MINI-EVENT DISCUSSION TIME [open]

WHEN: April 25th, 6PM
WHAT: Who wants to talk about ~murder~?

[There's a strong part of Kokichi that wants to keep everything he's figured out to himself, especially knowing the "winner" of this mystery will gain a ton of bonus points that could throw a serious wrench into his plans. He tends to work alone, after all.

But fortunately, there's a louder, more pragmatic part that knows everyone needs to come together. Whatever the game is here, no rules have been given. It doesn't seem like they're gonna force everyone together to figure things out. And maybe that's the point – no forced teamwork this time around, a prize to discourage people from working together. This whole setup seems designed to have them all working against each other.

Well, fuck that. The status quo is just gonna get more people killed. It's time to herd some cats and get everyone on the same page. If nothing else, it's a way to learn anything others might have figured out, and a chance to see who here has a working brain.]

[Every transfer student will find an unsigned note in their lockers that reads "transfer students meeting @ 6pm 4/25 in classroom 2-C".

When they arrive at the set location and time, they'll find extra desks have been shoved in from other classrooms so there's seating for everyone. On the chalkboard, written in big bubble letters, is "SUPER FUN MURDER DISCUSSION PARTY TIME!!" with some goofy doodles around the edges. This is very serious, guys. One corner of the room has a square taped off on the floor with a single desk situated inside it, a sign taped to it reading "Crazy Containment Zone". A piece of paper on the desk says "reserved for Komaeda".

No one takes credit for organizing everything. But regardless, it's time to have a discussion.]

It was pretty easy to put two and two together after learning that Stephanie lost her knife after meeting with Hiro, got it back a few days later, and has refused to talk about what happened to it.

So I just decided to talk to him.

Or, er. "Talk," as much as he does talk.

[Ritsuka triumphantly holds up a note with a lot of writing scribbled on it, and slams it onto one of the free tables.]

He was really cagey, but I'm pretty sure he's not our culprit. Hiro barely even read my response before asking me to double-check how she died, and he ran away right after.

I looked him in the eyes. There's no way he was lying.

If Hiro didn't even know how Okane died, even if he does have something to do with the crime, I don't think he's the murderer.

When he's done, he sighs and hands it off to whoever wants it next. Then he's going to take off his monocle to rub his temples. You kids make him tired.]

Ritsuka... thank you for going out of your way to talk to him, but was it really necessary to imply that the rest of us were plotting against him? No one has even mentioned Hiro's name until you arrived. At most, he was someone who may have been at the scene of the fire, and we just finished discussing how we needed to hear the suspect's side before taking any kind of action. You've probably terrified the poor kid.

...I admit, I'm really used to people automatically suspecting someone who I think is innocent of wrongdoing and doubling down when I try to convince them otherwise until I manage to stumble across hard evidence, so I legitimately thought that's what was going to happen.

Definitely my screwup there.

Jun, I know some of the most horrible murderers on the planet. They're my coworkers.

And I'm a murderer myself.

I have a sense for it, and I can say this with absolute certainty that Hiro is not our culprit. If you don't believe me, fine, but I'll fight tooth and nail to find a way to prove that he isn't.

Okay, putting aside all the problems with you just admitting you and your coworkers are murderers because we don't have time to unpack all that...

This isn't evidence. He didn't provide a testimony or an alibi that we can follow up on. This is you projecting your own biases and issues on the case to fit the narrative you want, and hoping tht's enough to serve as a character witness for a guy you barely know. Having a "sense" for murderers isn't good enough.

And what's worse, since you made it sound like all of us are out to get him, he'll be unwilling to cooperate with us whether he did it or not. Not to mention you made things harder for Stephanie.

You want to prove it? You'll have to do a lot better than this.

I mean, that's probably the right call anyways, but at the very least we're narrowing down our options of who we should be wary of.

If it isn't them and the culprit is doing this for us, doesn't that make the person you spoke to even more suspicious?

( a thoughtful hum as he taps his nails against the desk. )

[He knows exactly whose desk that is, but this is more fun. And he won't even ask why you're out of the CCZ. Isn't that generous of him?]

( he doesn't say a thing, keeping silent like he's up to something, but he does offer both a wave and a smile. don't get him wrong, he's only playing hard to talk because of previous discussion. that being said, he eyes focus between looking at kokichi and then looking back to the desk as if something new will appear in his view. it's always the same things, but he seems satisfied enough. )

Important OOC Note

Due to some OOC miscommunication on the mun's part, Ritsuka's involvement in this particular part of an investigation was a mistake and based on unintentionally infomodded information. As such, her involvement in the discussion will be considered noncanon, although threads resulting from her appearance can be considered canon at the players' discretion. I apologize for the miscommunication and the overall mess, and hope it hasn't caused too much of a headache.
