( it starts out small. a need for comfort food, and a need for something heartfelt but silly and fun, something genuine and kind. ... and, well, she did find a weird. bootleg vhs set of her favorite movie series, hamster space wars. but the dorm is only barely furnished- and it's not like they can just go out and buy a tv or anything. honestly she completely doubts there's even anything beyond the woods. but she remembers a teacher playing the thing and other stuff in the first month of all of this. 

it's so long ago...

but there's a television and a vhs player in the school. and nene... nene's tired and sad and is currently out of fucks to give, so at some point in the day, after everyone else has left, nene has returned to the school and, uh. "borrowed" both things. it's fine. they just have to get it back in by sunday evening. don't worry about it. like, it's definitely heavy but she's a tough cookie who tills soil and everything, and also sara and noah both witnessed everything and are accomplices by default, so they had to help carry things too. 

(they were completely happy to help on both accounts, she asked very nicely.) 

so the "borrowed" television is set up across from one of the larger couches, and the vhs on top of it. she had cookies in the oven, donuts and hot chocolate made and popcorn popped. the common room paintings are covered with sheets of cloth. all that was left was something cozy- but at this point, nene's made so many little cushions and blankets and even cozy pjs that that's super easy. all that was left was letting anyone who wanted to come know too. so at some point in the halls, nene walks down calling out: )

Cartoons in the common room! Bring blankets and stuff! 

( and, so everyone knows what their characters are getting into: hamster space wars is a movie series about different factions of hamsters that have been trying for cross planetary peace for ages now, with a villainous faction having sabotaged the final negotiations so they can control the war from the shadows to make the most money and also get the most seeds (Very Decadent). the first movie follows the main hamster and his little group trying to escape the villains after having witnessed the sabotage, and are trying to avoid assassination and end the war for good. the sequels follow allied factions, with hamster galactic wars being the Thrilling Conclusion. 

it's heartfelt. it's silly. it's very cute. nene loves it. )

[If you're not quick enough you might find your intended cushions and blankets disappearing into the pile around this guy. The balance of being embarrassed by this has tipped in favor of being very, very warm. You can't judge him, he has the blanket high ground.

He's never been at a sleepover before (being asked about who he likes while trying to crack a password at 3am does not count) and honestly would probably have mentally before physically ditched it, but, well, Nene's worked hard on this and... somehow acquired a tv. So he's here, in the corner with his hot chocolate, and getting more invested in the events on screen than he expected to because once a Gundam nerd, always a Gundam nerd.]

Using both seeds and money? Shouldn't they have made them the same thing?

[He's that guy who will either comment on every little thing in a movie while you're trying to watch or who will get annoyed at you for commenting on every little thing in a movie while he's trying to watch.]

[He did not expect A Cat Suddenly but his lap is where she lives now. He is trapped here forever. The champion of warmness in Yogen has been graced by selection. Looks like she has a new favorite (for now), Komaeda :' )

He will pet her, if she allows it! And may possibly have to attempt to rescue the dangling tasseled end of his scarf at some point, depending how much interest she takes in it.]

[Hi Nene! He will happily accept the donut, and try not to get crumbs on Lily May, which probably requires an interesting spinal contortion. He's starting to feel a bit bad getting food from Nene all the time... maybe he should get better at cooking enough to return the favor.]

Can't they just buy the seeds with the money, then? ...I guess if it's that much of a luxury good... bit of a weird writing choice, though.

[(It's because it's About Hamsters, Shin). This is nice though; just chatting back and forth about a movie. He takes another bite of donut as the hamsters discuss their next options.]

This is actually a movie series from home! It's my favorite. And the seeds are a vital good! Not only are they a prime source of food, they make more food! And all kinds of other stuff! Seeds are a big deal in the hamster space war universe.

( honestly though she doesn't mind. taking care of people... it. it helps. a lot. almost as much as just spending time watching a movie with a friend. )

[In this they are united... he's gonna make a small shuffle, as much as one can with a cat, as an implicit invitation to sit next, if she wants. Even if she doesn't mind... he'd like to do what he can.]

Enough to start wars over them... Wait, it's a series? [Okay, he can get behind that as worldbuilding, actually. They're still on the first movie at this point probably and he's already hooked, you've got him Nene.] How many are there?

[ She was helping everyone get settled while you hogged all the blankets...tch. He really is a leech upon society. ]

They're betraying eachother for it, Sou! Castor and Pollux! Love and death and seeds...and... [ She furrows her brow. Wait a second. He's right, thats way to many things for this movie to focus on! ] I mean, I guess maybe they could have combined them. Seeds should just be a commercial good, why do they need to control both separately? Is it like oil?

[ They finally got to see that movie, and they spend it like this. ]

[H-hey now... he has his own apartment... he's gainfully employed... or he did and was at least. The only person hiring here is Npc-kun.]

Either that or it's like drugs... [SHIN, NO.] It's a bad sign if they're that valuable. Don't get any ideas, Sara.

[You can take the death game contestants out of the trial room but you can't take the trial room out of the death game contestants, it seems.]

[ They are also in this pile. A second intruder! When Shin gathered all the blankets, he just sort of inadvertantly got Crona in here. Now they're mimicking Lily May. ]

[That's! Not a cat! How did he not notice... He physically double takes, which means the true Lily May on his lap might give him the Claws of Displeasure at the disturbance.

That pink hair... they're the dart thrower that's under Komaeda's thumb. (Like you aren't also, Shin.) He's very still.]

Stop moving, you're going to squash me! I can't deal with a bunch of blankets and pillows and you on top of me, I wouldn't be able to breath and then I'd see a bunch of black spots!

[ It's okay Shin its impossible to be further under his thumb then Crona is. They live there. ]

I'm not used to animals, so I'm trying to understand them. Cats are kind of scary.

[Congratulations Crona you've managed to make all of Shin's systems lock up and produce only question marks. He doesn't know how to deal with this either... what do they mean he'll squish them. Why are they purring like a cat to understand it. What is going on.]

I'll let you take the cat with you if you leave. [He says, like Lily May wouldn't have objections to being moved from this Nice Warm Spot and that he wouldn't be ground zero for them. You can be the Cat Monarch, Crona just let him survive.]

[hello she goes to do truth or dare and finds hers gone in the Comfort Singularity...it's him, though, so she's not super upset about it. she'll just ask, but if the answer is no, she's yanking one free.]

[At this point he might be starting to doze off a bit... his warmth hubris has been coming back to bite him in several ways. The answer isn't no, but the tugging after a period of silence probably wakes him up.]

Helena...?

[You can practically see the stages of his brain coming back online as he blinks. He sits up and shifts a bit so that she can get the corner of it out from under him... he was starting to slide a little.]

Can't really stop you...

[That's basically his, yes, you may have one of the blankets. Possibly a cushion as well. The privileges of being allies...]

[she can hear the tiredness in his voice, and once she has the blanket and pillows, she tries to pat it all back into place.]

If you're not getting enough rest again, I'm going to start worrying, you know?

[He hums noncommittally as she reconstructs the pile. He's picked that up from Komaeda which means he hates the fact it's now permanently stuck on his personality like a burr but it is useful. He could say no but he didn't... in his experience a lot of the time people don't listen to it either.]

Ahaha... Shouldn't I be the one worrying about that? It's just some all-nighters... I'll be fine.

[When he can't sleep he might as well explore the school... or try to secretly do homework out of sight of Sara. But also there's just... a deepening of bone-deep exhaustion. On balance he's actually been sleeping more but it's increasingly broken and scattered. Which is a problem now that it's not summer break anymore.]

[ Sara's fallen victim to an unfortunate dare and arrives in front of Sou with a grimace. ]

It was really pathetic that you couldn't open that cabinet on the first floor.

[Given when he's incredibly focused on something you can straight up come up from behind and knock him out... yeah Komaeda swipes it. :' )

He's been cleaned out of merits thanks to gacha, Komaeda already knows his name, and everything in his locker's been moved to his dorm room... but you can see he's struggling to manage a passing grade in classes, what with the stress, coming into the school year late, and habitually falling asleep in class and having to crib notes from Helena but at least the only F is in PE. I guess if you scroll back to before he 'woke up' his grades are better? Doing well in math, language and science, average in history, economics and his music elective and...... still an F in PE. Some things just don't change it seems.

He's still paying attention to the screen, although there's already a subconscious prickle of something being wrong.]
