Winter. The Worst Season To Ever Exist. It's Cold And Wet And Gross, The Wind Goes Right Through You, And To Top It All Off, You Have To Watch Happy Couples Warm Each Other Up.

Fortunately, I Have Just The Thing To Help What Ails You. Let's Heat Things Up With A Debate, Shall We?

Every Food Can Either Be Categorized As A Soup, A Salad, Or A Sandwich. A Soup Is A Food Whose Liquid Content ("Soupiness") Is Deemed As "High". A Salad Is A Food Whose Liquid Content Is Deemed As Low ("Dressing"). A Sandwich Is Anything That Has What Could Feasibly Be Defined As Bread On Two Or More Sides.

Some Examples:
  • Pizza Is A Salad. The Liquid Ratio Is Almost None, Even In The Case Of The Greasiest Pizzas. While There Is Something That Can Be Defined As Bread ("The Crust"), It's Only On One Side. However, If You Fold A Pizza In Half, It Becomes A Sandwich.
  • Bread Bowl Soups Are Sandwiches. This Is Because It Functionally Has Bread On Two Or More Sides.
  • French Dip Sandwiches Are Soups, Despite Their Misleading Name. Dipping Them Into Au Jus Turns Them Incredibly Soggy, Leading To Their Classification.

Feel Free To Debate And Add Your Own Below. Just Don't Come To Blows Over This, Okay?

I figured that if we were going by liquidity, I'd think something made of water would count as a soup, that's all. If I made a soupy salad, that'd just throw off the rest of my lunch.

To your first statement, I would be inclined to agree with you there. What are your thoughts on beverages? Do they slot into their own category, or are they soups?

[ Sigh, if he has to play along. Although, he can't help but think it's a bit fun to think about. ]

Beverages technically aren't food. Some can be, like a high protein shake. That'd be a soup, I guess. Other than that, they're just that, beverages.

What do you define a food as, if I may ask?

Something substantial and filling. Moreover, something you'd have to ingest using a utensil instead of a glass.

I guess to put it one way, you'd typically have tomato soup with a spoon. On the other hand, you'd drink coffee by tilting the edge of a cup or coffee mug past your lips. It's not a concrete definition, but that's my distinction.

Alright, I think that's an agreeable rule.

What is your opinion on thick drinks, such as milkshakes? I would consider ice cream, which is a key ingredient, to be a salad. Would that make a milkshake a salad, or would you still slot it under a beverage?

That's down to consistency. If it's easy to use a straw, then it's a beverage. If it's thicker than that, then I'd have trouble ranking it any higher than soup.
