No. Do you only do things that are guaranteed?

[ They don't. It doesn't matter to them. It's stupid and naïve but they have to at least try. And it's easy to turn to the impossible when you've exhausted all other option. ]

Life outside of this school, I cannot see, lad. But the students in the school are constantly changing, surely you must be aware.

[ Like, outside of our mini-events, people die here and there in the background. It's just not made a spectacle of, and almost all of the npc faces are plain and generic, easy to fade into the background and if they're replaced by somebody else, who can tell?

There are always 300 students in the school. ]

[ Maybe you do what you want, but also want to know somebody's opinion, doesn't mean you have to agree with them...

What a question, though. Why do they like Subaru? Why him, when they've grown to like a lot of people, but what makes him different, special?

Doesn't really matter, they suppose. It's not something that needs to be justified. ]

Because he makes me smile, and always comes to see me, and goes out of his way to show me new things, and he gives reaaaaally good hugs and makes the dark not so scary and when I'm with him it feels like we're the only two people in the world and just being around him makes me feel super warm!

Are you saying everyone else around you lacks that?

( it's one thing, but aren't they all things npckun has mentioned that other people have given them, which doesn't make subaru anywhere close to being special. komaeda may be a romantic, and while he doesn't understand love properly, he does have this warped idea of it, and so him the definition here doesn't bring about a compelling relationship. it's not like he's on subaru's side, he's just a little more serious about it as he stares at the paper to connect their dots.

It's all physical, you know? That means nothing when the body can corrode, can waste... can lose feeling, can no longer move, will you no longer care when that happens...

Akki looks down at the bag of candy and nudges the pieces inside with a finger so he can see. What candy was popular in the 1990s... Warheads that I would give to my brother because those made me cry, and Jolly Ranchers in which the only good flavor were the green ones. ]

You shouldn't spoil him with all of them... but I think one or two of the sour ones he'll like.

...I wouldn't call it spoiling, hm.

( he'll watch to see what rokkun's doing now, and if it's even worth it. does he want akki as back up? or should he leave him here. )

Lay your head down so he can't see you, if I go over there... my luck might ruin his hard work...

( whisper, whisper, as he places the leash under the table that they're sitting at and then komaeda talks louder. )

Rokkun? Can you come here?

Rokkun looks over and sees Komaeda and somebody asleep(? dead?) sitting across from him like is this supposed to hide anybody ]

Uh... Sure.

[commences]

( THE WAY HE DOESN'T KNOW WHAT AKKI LOOKS LIKE???? rokkun... tf is wrong with you. )

Halloween is soon.

( starts putting papers on akki's head to hide him a little more, i'm crying... just bear with him. )

This is practice: tell me trick or treat.

[ "now" but not before... npckun thinks back on how they talked about their brother and it was only ever that he was 1) dead, and 2) loved. One is a simple fact and the other was all good things, so comparing the two wouldn't be fair. ]

...It's okay if you don't want to talk about it. There's plenty I never want to talk about. I think sharing the things you want to share is fine.

[ It's the back of his head??? All those npcs look the same from behind. This guy's definitely dead, though, if Komaeda's covering him up like how you pull a sheet over a corpse. ]

Trick or treat?

( STOPPPP NOT THEY ALL LOOK THE SAME i'm sick. akki's pretty good at this dead thing, and komaeda picks up two jolly ranchers to hold out to rokkun.

he smiles very softly. )

I'll treat you this time... here you go.

( take them and go back to your desk, and stop looking angry. )

[it's fair enough to subaru, who's two things about his dad have been 1) busy and 2) loved, the first a simple fact and the rest good things. subaru wonders how to put it, then, his small desire...

... maybe just saying it outright is fine, since he's the same way about sharing laws anyway.]

I want you to ask me about stuff, though, even if I might not answer. I want you to want to learn about me as much as I want to learn about you, Keigo.

[so even if it isn't about "before" or anything like that... he wants keigo to be curious about things relating to him, even the things subaru doesn't want to talk about -- subaru's curious about more details on things keigo doesn't want to talk about too, after all, even if he won't ask.]

I like him! I feel like he would be very easy to get along with, if we'd gotten the time to know each other better. You know how he gives you that look like he knows something about you but doesn't want to say it?

[ It's an "I know who you are" look, the look a lot of npcs tend to give other characters ]

[ Rokkun holds his hand out for Komaeda to give him the candy, stares down at them... decides playing pretend is over and places the candy on top of dead Akki's head. ]

Did you really have to practice that? It's just going to be everybody at the dorms on Halloween, isn't it?

[commences]

I'm glad you liked him, he is an Ultimate so everyone should love him! Knowing that, I feel even better about bringing his gorinto to our room when they go up.

( because komaeda wants them, and that's how he copes, but saihara was very important... sure, komaeda stabbed himself just to willingly subject saihara to his person and everything, but that's how twisted obsession and love works. )

I wouldn't call him shy, but he only says things when they truly matter or it's the truth... But his hope died out...

( from big smile to small frown. ) ...Maybe he'll come back one day, maybe if I...

( "stab myself, force some sort of truama on my body..." ) Hm... hm...~ ~

Do you not want it? Don't waste the things I give you.

( pick that back up mister, he didn't give that to you to just throw on top of akki's head... how can he be a menace to him already, he doesn't even know who he is!?!? )

...Maybe, have you decided what you're going to dress up as?

( oh akki, i'm so sorry... it must be awkward to have to play dead and listen to rokkun and komaeda talk, and komaeda actually is trying to cut their conversation short, but... i'm sorry akki. )

[ It's... yeah, a lot of stuff she isn't familiar with, so that she's able to follow along with Natsume's exposition but without the full appreciation it likely deserves. It's kind of impressive, though she'll never say it, that he's involved in something like this. Less impressive is a headset when she was imagining machinery from wall to wall, but it must be more that meets they eye if she's to sit down on the chair for this instead of walking around the room and bumping into desks. ]

...Sakasaki, why are you a magician?

[ Instead of a virtual reality... designer? programmer? whatever his part of it was, it's something he clearly loves and is proud of, eager to share the experience with others. ]

[ Huh? Oh, uh. They look surprised when Komaeda cups their face but their expression brightens up immediately being told they're loved. H-O-P-E-whatever ]

[commences]

No...no! Say you love hope! That's what we're talking about.

( smooshes their face now... smoosh smoosh... hope hope! )

Only hope.

[ Kindness and wisdom don't mean anything if you eat your students. It really is nice that Subaru would rather judge the person sitting before him today, than whatever he might have been in the past. ]

...That was a terrible, heart-rendering incident. But one that had happened after my retirement.
