so he needs to describe her better... there's a bit of hesitation as his eyes narrow, but he continues on quick enough. the fact that she's pretty, smart and kind is objective fact in his mind, but he can afford to add onto it a little bit. )

A psychologist... ( that's the type of doctor she was, he's pretty sure. ) When she blows her whistle, any pain you have goes away.

( he starts out looking down at the ground as he recounts it, a faint smile crosses his lips, but his eyes lift and his expression events out. shuffling from one foot to the other, he points at himself. )

...I'm Emil. I'm sure she would be looking for me, too.

[ ... those sure are some traits. dito squints at the other, somewhat baffled by how weird he is. ]

I haven't heard any whistles around here, so that narrows it down to...nothing!

[ do they even have a psychologist? ]

We've got a counselor, I guess. Also not a girl. [ big L for women in the healthcare field in yogen right now... ] But you could ask him since he tends to know a lot of shit nobody else does.

[ dito kind of just...brushes past emil's introduction. although he'll remember the other's name. ]

She might be already dead.

[ he blurts that out pretty nonchalantly. ]

( the smile disappears at the answer he gets, corners of his lips tugging into a frown to replace it, even. seeing a doctor other than ada — the idea causes a chill to run down his spine. would they be able to tell? would they know? who's to say what they would do with a lunatic like him if they knew where he came from? and if that's not bad enough, something even worse interrupts those thoughts as dito voices his opinion on the matter. )

No!

( it's sharp — loud enough to cut through the bustle of other voices in the hallway. )

She can't be... Not Ada.

( besides, it doesn't make sense. he has to remind himself of that; it doesn't make sense for a place like this. after all — )

This is a school, isn't it? How would someone die here...

Are you kidding me?

[ dito pretty much scoffs now, pushing himself off of where he was leaning against the wall here. ]

Do you want a body count so far? Or wait, better yet — fucking roll your sleeve up.

[ he points at the other's wrist, wondering if the other even knows about the tallies yet considering he thinks this is a normal school. so clearly he's a bit out of the loop. but dito's still curious about his number. ]

How many you got?

A body count...

( he knows it isn't serious — rhetorical, is that the word ada had used? a rhetorical question — but he does. wants an explanation, more accurately. it's something he's easily distracted from though, as dito moves forward off the wall to indicate his wrist, and emil in turn is quick to grip it with his other hand, taking a step back himself with a sharp look to his eyes. what about his wrist? it's kind of sore, but... it's not as if it's the kind of sore that warrants attention. the kind of perpetual ache that emil is all-too tolerant of to consider inspecting.

but at the other's interest, it does seem that... it probably deserves some kind of concern. so pulling at his sleeve, his eyes narrow in displeasure as he sees the marks — tallies etched into his skin. a lot of them. too many to tell the exact number at a moment's glance, and so emil ends up with no choice but to pause, though he keeps dito in his peripheral even as he squints down at the marks.

basic math is something that ada taught him, luckily. it takes a long moment of tapping on his wrist, and then another moment where he kind of eyes dito like a wild animal who's unsure whether it trusts an offering being given to it, trying to decide if he should even say.

... )

Eighteen. What does that have to do with Ada?
