it's so goddamn ugly, and dito's going to have a lot more fun with it than he would a dog he's quickly realizing as he feels his heart skip a beat.
what he's not okay with is the lights flicking off and on all of a sudden, and dito's eyes break from the creature as he turns his head around to see who is doing it.
of course it's midori. ]
Hey, I kind of need to see the damn thing—
[ he doesn't even really get to finish bitching properly, because midori's gone and irritated it into moving more toward them. dito and his attention whip back around to the creature in question, and he takes a step back away from it almost as if he's sizing it up now that it's closer. if he has its attention, he's going to grip his spear with both hands now, pointing it at the thing in an attempt to dissuade it from getting any closer. can it even see? he thinks it's a bit annoying it doesn't have a head. he wanted to impale it there first.
he's not really paying attention to midori's time limit here, but he does want to get to the fun part, so he's going to go ahead and rush it, attempting to drive his spear dead center into the stump of where a head's supposed to be. it's got organs down there still, right? dito hopes so. ]
no subject
[ Bonnie honestly thought it was more of the monster messing with the lights, but of course it was Midori. You're lucky she's fond of you, because boy was that both annoying and terrible on the eyes!
Speaking of, the creature looks like it's advancing... unfortunately, not towards her. Any movement she had made towards her cloak stopped, and instead she changed it to a fist pump! ]
Go, go Dito! You can do it!
no subject
If you could, checking the furniture nearby may have some hidden secrets (oooooor maybe the west passage!!!)!
If not, do push them behind the creature's legs when it's too focused on Dito, he is fond of prey laying on their backs! ☆
[ he would add that if it's needed that burning dito's neck until he crouches to avoid a swing if he's too greedy is fine, but that would probably cause more trouble than it's worth. as soon as ranger makes his way next to him, midori is putting away his pda back into his suit pocket.
assessing the situation, he keeps a cool head despite infuriating the monster. it'd be boring if it was too easy, so dito better thank him for that— this gets the blood pumping, so it should spray even more when he stabs his spear into it.
with his voice low, he points down the south corridor for them to check out first. his eyes migrate to ranger's to make sure he understands. ]
We'll go that way. [ with his colleague, midori will proceed walking forward as dito (and bonnie?) handle the threat in the center of the lower level. they'll be fine. ] I gave Miss Bonnie something to do, so she won't just be moral support.
no subject
Off they go, not down a yellow brick road, but into another dark room that could have anything at all behind it! Maybe even another monster, but he doesn't think so. Dito seems to have gotten the monster that's always hidden in the shadows. It would just get boring if they were hiding in every single room. ]
Yep, sounds like they got a handle on it. Let's see, what's behind door number one here~
[ He'll push open the door once they reach it and grope around along the wall until he finds the switch. Hiyori has had his lightswitch privileges revoked. ]
chestmouth monster
If he didn't have its full attention before, he does now. ]

great, great. perfect, actually. dito wants to split those ugly fucking arms open and see how much they bleed, honestly.
his pupils dilate as he suddenly attempts to shove his boot straight against the creature's disgusting excuse of where a face is supposed to be. right where his spear's impaled, obviously wanting to pull his weapon out.
even as he directly notices that the thing is fighting back, and yes — he's using any momentum from his foot to push off the creature, jerking himself and his weapon away from it. it's not a perfect avoid per se (especially given the extra seconds it takes for him to yank his spear out), but dito's realizing he doesn't have the luxury of messing around here as he backs off for a second, trying to gauge this thing's attack level. ]
Fucking hell—
[ he's bitching. of course he's bitching. that's what he's good at. but he's still kind of excited here, so there's that. he's actually smiling while he's bitching this time.
at least it bleeds. dito wants more of that blood, he thinks, as he rotates his spear in his hands. ]
C'mon, c'mon, c'mon...
[ he sounds unnecessarily enthusiastic about this right now. ]
no subject
She's transfixed, but unfortunately, that's just going to make her feel sad!
Bonnie finally pulls out the PDA, getting a good glimpse at Midori's instructions. Checking some of the furniture out, hm? Well, if Dito has everything handled here, then that wouldn't be a terrible idea. If he doesn't, that just means she'd have to stay alert. ]
Okie! ♥ I'll give you a buzz if I find anything good, or if Dito gets his head chomped off. Whichever one's first!
[ With that show of faith stored away, it's time to get a glimpse of some of these couches... or at least, at what could be under them. It wouldn't take much for her to move any of them after all, even if she may scratch up the floor beneath it. Time to check for secrets! ]
roll: 6
From watching its movements thus far, Dito might be able to garner that it's powerful, sturdy, and has a high pain tolerance; however, these features all seem to be intended to compensate for the fact that its massive and disproportional physique make it slow and clumsy when compared to a seasoned fighter. It has spatial awareness despite its lack of eyes and ears, but it seems to act almost purely on instinct, swinging its arms out and snapping jaws that have far too many sets of razor sharp teeth.
But it's at least smart enough to know how to use the materials around it, as rather than immediately approach, it'll grab a nearby sofa with its massive hand to fling it at Dito.
There is nothing beneath the sofas, nor is there an obvious passageway. However, a section of the wall hidden behind one of them does seem to be a bit different than the rest . There's a slight different in coloration, and if she were to tap along the area she would find it to be hollow, and from there she can probably guess that there's something hidden behind it. ]
no subject
[ Nothing underneath. So, they're not going down any further it seems! It would've made for a good trap for the creature if they needed it, but Dito's got it, right? He'll dodge that sofa. Probably.
Bonnie won't know unless he yells loudly, since she's now focused on that wall. It was a little too obvious that the section was different, and it doesn't take her long to go right up to it. A secret passageway'd be fun enough for her, and while it probably wasn't a good idea to split up even further... oh well!
She gives the wall a bit of a knock, searching for a sweet spot... and provided she can't find a latch or something to get the wall to open, she's not going to have to resort to straight up kicking down the wall. ]
no subject
flipped a coin...............
Mmm, she really should stick around to see how this ends. Yet again, he's no use to anybody dead.
On the other hand. ]
Hey! I'll be back, try not to die, okay? ♪
[ Efficiency indeed. Midori did ask her to search for hidden secrets, and this is as hidden and secret as it gets! So, it's time to check behind the wall. ]
west room
It will open easily with one of the keys that she was given earlier, and opens to reveal a large ante chamber. The room is as dark at the hallway. It's hard to tell in the relative darkness if it's empty or if the furniture is simply hidden, but what can be seen is the sparkling green gemstone hidden in the very back of the room. ]
no subject
Once she's at the door, it takes her a second to find the keys from before... and once she's in, she looks around. Augh, there has to be some kind of light switch here as well--
Except, that's immediately ignored.
What isn't is the gem that's waiting at the back of the room, glimmering, nearly calling out to her. ]
Ohh?! How beautiful!
[ It's a present just for her! Time to press on towards that gem then, traps be damned. ]

[ dito mutters, especially as the blood spurts around and its chest stretches like a goddamn wound. it kind of interests dito honestly, the way it moves to viscerally without any real discernment.
oh, dito wants to cut into it so much more.
he's got a high pain tolerance, too.
there's a toothy, wide-mouthed grin from dito at this point as he backs off, pulling his spear out as he considers where to stab it next.
— he's not expecting the sofa, though. ]
Shit.
[ dito mutters as he attempts a dodge, ducking to the side and out of the way of the sofa but still really, really focused on the monster at hand.
a little too much, maybe, because he doesn't care what bonnie's doing at this point (even though he gives her a pointed glance, because really?), and he's going to fucking do that 20 minutes challenge. he can kill it, he thinks. he doesn't know what his motivation is here though, aside from simply being peeved by all the others right now.
yeah, that'll do it.
and the fact that he's not liking this thing. ]
Hey, ugly—
[ he's so set on that. and he's shallow.
he rolls his shoulder, positioning his spear forward again. ]
Come at me for real.
[ he's going to stand there a second to gauge its position, far more interested in its own movements than its furniture. midori's gone ranger's gone bonnie's gone...it's fine!!!!!! ]
roll: 11
It's mouth opens and closes causing teeth to clack together, massive chest rising and falling as though it were breathing. It's not very intelligent, but it has just enough of a mind to recognize that a person should not be able to stab it, nor to dodge a sofa. It crashes into the staircase behind him, the resulting bang mixing with the sound of wood cracking and splintering, the cushions falling to the ground behind it.
It pays no mind to its gaping wound as it rushes forward, quick relative to its size but far slower than a person such as Dito, swinging one massive arm out, long fingers reaching in what appears to be an effort to get a hold on some part of him, or at least to slam into him hard enough to throw him off balance (or clear across the room.) ]
roll: 1 i am in shambles
y'know, to avoid getting injured too bad. possibly killed. that wouldn't be good. he thinks he's handled worse, but he usually isn't by himself... it's not like he can summon a damn angel in here, either.
so he attempts to circle a bit, not moving closer or further and still keeping that grip tight on his spear aimed at the creature. when it rushes, he thinks that the fingers are pretty gross; he definitely wants to avoid those.
he can stab through the arm, but he doesn't really want to be knocked off his feet if the arm keeps going regardless. he decides he should move in closer to the creature where the arm will miss but he can still impale it at the base of its arm, near wherever it's head is supposed to fucking be.
that's when he rushes forward—
—only to feel something off-level beneath his heel, eyes widening in surprise.
he trips on his own pda he'd kicked aside earlier, falling right on his back and elbows hitting the floor in his last ditch effort to keep his head from hitting the floor. at the cost of losing the grip on his spear. he can hear it clanging against the floor nearby. ]
Fuck.
[ he practically hisses the curse out, already moving to get his ass up as his heart rate rapidly picks up. ]
no subject
[ now what is this, walking in with dito on the floor playing damsel in distress causes midori to stare as if he's been mocked by dito's ability. the monster is supposed to be dealt with, dead, and organs splattered all over the floor.
instead, it's still running rampant.
he takes a slow breath, closing his eyes, and he glances down by his foot where the spear had slid to.
picking it up, he doesn't even spare a glance to ranger. ]

south room
There is a large grandfather clock in the back. The clock is not ticking. The remainder of the area is decorated with a variety of bisque dolls in different outfits ranging from simple school uniforms to elegant dresses. On each side is a life-sized doll sitting in an expensive looking chair. It all looks fairly luxurious, too much so to sync up with the setting presented within the school. ]
no subject
[ he mumbles gently as they enter the room, it piques his curiosity, but he keeps his guard up due to the monster they've already met. wouldn't it be funny if some floating head monster with eyes suddenly appeared because the creature lacked just that? it wouldn't be humorous to midori nor ranger, rather it would just annoy the shit out of them both being in the way. luckily for them, the room appears to be straightforward with the eyes for decorations and puppets, giving them so much to inspect. they could check the eyes, or look at the dangling puppets to see if there's anything interesting about them or the life-sized dolls that sit like king and queen. ]
This room seems pretty forgiving.
[ they just have to mind their step and what they touch, don't they? for the grandfather clock, he pulls out the set of keys before looking down at them, and then up at the face of it as the hands play as whiskers, unless it doesn't have any. ]
Alright, there's a theme here if we start with the clock! Interested?
[ he's running the idea by ranger just so they're on the same page, there's nothing wrong with that. ]
no subject
Yeah, well, it's gotta compensate for the creepy factor somehow. Who do you think decided to start a doll collection and lock 'em all up?
[ Not that it matters. It seems unlikely that anyone did, really, as this entire place seems far too off for that to be the case. It's like an amalgamation of different themes and ideas, none of which fit together as nicely as he'd like. Still, it does seem straightforward enough. ]
Sure, sure... Let's fix father time. Maybe it's practice for fixing the big guy.
[ Since the clock tower itself has come to a sudden halt. ]

[ the souls as they know it would return to the wisteria and be reborn after a few months still applies doesn't it? what about those who have only appeared once, never to return? that would mean they still rest within the tree even now. what about before the tree came into existence when it was but a sprout, what housed souls then...? midori could think of millions upon millions of theories, but they won't know unless they check what's in the room. at least there's no danger, and he's confident enough to cross the distance between father time with ranger alongside him.
once they meet face to face, he notes the whiskers, he appears pleased that something is wrong, it would have been tedious if it was perfectly working. ]
A winding key could set this back in motion! Disassembling doesn't sound too out of the ordinary, if we remove the hood first, we can see the mechanism of how it ticks!
[ with that said, he's already lifting up one hand to grab at the hood, wiggling it from left to right to see if it'll even want to come off. most grandfather clocks around this area feels sticky as if it doesn't want to come off, but it takes a bit of hand movement to be successful. ]
roll: 5
This happens five times before reaching the end. Nothing has happened so far, aside from the creeping feeling of being watched intensifying to the point of being suffocating, but there's only one way to find out what happens at six or more.
It's a beautiful mahogany clock, one which comes complete with a moon phase dial, and the hood will come open with a little wiggling. A closer inspection will reveal that there are three holes that a winding key might be stuck in. Looking down, it does seem that it hasn't been wound in some time, as all three weights have sunk to the bottom. Unfortunately, none of the keys they collected before are a winding key, so they'll have to figure something else out. ]
no subject
The feeling of being watched is unsettling, and he's not a fan of the way some of the tiles had depressed either - that reminds him of the gimmicks they might have added to some of the attractions. It makes the room feel suffocating, and he fidgets a little as he inspects the clock and tries to piece everything together. It still feels like they're missing something important. If the bastard weren't so cagey they probably wouldn't be here. ]
Hmm.. None of the keys we found were winding keys though. You think it's hiding somewhere else?
no subject
[ and that's a shame that none of these keys work, there was a key lodged inside the one clock but that wasn't coming out no matter how much he pulled it. that key might not even work for the grandfather clock before them, so they'll have to find another way to adjust the time. placing the hood back, he spins the keys around his index finger before accepting them as useless before slipping them into his pocket. there's a vibration at that moment which he pulls out his pda instead, reading what's written, and slips it back where he got that as well. ]
Miss Bonnie will tell us if she finds anything in the décor.
[ who knows, maybe she'll stumble upon what they need.
which admits that she's not going to stick around for the fight, and that's for dito to handle since he's thrilled from it. though, it seems none of them are truly alone at this moment. between the monster outside, and the lingering sensation of eyes watching them, it's not enough to spike midori's paranoia. instead, he thrives off the attention, it's only a shame that they don't know where they're being watched from and that stepping on the wrong tiles (or maybe the right...?) had something to do with it.
once again, he scans the tiles, looking at which colors had sunk in, and what others nearby keep the shape of a normal floor. ]
The rest of this room can't be ignored. [ because it's focused on them, unsettling as it is. midori's normally the person who keeps his eye on everything and everyone. ] There's a life-sized doll on both sides, we can split and check for clues. If they mirror one another, or if they're familiar.
[ wouldn't it be funny, but probably not. either way, they'll have to inspect them since the clock has nothing for them at the moment. ]
