Spring break concludes and the school opens its doors to reveal a new building. Rooms have been added and expanded upon, club rooms moved out of classes, the final proof of it erased from existence, and now only it's memory remains. Even that will be forgotten for so long, and perhaps it's that thought which triggers the strong sense of deja vu that comes and goes, making one question how many times they've roamed these halls before, spoken with that person, completed this work.

The native students are more interested in the changes to the school. They familiarize themselves with the new layouts and assignments, discuss student council opening, and continue to gossip and spread rumors about everything from conspiracy theories to unexplained deaths. Characters may find themselves falling into step with the rumors spread about them. Transfer students may even find themselves wanting to create and repeat them.

Where it becomes unusual is that the rumors seem to be true. Transfer students may find themselves inclined to conform to behaviors that others have assigned to them over the past few months. But some of them seem to be more real, more tangible… Here are a few that are hot in Yogen High!

Throughout the month the handicrafts club will be handing out friendship bracelets to those who come in pairs. They promise that as long as you’re wearing them, your friendship will last forever! But be careful if you break it, because your relationship will end and it’ll leave a permanent scar on your souls! Those who are subject to this rumor will find that they feel closer to their bracelet partner while wearing it, but that breaking it will make it painful to be near each other. The scar can be healed by fixing the bracelet.

There is a rumor that if you find the stairs in the forest you’ll disappear and never be seen again! The rumors vary, but all seem to agree that they're transported to another world. Those who venture up them will find themselves in a long corridor with numerous doors on both sides, spanning the entire length. One might hold nothing but ticking clock while the next is a veritable greenhouse with man eating plants, or a lagoon with mermaids that will drown you, a bedroom that ages you, or something far more mundane. If they don't return by dying first, a character will eventually find a door back to the school and find themselves standing in front of a mirror. A minimum of 24 hours will have passed since their departure.

Students might hear about the butterfly teacups in the kitchen that can be filled up with anything! A person can even pour in their hurt, sickness, and pains, but once it overflows all of the misery contained will spill out onto the person pouring into it! Characters will find that just being in the presence of the teacup is enough to be affected by it, but that it is quick to overflow and leave them ill, irritable, and depressed. The only way to cure their affliction is to have another person take it on by the sparkling clear liquid that fills it or pouring it onto them, or just to wait it out.

The student store has a sale on blank journals. There is a rumor that writing in them will allow one to regain lost memories or erase bad memories depending on the version. But unfortunately, it replaces your current memories with those of your previous student life instead. The only way to stop this transition is for a character to find find their anchor in the school – someone or something that keeps them grounded in the school.

There are rumors of students receiving a text message offering go grant them a wish. If a character responds with their wish, it will magically be granted! Unfortunately, it’s just an illusion - they might hallucinate being home, or hold rocks while believing them to be gold ingots. The only way to cure this is for a character to accept reality, but unfortunately, those under the influence of this rumor will not want to do so.

Aside from that, one can hear rumors about ritual games or superstitions like finding a black cat crossing your path bringing good luck or gifting a knife severing friendships.

06/01 - 06/30

The forest appears to be expanding, or rather more of it seems to have been uncovered. The more people explore it and venture into it, the more it becomes apparent that they were just scratching the surface of what's within it. Behind the pine trees lies a temperate forest filled with maple, walnut, and birch trees, shrubs and herbs. Mosses and bryophytes create a green carpet along the forest floor, the rich soil supporting a rich variety of flora and fungi, and a few small ponds scattered about.

The deer and butterflies are here, along with rodents and bugs – many of which seem to have mutated from their normal forms. Mixed in with their normal counterparts are butterflies and dragonflies tear into flesh while large moths h ave to many eyes, wasps unleash powerful paralytics while the animals that skitter about have warped features have too many features or not enough.

The deeper one goes in, the more the heavier the air grows and the more unsettling the forest becomes. There are patches of it trapped in different seasons, from fall to winter with the temperatures to match. Large shadows can be found creeping about, but by time one gets close they're already gone. Those with supernatural sight may see a shadow hanging from a tree, or the ghostly image of a figure passing through – but they're always too far away to make out.

Maybe there’s a reason the forest was sealed off for so long... But if you keep going, maybe you'll find something?

☽ Noah Lives In The Woods Now, That's It That's The Prompt

[Forest expansions are something Noah is keenly aware of, since he spends the majority of his time out there scouting. By the point it expands, he has a fairly solid little map he's drawn up in a notebook from his multiple excursions, but given that the forest is bigger now... he's gonna need more pages, he thinks.

Noah is Noah and that means he's used to long explorations, so he'll be gone for about a week. Don't worry, he brought supplies.

If you came with him, he doesn't expect you to stay the full week with him, and he's more than happy to walk you out of the forest once you're bored with camping. If you do intend to stay a week, welcome. You'll find that Noah sleeps in trees and that he's great at finding little alcoves where the weather bears down on you less to rest in. You'll also find that you're probably safe from anything that attacks you; Noah's quick to dispatch anything that strays too close with too much hostile intent. If you ask, he'll teach you how to skin and clean an animal so that you, too, may experience the joys of eating the biblically-accurate deer.

As soon as he exits the pine forest and makes it to the birch, though, Noah's excitement about exploration is renewed. He spends time foraging, and if you ask he will tell you all about what things you can and cannot eat in the forest. That's mostly everything because sometimes you just don't know what that mushroom does and it's a bad idea to test it out, but sometimes Noah finds something that is actually edible and useful and so he picks it and puts it in his bag. Sometimes when you take breaks, he'll sketch the surroundings, and though his backgrounds aren't as good as the cats he usually draws, he's still proud to show you graphite sketches of trees and mushrooms and the leaves against the sky.

When the forest gets creepy is when his mood shifts again. He's far less animated, since he can see the hanging shadows and see further shadows lingering. When he calls out to them and they don't respond, he frowns. Noah figures that would be the response, but... Still. The giant moths were way cooler.

Noah's on his fifth page of this map and at the top of the page, he writes "ghost forest" and that's just what he's going to call it for the time being. If you're with him up to this point, he'll ask,]

Noah can kill it while they close their eyes, that's fine, but they request that they get to study it for at least fifteen minutes before Noah goes hunting. ]

A. The Stair Case

[Ishimaru was trying to be careful in exploring the forest. But it seems that he was not careful enough. While checking out a set of stairs in the middle of these woods, he suddenly found himself somewhere completely different!

With an uncertain breath, he stares down the corridor and all of the doors lining it. He has no idea what to pick. With so many doors in a place like this, many of them have to be dangerous and/or nightmarish in some way. But at least he has someone to work with. Whether it's someone who was accompanying him in the forest or someone who arrived here independently, Ishimaru will glance towards whoever's nearby with a frown.]

There appear to be... quite a few choices! [He utters that understatement while he tries to ponder his options! With the help of another.]

[ Ah... Yeah. Keigo had thought they'd be able to handle a forest, having lived in one all their life, but their forest did not have stairs leading to the middle of ...somewhere?

They shuffled along behind Ishimaru, curious about the doors, but not so eager to be the first one to touch them. ]

Sure are... Let's see if we can hear anything behind the doors, in case there's a bear or something on the other side.

kaede's a pragmatic, reality-driven girl, but—

when characters step into the auditorium...

it turns into a large hall, completely transformed, as if there'd never been a school here to begin with. rows upon rows of black audience seats line the way to the stage, a birch-wooden structure that towers a good ten feet above the audience itself, with a large, black grand piano sitting center of it.

kaede herself sits on the piano bench, dressed in an unusual gown she's never worn a day in her life, and there's three times to catch her:

1. before the "show". it's quiet, save for the gentle sounds of piano warm-ups. maybe a song or two. no one but her is here.
2. during the show. the seats are filled with faceless people (but they're not shadow students, it's more of the type that they're just not important) and she plays sets of various tunes, particular from chopin.
3. after the show. the people murmur about the performance, some calling for encore and others doing what's expected and leaving with a newfound appreciation in their hearts. kaede remains on stage for a little while, smile matching those that'd heard her music.

[it feels a little nostalgic, except there's no holes for her to drop into nothingness this time.

kaede's back! with a notebook (not the rumored ones) and pen! this time, she's doing general notes on the new... renovations to the school, one day at a time. maybe she'll do a more thorough search of it, but right now she's just finding out what's new and where things have changed dimensions compared to just last month.]

It's definitely not bigger bigger, but it really feels like it...

[maybe it's the variations in space... anyway kaede's going to accept any company at all, because two heads are better than one, four eyes better than two, and... well, who likes being lonely.]

[ It makes their head hurt, the entire layout being different than what they've been dreaming about— neither should be as familiar to them as they are, but they both are and aren't at the same time. It doesn't make sense. They try not to think too hard about it.

It's only after the second or third time that they've autopiloted to the bathroom or the art room and found themselves stubbing their toe against an unexpected wall or standing inside a classroom looking like they have no idea how they got there, that they've accepted the fact that the renovations are a thing they'll have to deal with. ]

This... just happened overnight? Why?

[ Ranger isn't much of one for rumors, or at least not those of the high school variety. He'll listen to them, but he's not all that fond of being the subject of them, and he finds that applications being opened for various positions to be of more interest. One might find him reviewing the listings on the bulletin board, murmuring the titles of positions and their respective responsibilities as they do so. He'll also be around in the library during the day or the observatory at night working on an application for a faculty position, which certainly isn't something he had foreseen himself doing.

Either way, if anyone approaches and shows any kind of interest he'll ask, ]

[ Or if your character isn't the type to care about applications, he can also be found snapping at random students asking about whether or not he's actually getting married. He must be getting asked it a lot, because he seems pretty cranky now. ]

[ It may be that someone made the mistake of suggesting seeing where the stairs lead now while they were together, or perhaps it's simply chance that's led him to wind up in this place with another. How they wound up here isn't as important as the fact that they're here now. It's not what he'd expected to find at the set of stairs that had appeared before him, which had until now dropped a person back in the school. Still, there's nothing to be done save to see what's behind each door in an effort to find the exit.

Behind the first door had been nothing but darkness, and so he had opted too skip it, but the second has proven to be of more interest. It's a large aquarium, far bigger than the one that had been present at Disney, containing thousands of exotic fish of all shapes and sizes. The tanks have no walls holding them in, no glass to tap or hold the water in place, yet the water remains suspending all on its own. Every once in awhile a fish jumps from one slice of water to another, making for a peculiar but seemingly harmless experience.

He places his fingers against the water and despite knowing what would occur, he still finds himself surprised when they slip right through and into the water. He pulls them back out quickly, shaking his hand to rid himself of some of the excess water. ]

... Huh. That's different.

c. following the distant stars
( forest — mid-may )

[ The forest has changed quite a bit since it first opened. It would be wrong to say that it's expanded, instead feeling as though some part that had previously locked off was suddenly accessible. It's likewise grown for dangerous, but progress and dreams alike both require a proportional amount of risk. So it is that he'll be going to the forest on and off throughout the middle of the month. He has no need for basic necessities such as food or sleep, but he'll be considerate enough of anyone who comes with him.

Of particular interest to him are the patches of winter and fall, pieces of the seasons split off from the rest of the forest and left for them to find. It's like having an entire world packed into one little space, with the differing climates to match, and if they could map out which areas remained at what temperature then wouldn't that be useful? For those which remain warmer it would be like having a little greenhouse, a place where flowers could be planted and bloom - he thinks of things like that.

That said, the shadow lurking around behind the trees in the distance is of some concern. He looks to his traveling companion, silently asking if they'd seen it too. ]

even beyond any shadow of the doubts that linger in the corners of his mind, he's always liked the stars. he's the defacto leader of the astronomy club again, too, few as it is now (komaeda's still just for numbers, whether he knows it or not) and so he's taken time to step up every now and then to look around at what the observatory offers. see if there's anyone who visits that he can angle into joining his club, be they native or not.

seeing ranger there is a surprise, but subaru won't chase him off; it's a place he'd call his turf, sure, but ranger's a friend. then and now.]

Eh~, not really for me. I don't mind helpin' out, but I'm not really someone who's into the limelight like that.

[even though he's clearly someone who'd always thrive off attention and being the loudest voice in the room. subaru'll take a seat across from ranger, hellooooo friend when he gets bored of watching you they can do crimes]

i heard a rumor.

[there's a lot of whispers flying around school. there's a lot of them that Helena hears, being so attuned to sounds around her. some seem utterly bizarre, and others feel like they have a note of truth to them...and those are the ones she wants to investigate, if possible. so it is that this month, she's in far more places, whether it be sitting with the teacups in the kitchen, finding a buddy to investigate the forest stairs, or trying to track down a fellow transfer to ask if they heard the verbal rumors about them. of course, one can't believe everything they hear. but it's interesting to see what might have a touch of truth in the middle of it.

of course, a certain rumor is one hundred percent absolutely false, no way no how, and an unfortunate person asking about it will be treated to the sight of Helena opening up a window on the second story and casually hopping out of it. or someone just sees her parkouring away from classes. that's a question she won't deign with an answer.]

deja vu, i've just been in this place before.

[things seem...too familiar. it leads to self doubt, to having to backtrack and try again to do something. but after the third or fourth attempt, it becomes noticeable. whether it's trying to find one's classroom, looking for books in the library, or working on her programming in club hours, Helena seems to be somewhat...caught in a loop. and she only is getting more distressed as time goes by, worry written clear across her features.

a simple remark, a passing word, is enough to break the trance. but with the school feeling like it is, it's all too easy to fall back into it.]

under the moon.

[some rumors have a grander effect than others, though. some bring changes that no one could have wanted or expected. the bears usually are supposed to stay clear of the campus itself, but there is one that has been spotted occasionally closer. small, for a bear, with red-brown fur - it keeps to itself, and seems almost cautious of where it is and where it's going. this bear shows up at different times during the month, but it is still very small, and seemingly harmless.

unless, of course, one is out during the evening of the full moon. then, something much, much larger is stalking through the underbrush, a bear with the same fur but every inch something more dangerous. padding around, it will hold little patience for those that want to shoo it away from where it has decided its territory is. teeth and claws, and an instinct to fight back.

and if you catch its eyes, they look strangely clouded...but surely that can't be too important.]

[ Ranger's heard the rumors floating about, but thus far he hasn't paid much mind to the majority of them. The majority of it seems to be about who's dating who, or who's attacking people in the hallway, and other equally mundane or over the top rumors. There are a few that have proven to be of interest of him, however, the misery cups being one of them. Not that he's been eager to try it (it's the opposite, actually,) but he can't seem to find anyone who can verify it.

Ah, well. There's no sense in worrying about. He's more concerned with the teapot on the counter before him, keeping an eye on the time to gauge when to take the leaves out. He leans on the counter, one arm resting on it, and glances glances over to where Helena is sitting. There's a pair of cute teacups set out.. ]

English breakfast okay?

[ He probably should have asked before he started it, but anyway, he has a second question to add, ]

... What's up with all the marriage rumors? I could see dating, 'cause kids are always worrying about stuff like that, but aren't they a little young to be worrying about getting hitched?

( bright lights and a room full of people, all seated in desks. emil opens his eyes, and at the front of the room is a stern sounding woman; just the sound of her voice is enough to put him on edge — bristling, looking around, and ultimately all-but jumping out of his seat to make a break for the door. he's not tied down, after all. they can't force him to stay here.

instead, he makes his way through he hallways. his steps are hurried, his expression is anxious. he pushes past the male students, shrinking away from any girls in his path as he makes his way down the hallways. at each door he stops — peeks inside, whether through windows or through opening it up a crack — only to continue on in his search when he doesn't seem to find what he's looking for. )

( traveling through the school like this, it doesn't take long for him to find the nurse's office. while he stays creeping around outside the room for a pretty long time — peering in, pacing, looking as if he's about to enter before having second thoughts — he won't actually go inside. in fact, it takes all of his courage to simply get one person's attention, waving his hand to call them over just around the corner from the office itself. it's only once they're safely out of sight that he continues, pointing in the general direction of the nurse's office as he does. )

That's a doctor's office, right...? I'm looking for a doctor — Her name is Ada, have you seen her?

[ it's not abnormal for dito to be around the nurse's office at all; both because of the occasional fun he tends to have in the room as well as the fact that his...employer (—? let's call him that) practically owns the room itself.

uneventful as it is today for a horror high school, dito's probably leaning on the heels of a chair and lamenting the fact that there isn't anything (or anyone) more fun around.

at least until he catches sight of this guy skulking around outside of the office. is his head bandaged, too? dito blinks at the other, wondering what his deal is. does he not want to be noticed by someone? idle curiosity is enough for him to lean up and out of his seat, following the other male around the corner with a raised brow. ]

Uh, yeah. But we've only got one doc, and it's not a "her".

[Metal Sonic, practical guy that he is, would normally be all about trying to immediately find a way out of his current predicament. Once he realised his presence in the school wasn't, in fact, perfectly Normal And Okay, he was immediately struck with the feeling of not knowing why or even when he was brought to this place, nor does he know why his body has changed from metal to flesh, but...

For the moment, he's a lot less motivated than normal. He's on the tail end of an existential crisis that almost saw his world be on the receiving end of his emotional turmoil and having that end abruptly and with nothing to show for it has put a damper on his usual enthusiasm. He explores the corridor at the end of the forest stairs the same way someone might move when they realised they took a wrong turn in an unfamiliar building, idly tossing his eyes at the odd door as he passes.

At one point, he actually reaches out to open one of them and is met face to face with a pack of mermaids, giving him alluring looks and beckoning gestures.]

"Why, hello there, why don't you-"

[And he shuts the door.

He doesn't even know whether or not they're dangerous, he's just rude.]

[He hadn't been the most curious person regarding his possessions, but when Metal does make an effort and retrieves what's inside of his locker, he's surprised to find that the PDA from which he attempts to retrieve his locker combination already has a message on it.]

Given his emotional state, it immediately makes him feel as if he's being toyed with. He might have lost everything, but he still has his pride. He can't stomach the idea of someone toying with him.

So if you're nearby, you might see him drop his PDA to the floor. Looks like he's about to stomp the shit out of it with his foot, too. Might want to stop him depending on how willing you are to help out a stranger.]

(ooc: Metal has been humanized! Even if my PB is eva rei he is male, although definitely androgynous, and only about 5ft tall. He's from the ending of sonic heroes when he collapses just before Omega retrieves him and despite his canon point, I'm playing him mute just because I think being mute always suited him more than Drummond's voice in Heroes tbh)

Except, not oh well. At the same time you may feel pain, the important thing is that close-by, Bonnie's feeling it all the same. Slamming her hand against a wall, she grimaces and swears under her breath, before snarling a bit, casting a piercing, hateful glare at the other. ]

ii. into the woods, yet again

a. [ This just feels right to her.

For the most part, Bonnie spent most of her time in the woods back home-- after all, that's where Darkstalkers would hide out and make their move once they saw the poor "defenseless" human by herself, ready to be devoured. Which naturally, would end bloodily for the monster involved. Oh, the fond memories she had!

That simply meant that it'd be a shame if she didn't investigate what was going on, to the extent that she could! As she moves along, she does make many stops to check out some of the wildlife and the flora. It was a good idea to get a feel for the place, if she'd have to come out to gather meat or materials later. Whatever was mutated here, Midori'd be able to make it taste good! She's sure of that.

[ The rumors that may circulate around Bonnie Hood were mostly minor. She was a monster in disguise, she could snap at any moment, that for all of her talk about "anti-bullying", she was a gigantic bully herself... all lies, of course. She was the sweetest little girl in the world! How could she be seen as someone so mean?

She'd even taken the time to contribute to the local economy, buying one of those neat little journals that were on sale! It'd been a long time coming, given how she'd have to keep tabs on everyone that she comes across. Weaknesses, abilities, how they pissed her off in class, how some thought she was so big and bad before she knocked some sense into them...

For now, she spots you and, provided you don't move out of the way, she gets a running start to deliver a leaping hug! ]

[ Ranger freezes up when he feels arms around him, accompanied by a cheerful voice in his ears. His time here has softened him enough that he doesn't have the same kneejerk reaction that he once did, but it's still uncomfortable for him to be touched by anyone save for a select few people. He fidgets and after a few seconds he'll try to squirm out of it. ]

Sure, good to see you too... You need something?

[ It's not like he dislikes her. They're friendly enough, albeit the word "friend" never quite occurs to him with anyone, and she's been nice enough to "talk" to a few people who have troubled him in the past (a couple times even without payment, which is rather impressive in and of itself... Though that may just be because she tends to get anything he's not in need of, which is something of value more often than not.)

Either way, there's nothing malicious about the question. Others approaching him is just one more thing that he's struggled to adjust to. ]

( the butterfly teacups are... new. but especially pretty! the thing is... nene carries a lot of things on her shoulders, and even if unintended, the teacup takes it all with just as much greed. it's both a slow trickle and a raging flood and almost immediately nene goes from starting dinner to sitting in a chair looking... pretty not okay, actually. one would be forgiven for assuming she's sick. again. but that teacup sure is full and... it smells bitter, that's for certain. )
