[subaru has brought some pudding to the library today. he heard from natsume that haruka likes pudding, and he wants to befriend the tiny ghost girl he knows runs this place. this is not a bribe.

... he'll just peek down the aisles for her, since he knows ghosts are more or less visible this late into the month.]

Harupyon~? Hello~? My name's Subaru, and I'm Natsume's best friend. I've got pudding!

[food really is the way to your npcs hearts. she cannot eat pudding but it's fine, you put out food for dead people as a show of respect; the souls of the food is what eaten or whatever.]

[ It's not exactly her name, so the little ghost girl doesn't recognize immediately that she's being sought out, looking up only when Subaru mentions pudding and then she's at his side immediately. ]

No food or drink is allowed in the library!

[ There are only TWO unspoken library rules, come on ]

it's a tiny girl. oh. she is so six. lucky this bowl of pudding is wrapped.]

Sorry! It's for you though, so I dunno where to put it. Do you have a shrine or anything like that? Where people put offerings.

A shrine...

[ That makes her sound more like a goddess than a little ghost girl. ]

Nobody remembers me. So there's nobody to build a shrine, or leave offerings.

[oh my god............... he's gonna punch natsume..............]

I'll build you one! A family shrine's pretty simple to make, and I've had one to reference in my house for a good decade now. [...] Would you mind if I did?

[ She brightens up immediately, practically beaming at the prospect of a shrine. ]

Can you really!?

[ Ooooooohh, she doesn't even care if it's a cardboard box or if people tossed candy wrappers inside, it'll still be a little place for people to come and acknowledge her existence outside of missing fingernails. ]

I can, I can! I'll just need some time in the workshop upstairs, that's all~. You wanna come up with me, or do you want it to be more of a surprise?

[cause he has questions to ask her if it's the latter to be honest]

I want to come with you! I want to watch!

[ Stay here or be with someone? The choice is obvious ]

[ghosts... are lonely ☆ he gets it, he's gonna visit her like every other day before school even once he can't see her anymore and leave little gifts at the shrine he's gonna make her.]

[he... does not know if ghosts can hold hands! but he's so used to offering them when he goes anywhere now that haruka's getting his free one]

[ Ghosts... are lonely. There is no npc here that is actually not lonely, but being a rarely seen ghost is at least an obvious reason why Haruka is so eager to come up to Subaru and take his pinky, which immediately goes ice cold when she wraps her fingers around his one.

She's going to tug him towards the stairs instead of the elevator, though. It's something she's never seen before in her life and she doesn't quite trust something that can move on its own. ]

[the pinky chill is something he expects, since she's a ghost, but it still surprises him a little; the tug catches him more, but he doesn't have an issue with the stairs at all... he's a jock ☆

but he will ask her about something as they go up the stairs.]

Has anyone tried picking you up, Harupyon? I don't mind carrying you if you want a free ride.

Not since I died... It won't be very comfy for you.

[ There's still that glance up at him like she can't hide her eagerness, and if he picks her up she'll let that happen instead of ghost-phasing through him. But also if he's going to sit her on his shoulders or something he'd better have high tolerance for brain freeze. ]

I have a higher body temperature than most people, so I don't mind.

[he'd pick her up, but honestly piggyback is probably better... so she can freeze his back.]

What's your favorite color?

[ Hmmmmm... okay! It'll be his choice how he wants to carry her, though if it's piggyback she keeps her hands on his shoulders instead of wrapped around his chest, wary of her presence being too much because that's how it always is. ]

I like red! And yellow, and pink...

[ Warm sunset colors... It's hard to choose just one. ]

[UGH mood... everyone tells subaru he's too much and to stop touching them because he's too hot... they can balance each out. she's welcome to his back. he can support her with one arm]

You've got taste! I like sunflowers and daisies myself~. Did you know that every flower has a meaning? Natsume knows 'em well, but I looked up a couple of them myself once.

Ooh... What do tulips mean? Do you know that one?

Uh... If I remember right, it's something good~.

But sunflowers are for happiness, and daisies are for friendship! That's why you make bracelets and crowns and stuff with them~.

[ It's something good... is good enough for Haruka, honestly. ]

Can I have sunflowers on my shrine?

[ Not daisies... she wouldn't know if anybody would consider her a friend. ]

Sure! Sunflowers and honeysuckles and daisies... Colored just the way you'd like 'em, and we'll spruce it up with some more official looking things...

Oh, do you have a picture of yourself somewhere?

[adsum]

[ All the flowers are going to be pink and yellow, and maybe they can stick some spider lilies around for the red to make up for the lack of red paint. ]

No, I don't think so... Is that important?

[ No yearbooks, and she hardly looks old enough to be a properly enrolled student here, and any pictures they try to talk posthumously won't show. ]

[oh, that'd be pretty... subaru'll have to bring over fresh ones every now and then to make sure they're vibrant until he gets around to asking someone how to dry them out for better preservation.]

It's used to tell people who's shrine it is, so I think as long as we've got something that people're gonna know represents you we'll be fine.

[hmmm... no pictures...]

Harupyon, Harupyon... We'll make a little carving with your name in it or something.

[he can probably do that much, engraving into a piece of wood-wise. the rest of the shrine'll be easy to piece together as a simple thing after all!!!]

Ooh, that's pretty unique~. Most girls your age just use hiragana.

[or katakana... like his... he'll be happy to carve it for her though!!!! cannot wait for him to see these kanji and think how terrible it was to make a six year old having to write these kanji for her name.]

That sure is a nice name, though... Your parents must've wanted you to always to shine brightly and warm everyone around you~.
