Hi there, everybody.
Even though there's a tendency to post a lot on these devices, there are times when you need to go to someone for advice.
Lest you never find answers, of course.
Please understand that this is just a silly little post just asking a single question: how do you define friendship?

Plus, I still have to look out for the younger students who may be looking for guidance.
[ That's what the counselor is for, but also, no. ]
Back to the definition for a second.
In addition to the convenience aspect, there's also friendship through adversity. The shared experience can draw people even closer together, though that may fall more under 'confidant'.
I don't think I need to tell you about that, though.

Of all things, though... I wonder if that's what the school wants.
Seriously, it's kind of a pain in the ass, though, this place.
Somehow it is how it is.
Once you form a human connection, you can't go back. And in a place like this
Safety in numbers is important... although I'm honestly a hypocrite about that.
Sad, isn't it?
Of course it is.
Similarly enough, though... there is a stark difference between true friendship and acquaintances.
So I think, anyway. It's
Only obvious.
Somehow. But I understand that. Friendship through adversity, that is.

...hey-- ]
Why would I be interested in anything like that?
Honestly, I just want to ensure that the rest of the students here are safe after all.
Everyone deserves at least that, don't you agree?
Really, that's the kind of thing I signed up for in the first place.
Everybody's safety.
All of that said, I kind of get it. It's kinda dangerous to get closer to anyone at any point without leaving yourself open.
Rejection, heartbreak, betrayal, it's not easy to deal with.
Everyone knows that.
You think so?
Obviously, one could see the differences, but it's also pretty blurry when you think about it.
Ultimately, I don't think it's easy to define friendship in a universal matter. It means a lot of things.

Of course the safety of others is important, though. Prevention is, too.
Me, though? I'm not so optimistic.
Everyone knows that by now, though.
Really.
Only an idiot would think otherwise.
Openhearted people have it a bit luckier, though...
Maybe if I was like that, friendship would be easier.

Everything seems bleak right now, but that's the point of a new school year: a new beginning.
Then again,
How we carry ourselves going forward now that we have a general idea of how the school operates will be important.
Even though there are some mysteries that we still have to figure out... well.
Ready or not, we're stuck in this together for the long run.
Everyone has to deal with this somehow.
Simply put, I don't want to see anyone get hurt.
Or killed, for that matter.
Oh, that's kinda getting off-topic, isn't it?
Never mind.
[ yup. ]
no subject
That's true.
However, we'll figure it out.
Although it might be difficult...
Nothing needs to be left unsolved.
Knowledge is power or something like that.
Still, don't worry too much. I'm sure all the answers will come in time.

Inaba? Are you in here?

[She's actually kind of sitting in a corner of the room and while her voice is loud as she calls out, it's also sounding a bit hoarse and sounding rather exhausted.]
no subject
What's up? I'm here to help.
[ Not knowing what it is she needs help with, although he can probably guess. ]
no subject
[...]
And it's not like I can go to the nurse's office anymore without feeling uncomfortable, either.
no subject
[ He wouldn't be surprised at this point... ]
If that's the case, I can always help you to the dorms' common room. [ A beat. ] If you want, that is. I imagine all you need is some time to sleep.
no subject
[...]
It's no good, either. If I wanted to sleep in the dorms, I would have gotten a dorm room by now. Sorry, I'm being... troublesome.
no subject
...oh, right. ]
What about the student council room? I could lend you the key for a moment.
no subject
You're okay with that?
[There's a strange sense of hope in her voice.]
no subject
[ Maybe? If he explains the reason why, it should be okay. ]
Just as long as you return it when you're done. [ A beat. ] And of course, you don't leak any of our plans.
no subject
[Give her a moment, she's trying very hard to actually compute this as a whole before she squeaks out in surprise.]
Excuse me? What do you mean by that?! Are you saying you trust someone like me not to spill student council secrets? I mean, a bunch of people probably already looked at a lot of the stuff because of the student council murders but still...! Isn't that crazy?!
no subject
Sorry. Shirogane might be laughing just a little bit. ]
It was a joke, Inaba.
[ Linger on that for a second... ]
But, to answer your question, of course I do.
1 / 2
[Her tired, addled mind doesn't process things as quickly, and while she's relieved that being with another person doesn't make it worse, it doesn't necessarily make it better. And when Inaba's exhausted, she automatically defaults to being defensive.]
no subject
What the hell?
He can't just say that!!]
T-That has to be another joke, right? Like-- 'haha, you're on some prank sitcom' or something like that. I mean. There's no real reason to genuinely trust me in such a way!
no subject
[ He knows what he's getting into if he starts talking about this, so he starts fishing around in his pockets for the key. Still, her reaction's kinda surprising. It could mostly be down to her current drowsy state, but it's still something rare.
Hm. ]
I'll ask this. Is there a real reason I shouldn't?
no subject
[For a good length of time she doesn't say anything. Maybe it's because she's trying to catch herself, trying to shake the exhaustion off her mind.]
Why trust someone who doesn't trust anyone else?
[She answers his question with another one of her own.]
no subject
Someone like that isn't necessarily untrustworthy themselves. Of course, there are probably bad guys out there who don't trust because they're quick to betray whoever they come across. On the other hand, some are just afraid of being betrayed themselves.
[ Opening up to anyone, that's terrifying enough. But doing that just for them to let you down, it's downright awful. ]
Either way-- whether or not you trust me is irrelevant. I'm willing to take this chance so that you don't overdo it again. You're no use to yourself if you can't even think straight.
no subject
[She tiredly complains with a deep frown, laughing with shaking shoulders. But he's right about one thing.
Being afraid of being betrayed...
...that's something that she's dealt with practically all her life.]
I wish things were different.
[Those words are spoken a lot more weakly than she'd like to admit.]
no subject
[ Not on the same wavelength, but this entire experience has been different enough from what he's dealt with in the past.
There are some he's less inclined to trust, for sure. But they typically go out of their way to be a bother.
An obtuse message, and hesitance towards accepting someone's kindness... doesn't seem untrustworthy to Miyuki.
It's something he's used to. ]
Anyway, I'll walk you to the room. I'd feel better if I knew you made it alright.
no subject
[...]
This... reminds me of something that happened a long time ago.
[She says that aloud, fingers fumbling with the magatama on her necklace.]
