JANUARY EVENT LOG
00:00 01/01
✽ At the stoke of midnight, something shatters on the ground floor in front of the bulletin board, and the entire school goes dark: all electricity gets shut off, all flames are snuffed out, and the sky is heavily overcast to hide the moon and the stars. The only source of light are the suncatchers purchased from the student store, but even those fully charged will start to dim and go out over the next three days.
✽ Nene, Hinata, Noah, Amami, and Komaeda will smell something burning, and if they pull out their PDAs, it is hot to the touch and the casing is cracked, like something had blown from the inside, and their PDAs will not be working. For everybody else, the screen flickers when they press their thumb to their PDAs, and then goes dark again. ...
✽ If anybody was inside the main school building at midnight, I am so sorry, and for everybody else who enters the building afterwards, please watch your step. The appearance and atmosphere of the school has changed to that of the "void school" and can not be reverted upon breaking a mirror. Please refer to the aforementioned link for details about the school.
✽ As of midnight, no npcs can be found inside the school, including the library ghost, the gardener, and the cats. If a character were near an npc at midnight, it would appear as if they'd disappeared into the shadows the moment the world went dark.

??? whenever you guys solve the void
✽ 01/10 marks the beginning of the final semester, and when npc students and faculty will return to school. Of the ~260 npc students enrolled at the start of December, only ~40 npc students return to school, with the other three quarters having their names crossed off the class roster in the locker area. In light of the rapidly shrinking student body, homerooms will be consolidated by year, creating a single class for each of the first, second, and third years.
✽ The countdown in front of the bulletin board has reached zero, and the glass tube appears to have shattered and bled out onto the floor, to nobody's surprise. The mess will be cleaned up by the end of the week, and in its place is a notice for the school trip taking place next month. Please see the toplevel below for more details.
✽ The science lab is now open. Add will probably elbow people out of the way getting here, but he gets dibs on the anatomical model: it is warm to the touch, and rather than being made of plastic, the skin, muscle, bones, other organs feel very much real. He thinks they might be. The rest of the room is set up like a typical research lab, with all the basic chemicals and equipment: a refrigerator, liquid nitrogen storage tank, sonicator, incubator, autoclave, laminar flow cabinet, mass spectrometer, and a high performance liquid chromatography system.
✽ It snows on and off and the sky remains overcast with no sign of the sun all month.

OOC
✽ Please give the temporary locations page a thorough read! The most noticeable changes aside from the usual void school appearance is the scattered void, lack of electricity in both the school and the dorm, and the ability to walk off campus. The setting will remain as is until the characters figure out how to revert the change, or on 01/10, whichever comes first.
✽ PDAs will be inoperable until fixed. Tech-savvy characters may realize that the PDAs are powered through inductive charging, and the first step to getting them (also electrical appliances and hot water) to work again is to locate the generator.
✽ All npcs will be ICly unavailable until we unvoid the school.

[Satou had been planning to stay awake until midnight anyway. If this situation was so determined to make her miserable, then Satou would use equal determination to stay happy. That had meant throwing herself a lonely New Years' party, with every intent of cheering softly to herself at the stroke of midnight. Maybe making a New Years wish or something.
Instead, she's tossed into a state of alertness. Between the crash, the lights going out, and the sudden weather change, it is clear that something awful is happening. Satou cancels her own party and begins carefully checking between the rooms. After all, she sleeps in the school and was already here.
With every new room she visits, she calls out in a gentle voice;]
Hello? Anyone in here? You all good?
[Satou is trying to sound calm, but her pulse is racing. She has no magic. No weapons. How can she protect anyone if something goes wrong?]
(b) Exploring the School
[Throughout the next few days, Satou takes occasional breaks to explore the school. She's trying to get a feel for how many people are still there, so will pause to call out a greeting any time she sees movement or hears a voice. Cheerful in her demeanor, though fearful in her actions.]
Oh, hey there! You, uh... doing okay? It's spoooky here, huh?
(c) Wildcat
(Feel free to hit me up at
Taiyakinonaku for other prompts!)
A; also cw alcohol/underage drinking mentions.......
So naturally, she's up, wide awake. Sure, there's a creepiness of the late hours, of how no sound can be found from anything — honestly, it's enough to make someone almost go insane at times.
But she perseveres.
When she hears a voice, coupled with footsteps, she immediately startles, defensive for a moment before realizing just who it is.]
M-Mii... I'm here.
[In the 1-E classroom, in a corner away from the crumbling voided part. She's fine, but that part sure is not.]
no subject
[Satou is relieved to hear her voice. Perhaps it is unfair of her, but Satou has taken a special shining to Rika. She's around the same age that Sakura was before the pair were separated, after all. It has been many years since Satou indulged in the fantasy of being a reliable older sister...
So she slips that persona on as she begins navigating across the room.]
Thank goodness. I heard something go smash... Hm? [Though her tried to flip the switch for the room, the lights are off in this room too.] Could you hear it from here?
no subject
[In fact, it's downright strange that they're even managing to talk at all, really.]
Ah, be careful, Satou. This classroom is a little dangerous right now...
[She says that and still hasn't left; the careful observer. She had heard whispers about the void and had seen the black pit, but didn't know what it did, where it came from.
Curiosity killed the cat, as they say, and so when her own classroom had part of the void in it... she couldn't help herself, just a little.
In spite of how it could probably (possibly? maybe?) kill her.]
no subject
She slows her movements, keeping track of it from the corner of her eye. Will it spread more or has it stopped? How much more of the school is affected..?
Satou blinks hard and banishes those thoughts. Rika first. She can worry about everything else later.]
Mm, it is. I think we should leave for now... Is there anything that you need to take with you?
no subject
I agree.
[While her voice is serious, there's still that childish lilt to it, not bothering to switch into her other persona. Besides, she's Furude Rika here, a human girl; a first year in this high school. Not the witch.]
I'll grab my bag...
[The easy bake oven stays at her desk, however. If the void takes it, then that's that. She motions to do just that, putting the straps over her shoulders.]
I'm ready to go.

( they're exploring the school, but he's making requests out of the blue, and since today is number two, he finds that there's nothing wrong with asking. he claps his hands together with a smile, waiting for her to remember, and accept the agreement that they both made. )
no subject
Yes, I do... What about it?
[He does remember the state that the cooking room was in, right?]
no subject
( remember the potato that they found? it all starts with that. she doesn't have to take komaeda seriously, but half of it is important enough that he hopes she can catch on. )
no subject
[Satou is torn. On one hand, maybe her recent adventures into meal prep have actually been successful! Komaeda might actually be enjoying her cooking!
But she's also been told on numerous occasions that she's a kitchen menace.]
Um... What do we have to make a cake with? I don't think we can decorate one with potato pieces...
no subject
( he knows this for a fact, someone of the void variant wouldn't care about taste as long as it's edible.
komaeda can bake, but someone with more expertise would do better in that field, hence why he's sought out satou of all people. )
Ah, have you met him? He's about 2'3", anger issues, sulks if he doesn't get his way.

b!
Unfortunately, I've seen worse. [The ninth layer of hell is nothing to scoff at.] How are you faring?
no subject
[Satou sighs, looking up from her task--
and promptly falling on her butt. Those horns are scary and for a moment, she wonders if she has dropped into hell! Karma is so cruel..!]
Ah- W, wait... Excuse me. That was rude, uh um. [She scrambles to get back to her feet,] I'm doing great uh- Y, you?
no subject
It isn't a problem. Now, be careful where you fall — I'm sure you're not oblivious to the chunks missing in the world right now.
[It wouldn't do to have someone falling into a pit of death.]
Still, all of this is concerning. The void looks different from last I recall...
no subject
[Satou had been operating under the assumption that they were merely very nasty holes in the ground. That sounds a lot worse.
She doesn't immediately accept his help. It seems like she doesn't initially realize that it's an offer for her, even though she's the only one there. After being invisible for years, Satou isn't used to people being able to offer help at all.]
It's really expanded, huh? Whole parts of the school are gone now. I wonder why?
no subject
[He thinks he's being helpful. Maybe he is, even if it's a bit terrifyingly-stated. His hand is still offered, however, and he patiently waits for her to either stand on her own or accept his help.]
The latter, I cannot answer. I don't know why this happened in the first place, as I wasn't physically within the school when everything... transformed.

B
The whole place is a dump. We oughta just condemn it and tear it down.
[ It's unsettling for him, albeit for different reasons. It's been difficult enough to adjust to the school, but to be surrounded by filth like this for days was a bit much for an AI that's used to what were largely well-maintained and sanitary conditions. ]
Well, at least it doesn't look like anything's gonna pop out from the floorboards and start dragging people down.
[ Down beneath the floor, across over to the void, whatever horror story they might wish to recreate. ]
no subject
[Satou's gaze slips to her feet and a shudder runs down her back. She hadn't even imagined that kind of horror. Thanks, Ranger. She'll sleep great at night now.
She brushes her skirt free of dust and comb through her hair, distracting the horrors with vanity. Plus she'd like to look presentable for Ranger- She's determined to make him a friend and all.]
You have a wild imagination, Ranger-san. But if something did pop up, it would mean there were more floors, right? [Satou taps her foot on the floor,] When you have a problem, start at the foundation~ Maybe we need to go to the basement?
no subject
If I had to guess, I'd say whatever we're looking for is on either outside or underground.
[ Whether that be the roof or out front, but it seems unlikely that it would be hidden in an easily accessible place. ]
Supposedly there's no basement, but I mean, there's gotta be some hidden compartments in a place like this, don'tchya think?
[ Hidden entrances that led to passageways and rooms, there were all kinds of fun mysteries like that in stories. ]
no subject
[Ugh, what she would do to have her magic back right now. That would make this hunt so much easier. Her empathy can be very useful when navigating abandoned places like this older school dimension.]
The foundation in this case would be a basement level or... Where we started?
[So the place where the timer was? Or does she need to go all of the way back to the tree?]

It is... and, yeah - you're not the first person who's asked that, though.
no subject
[Satou lights up with a big grin, standing quickly in order to favor her friend... She's allowed to call Inaba a friend, right? The word seems so heavy and she's not sure that it's fair to force it on anyone here.]
Eheh. It's less spooky when I'm not alone, though! Are you looking for something? Can I help?
no subject
[She speaks a little bit dryly, but it's definitely in a half-joking manner.]
Well, nothing specific, to be honest... although survival gear would be good to look for right now.
no subject
That's true. I've been looking for anything that could keep us warm.
[And, well. There are a few other things that she's got her eyes peeled for. Like weapons or other tools to keep everyone safe.]
Somehow I don't think we'll find anything good to eat.

a!
Instead, two of the people that he's come to care about the most in this place are missing, one of them disappeared out of thin air, and Hinata's been tearing through the school looking for them desperately. So when he happens upon a room where he can hear a voice calling out, he's yanking open the door without a second thought and is already calling out.]
Keigo-?!
[He tries not to let it overwhelm him, but it's hard - the way his stomach swoops with disappointment when the person he finds is not who he'd hoped for. Hinata does his best to gather himself, though.]
Ah, sorry for bursting in here like that... My- [His brain stumbles here, trying to figure out the most appropriate word.] My friend went missing as soon as the school changed... [He leans against the doorframe, feeling a little strength leave him now that he knows neither of them are in here.] You haven't seen anyone around named Arata or Keigo, have you?
