✽ At the stoke of midnight, something shatters on the ground floor in front of the bulletin board, and the entire school goes dark: all electricity gets shut off, all flames are snuffed out, and the sky is heavily overcast to hide the moon and the stars. The only source of light are the suncatchers purchased from the student store, but even those fully charged will start to dim and go out over the next three days.
✽ Nene, Hinata, Noah, Amami, and Komaeda will smell something burning, and if they pull out their PDAs, it is hot to the touch and the casing is cracked, like something had blown from the inside, and their PDAs will not be working. For everybody else, the screen flickers when they press their thumb to their PDAs, and then goes dark again. ...
✽ If anybody was inside the main school building at midnight, I am so sorry, and for everybody else who enters the building afterwards, please watch your step. The appearance and atmosphere of the school has changed to that of the "void school" and can not be reverted upon breaking a mirror. Please refer to the aforementioned link for details about the school.
✽ As of midnight, no npcs can be found inside the school, including the library ghost, the gardener, and the cats. If a character were near an npc at midnight, it would appear as if they'd disappeared into the shadows the moment the world went dark.

??? whenever you guys solve the void

✽ 01/10 marks the beginning of the final semester, and when npc students and faculty will return to school. Of the ~260 npc students enrolled at the start of December, only ~40 npc students return to school, with the other three quarters having their names crossed off the class roster in the locker area. In light of the rapidly shrinking student body, homerooms will be consolidated by year, creating a single class for each of the first, second, and third years.
✽ The countdown in front of the bulletin board has reached zero, and the glass tube appears to have shattered and bled out onto the floor, to nobody's surprise. The mess will be cleaned up by the end of the week, and in its place is a notice for the school trip taking place next month. Please see the toplevel below for more details.
✽ The science lab is now open. Add will probably elbow people out of the way getting here, but he gets dibs on the anatomical model: it is warm to the touch, and rather than being made of plastic, the skin, muscle, bones, other organs feel very much real. He thinks they might be. The rest of the room is set up like a typical research lab, with all the basic chemicals and equipment: a refrigerator, liquid nitrogen storage tank, sonicator, incubator, autoclave, laminar flow cabinet, mass spectrometer, and a high performance liquid chromatography system.
✽ It snows on and off and the sky remains overcast with no sign of the sun all month.

✽ Please give the temporary locations page a thorough read! The most noticeable changes aside from the usual void school appearance is the scattered void, lack of electricity in both the school and the dorm, and the ability to walk off campus. The setting will remain as is until the characters figure out how to revert the change, or on 01/10, whichever comes first.
✽ PDAs will be inoperable until fixed. Tech-savvy characters may realize that the PDAs are powered through inductive charging, and the first step to getting them (also electrical appliances and hot water) to work again is to locate the generator.
✽ All npcs will be ICly unavailable until we unvoid the school.

it... is a lot worse off than the academy she'd been at not too long ago, and at the same time it reminds her so much of it that she can't be too frightened walking around; pausing here and there, taking care not to cross paths with any rats that might be lying in wait, she seems to be... drawing in a notebook. where did she get this, you may ask?

well, from the drawings of music notes in score-form across the front when she closes it, her name penned in the top corner, it's a personal one from her room.

every now and then kaede'll stop, open her notebook, and draw more; it becomes apparent she's doing something with the void, given she takes great care in checking out the school from top to bottom, so feel free to interrupt her.]

b. pianist's woe

[and of course her requisite piano prompt.

but kaede isn't playing this howevermanydays; she's taken some of the rotting wood from the workshop (splinters galore!) as well as some of the cleaning supplies from the dorms (dish soap and a cloth) to try and clean up the piano in the music room, because...

... to be honest, a task like this is gratifying. there's a need to return, but there's plenty of hands who're more than happy to investigate alongside her -- unlike the academy, kaede doesn't need to kick anyone's butt into gear. so this is her downtime activity, going over the keys and de-yellowing them. peeking into the innards of the piano and retuning them. the gentle tinkling of notes as she keys them by ear drift down the halls, discordant at times and harmonious at others, a black trash bag left at the side of the room for any broken bits and droppings.

notably, it's missing a piano bench now. there's a chair unceremoniously dragged from the library in its place. she has bruises from it.]

[There's a surprised sound when she passes by here, noticing that there are several things here: the first being the piano with its missing bench, but then more importantly--]

Kaede? Are you okay?

[kaede looks up from her work at the familiar noise, smiling brightly at the other. like her legs aren't bruised and honestly a little patched up however they can be from stomping through a wooden floor please don't mind]

Furade-san! I couldn't be better, actually -- Yashiro-san and I discovered that the piano has all of its strings, it just needs a little love and care to get back into shape! Isn't that great?

[She's definitely going to mind...

Although she does find herself blinking a bit at being called Furude-san; it's been a while since she's been called that, and most of those who call her by last name... well, they don't tend to be pleasant.]

That's good news. But you look like you hurt yourself.

[splinters... bruises... it's fine. they have bandages somewhere in the dorms for the former i'm sure with how accident prone the transfers are.]

It's just some... side-effects of investigation. Don't worry, it's nothing major -- I can still do my part to help out.

[The way Kaede says that they're just "side-effects from investigation" is even more worrying; it makes her brows furrow even more, her lips turned into a bit of a pout.]

Don't force yourself too much, Kaede.

It'd be very, very sad if you hurt yourself more than this.

[He says that, but it's not like he's been looking for her — in his surveying of the damage, he's simply stopped in to get a look at everything. The state of the piano is rather distressing, though, and so Lucifer tucks his little pocket notebook and pen away for the time being. He can take his hastily-scrawled notes later.

Kaede might notice that Lucifer's in a completely different form from normal, too, it's fine. He has to fly over the void patches, why would he do parkour when he has wings?]

Two sets of hands are better than one for that, don't you think?

he has wings (and horns? i don't remember if the horns come with this form). kaede isn't sure where to look, because it's startling but it's lucifer all the same, wow that name really did live up to itself.]

As long as it's not taking time from whatever you were doing, I wouldn't mind the extra help. I don't think it'll be much use to everyone as a whole, but... it's sad just to leave it this way, too.

[the one at the academy had been in perfect shape, just like the one in yogen proper; seeing this in such... disrepair makes her feel sad and lonely, as if the piano were herself.]

[Ishimaru's doing his own search of the school when he comes down a hallway and sees Kaede with her notebook.]

Ah, Akamatsu-kun! It is good to see you!

[Good to see that she's alive and well, if otherwise not happy with these circumstances.]

...What exactly are you doing, might I ask?

[oh, ishimaru! she brightens up with a smile, opening her notebook to show off her rough diagrams of the school -- she's working her way around from one side to another, but she's at least managed the ground floor in its entirety. second floor is... interesting she feels so bad for amami's classroom. it's just gone.]

The same to you, Ishimaru-kun! I don't know if it'll be any help or not, but... I thought I'd map out the school as it is now, those drops to nowhere included. This place really does feel big when there's no one inside it.

[break had already proven that, but... this side of things is different even from that. a lot quieter, the world holdings its breath.]

Well done, Akamatsu-kun! That is quite the splendid idea. It should prove to be quite helpful, considering the state of this school!

[He pulls back and looks around at their surroundings.]

I may not have had the foresight to work on a map, but I have been generally exploring the school and trying to ascertain the lay of the land. I should truly take notes on some of the unusual or noteworthy features, at the very least!

Well, what can you recall that you've seen? I'll add it to my notes here -- two pairs of eyes are better than one, so I'd definitely like the help.

I will gladly lend you my assistance! Working together does seem to be the perfect way to tackle this situation, after all. I cannot see anything lacking in what you've drawn out so far. I do know of some other rooms that have been lost to the void from checking the other floors. One of them is the student council room itself! The right wing of the fourth floor also appears to be almost completely consumed by it. Please steer clear of that area!

not necessarily because he's— okay, yeah, he's a little bit scared. jumping from void-ledge to void-ledge like that isn't something he's against doing himself, but watching it from an outsider's perspective? now that looks precarious, and it's kaede no less. he opens his mouth. he closes his mouth. he waits for kaede to reach a steadier-looking chunk of ground before he calls out to her. )

Akamatsu-san, you okay over there?

[good call, because the sharp turn she does to look at him would've ended up with her foot off a safety square and straight into the darkness of the void, a future amami has no trouble imagining. as it stands, she is on a good bit of solid ground, and gives him a bright smile.]

Yup! I was a little nervous at first, but this is actually sort of fun. Oh, but I'm not hopping around just for fun or anything...

[...! wait, amami'll be a good person for this, being the ultimate adventurer.]

It's for a little project of mine, and you're exactly the person I need the help of, Amami-kun. I'll be right over.

[let her just hopscotch over. there's a couple islands between them, not all steady, but she seems careful enough in starting to make her way over. don't look so worried.]

Right now, I'm making a map to help everyone out -- to see how different it is from the other school, since anyone who's been here for a while is gonna know the differences, and I thought maybe you'd be able to help me out.

( he's still watching her feet as she makes every hop. those words she's saying, they don't really register for him, between his hearing and his anxiety at the uncertain patterns she needs to follow to make it over to him. that's probably his saving grace, really— paying so little attention to her words, so much to her leaps, he's quick to see when she hasn't quite got the momentum she needs. his body is moving before he can even think about it. )

( he's already throwing himself forward, and it's a blessing to find that the nearest connection to him was near a wall. he doesn't know what he'd have done otherwise.

as things stand, he throws one arm across a doorway — curved, bending a little as the void begins to eat away at the corner of the frame that dips into the floor — and the other reaches desperately for kaede, attempting to take her arm, her hand, anything at all in his before she falls. with the doorframe as leverage to keep him on his ledge, he's praying he can keep her from falling in. )

( nene saw how strained she looked when they'd been investigating. so when kaede wanders back, nene follows. and maybe accidentally spooks kaede because she forgets to announce herself and can't really say anything at the moment to help with that. but once she gets kaede's attention, she points at the soapy cloth and then rolls up her sleeves- she's here to help! )

( but then she nods and grabs a cloth to get to work. it's clear that she's a little unsure about how much pressure to apply however- she's never worked with instruments in this manner. )

[Hinata's relieved to see Akamatsu, because every familiar face he sees is a face that hasn't disappeared. That's still safe. But when he sees her writing in that back, that relief... it doesn't disappear - it would never - but it gets put on the backburner for a moment while baffled confusion takes the forefront.

When he speaks, his voice is colored with disbelief... but only past the strain there, hoarse like he's been yelling or crying a lot. Maybe both.]

Akamatsu... I'm glad you're okay, but you aren't actually composing something at a time like this, are you?

it gets a concerned look from kaede herself, but she shakes her head and holds up the book for him to see -- there's a rough of the current school's layout on it, not close to being done but it has dark spots denoting holes where it drops to nothing nonetheless.]

I wish... I've never tried composing before, but I'm sure it'd be a little less tedious than this is. But it's fun in its own way!

A small current of relief runs through him at that, interest taking place of his confusion - even if worry goes hand in hand with it, because that's... a lot of holes in the school.]

I'd love to hear you play it if you did. [Even if Hinata's still in shock from the last time Akamatsu played.] This is really good, though. Right now it might even be indispensable, considering how many of these dark patches there are.

[If they can save somebody from falling in, that's already huge. Otsukare, Akamatsu!]

I'm... [He hesitates to say it, because the only time he's felt less alright is probably when Saihara died. But he's physically alright, at least, so Hinata can manage a half-lie.] Yeah, I'm alright. Just wanting to try and get to the bottom of all this.
