( on february 2, transfer students will find that there are notes hung up around the dormitory with doctor's scrawl handwriting that a few people might recognize scribbled across it. it reads: )
TRANSFER MEETING
february 2, 5:00 p.m.
dorm common room
( the early-arrivers will find that amami is already set up in the common room, making himself comfortable on the far side of one of the couches with a sketchbook, but beyond a wave and a smile he won't offer much to speak of. it's only once it looks like there's a good handful of people that he'll glance around, grimace a bit, and speak up. )
So... I'm sure you guys already know why we're here, right?
( rest in piss, hiro. legend almost took two transfer students with him on his way. )
I know I might not be the person anyone wants to hear this from, but I figure everyone's had some time to gather evidence and any witnesses we might've had by now. I don't like the idea of this continuing more than anyone else, and if we want to keep it from happening again, it's probably best if we compile what we know.
( and unfortunately what he knows is nothing, because he was busy getting stabbed, so the floor is officially open. )
(ICly, this meeting begins on February 1. However, to keep us from trapping ourselves in another time cube, when things start to slow down, Amami will pitch that they regroup in a couple days. The details don't matter so much, but you can assume they'll come back for more discussion intermittently if anything new comes to light before Disney. This doesn't all have to be in one day! Feel free to PM/ping me anywhere if you'd like me to add any other helpful links. )

He's here for whichever one makes sense. Either way, he does. ]
... Settle down.
[ He has no stake in this, but panicking is practically an accusation of guilt when you've got a cute little vigilante justice system like this. They're like a group of piranhas, complete with eating their own. ]
The more worked up you get, the more people are gonna sink their fangs into you.
no subject
Sorry. And thanks, I'll remember that.

If it wasn't you, then you just need to figure out who it was, right? Why don't we just look at everything from the top so you can see what was missed?
[ Because that seems more useful than screaming about who did and didn't do something. ]
no subject
That's easier said than done, Rio-chan~. I only guess right on stuff, see? I'm not some great detective or anything like that, I get too caught on one thing and then can't see the rest.
[it's happened before, and it'll always happen. it's a bad habit he can't break.]
But um, I sorta have to try a little harder than normal. It's true I could've held Macchi up, but I couldn't have hammered her there. I knew both of 'em, but I'd throw myself in the way of danger before I ever hurt a friend -- even if I can kill someone, I wouldn't wanna unless I absolutely had to.
[to defend himself, to defend someone else...]
But that's off track, um. Should we start from Hiroppi, or Macchi...?

It's fine. I think I've got an idea... Hm, why don't we try just focusing on one thing at a time then. You can think of it as like a puzzle. You just put down one piece then another, right? Anyway, I think you'd be more straightforward about it.
[ Which is to say, he either didn't work alone, or he suddenly got a Hell of a lot craftier. He holds up one finger. ]
Right. We'll start with the first one, but let's throw out the details for a second... The Vice Principal received a note from Maya asking to discuss something. However it happened, they both died. One fell to their death after being lit on fire, the other was nailed to a ceiling.
[ He holds up a second finger. ]
Then Hiro receives a note asking to discuss something concerning Maya's death, and is thrown in the freezer.
[ He lets his hand drop down. ]
When you cut out all the unnecessary details, do you see any connections?
[ What patterns are there? What do they have in common? ]

There's a lot of notes involved? No one's really like, directly saying anything to the other person.
[notes... that's the most obvious when laid out.]

Yeppers. There's a lot of invitations flying around this place, aren't there? Let's pretend for a sec that Kouji isn't mailing us any letters for fun here, since I see the kiddos are tossing that idea around.
[ He places his hand on the crook of his elbow. He taps his arm with his index finger. ]
So, let's go with that for now, and now tell me: Did Maya write the note to the Vice Principal?
no subject
[...
most of that's just character testimony, though, but he definitely believes it.]
I think she was probably dead by then, anyway. Um, if she wasn't bleeding much from the nails and all.
no subject
Yeah, probably. It'd have to be around the same time at least... 'Kay, so let's pretend she never touched that note like you said. That should be easy to prove one way or another, right?
[ He tilts his head to one side. Is the cat in the box alive or dead? Did Maya write the letter, or didn't she? The only way to find out is by opening the box. ]
... We can prove it the same way they were able to "prove" that "Subaru wrote the letter found in the fireplace," right?
no subject
[which was the damning thing, handwriting aside. it's probably possible to frame with them, he thinks, going by helena and shin's convo, but definitely not as easy as handwriting alone.]
no subject
[ For as direct and pointed he tends to be, Ranger's a little gentler here, a little more encouraging. He caught on fast enough. It picks up immediately after, a touch of irritation working its way in as he considers what a haughty, argumentative bunch they are, ]
...So, why don't you try telling the peanut gallery to start with that mystery?
[ After all, if Maya didn't write her note, and Kouji didn't write his note, then Subaru...? ]
With stuff like this, you gotta learn to look at what's missing too. Think of it as like checking your blind spots.

It's only once it came to someone that they could get the fingerprints of that they mattered any -- not like, for a lack of trying, but in general. And that only happened after me and some others'd given ours.
[and given that miyuki hadn't had a known reason to interact with hiro until it'd gotten brought up this meeting... subaru, who knew both the twins and was already on the hot seat, must've been a pretty easy pick.]
Nothing in Macchi's case really had 'em, either, so it's really just been this one. Jeez, who woulda thought that me tryin' to clear my name would've just ended up like this?
no subject
Ranger nods in agreement. It didn't seem as though anyone cared at the start. The only item that was paid attention to was the hammer, which had been wiped clean, and a couple other miscellaneous items. That was all well and good, but at this point they're missing the forest to see the trees. ]
It's a hassle, right? But you know, you can always make them apologize later.
[ His tone suggests that they should, if only because he thinks this to be quite simple. ]
Give it a shot. See if you can get those kids to confirm if Maya actually wrote the letter... I'm sure they can figure out how to get her fingerprints, that one's not my problem. If that's strange, then maybe they can bunk their heads together and find something strange with the rest of 'em... Either way, they've got more important things to worry about than harassing you for an alibi.
[ What a waste of time when none of them really have one. ]
no subject
he's so lucky to have people who can believe in him, who want to help out.]
Heheh~. Thanks, Rio-chan. ♪ I think I get what Maddy was tryin' to tell me too, in that way of his~.
