Because why else would I have died? It had to have been something I did. I got myself into trouble, and nobody could get me out.

Dying isn't ever your own fault. Things happen— you could get hit by a car, or mugged on the streets, or get really sick, and it's not karmic retribution for something you did.

[ Times like these are what remind him that he's at odds with a literal child, because only a child would believe that, if they live life as a good person, no harm would come to them. ]

The fourth floor... [he can't mean the normal side, with the classrooms. there was another half, wasn't there? they couldn't access it before. that must have changed. and that's where they found his memories.

if the elevator has a button for the fourth floor, she's pressing it.]

[ There sure is a button to the fourth floor, and he stands up when she presses it and the car starts to ascend, making it harder to push off his knees and pull himself up with the handrail and reach past Stephanie's head to press the button to the second floor so he can get off first. ]
