Freedom from WHAT, I wonDER... Well ( glancing around a bit, ) I wouldn't blame him for wanting it from HERE, but to escape the trials and tribulations of this cycle you'd have to achieve something very few people DO.

( Putting graduation all the way to the side there, like, enlightenment and escaping reincarnation and all is so narrow. You'd never know if you did either; the soul ceases to exist after it ascends, after all. )

Who did he make the first promise WITH?

[ sighs at how Hiro can speak but he's only ever done so twice and I have to keep playing charades. At least some of these are easy, like the answer to this last question which is a big shrug ]

Natsume pauses, and he thinks about just trying to brush it off like he tried with Subaru—but that hadn't worked, and Hiro'd been honest with him as far as he knows. His grip on his chopsticks tightens a bit, and while the smile that returns to his face isn't a genuine one, it's the one Hiro gets treated to all the same. )

What about IT? If she mentioned it to YOU, then I assume you're aware of what's going on with it and why it's like THAT.

[ He understands why, technically, but not why— and it's that second why that has him concerned, eyes downcast for a moment while figuring out how to phrase it, but then he raises his hands in his best Hanako impression, like this

I may have been hasty in giving it UP, ( he admits quietly, gaze dropping down, ) but I thought it would HELP. And so FAR, it... For the purpose I had traded it FOR, and what I received in reTURN, it hasn't been particularly SO.

It hasn't been all BAD. There's a ghost that haunts the libraRY, Haruka-chan--she's been ecstatic that someone new can see HER, can talk to HER. The way her face lights up alone makes this trade worth IT. Then there's the gardener; he's not exactly a friendly spiRIT, and I'm sure there's a reason he's kept out of the school ( he has his suspicions, beginning and ending with knowing kazuki's..... yeah. ) but he's been wonderful to talk to, TOO.

And I suppose Hanako-kun is fine eNOUGH.

( As long as Natsume's not hurting Nene's feelings or flirting with her to tease her. He looks up again, briefly, then back down. )

Yet I'm no closer to my goal despite having traded one sight for anoTHER. I suppose I'm not as grown up as I thought I was--only a child sees something that might help and doesn't stop to think of how to utilize IT. They simply consider if it's worth the cost and decides yes or NO.

[ There's no sense of recognition when he hears Haruka's name, but he does look a little nervous at the mention of the gardener.

But, for what it's worth, he taps the outside of his wrist like one would with a watch— "give it some time"— and then does a little fistpump, as if to cheer Natsume on. ]

[ He holds up two fingers, then points at his eyes and shakes his head. He knows the gardener is a spirit, but he can't see him. It doesn't really factor much into his Yogen experience, though, seeing as he and Maya go home well before dark and wouldn't be around to get eaten anyways. ]

( Well, he's not the only one who can't see him, so that's fair.

Is Sato-chan afraid of GHOSTS?

[ He sort of shrugs, and nods, at the same time, uncertain. In the way of "I don't know, but maybe?" It would largely depend on context, he thinks, and he looks up at Natsume with a tilt of the head for him to explain a little further ]

If she's NOT, and you want a friendly ghost to chat WITH, the one in the library is always looking for new FRIENDS. Séances aren't so difficult to do eiTHER.

( Natsume's idea of a good time is to teach Hiro dangerous things, like magic circles and talking to the dead, I guess. )

...She's like a little sister to ME, and she gets lonely very easiLY, so it'd be nice if she could have a few more people who acknowledge her exisTENCE. I suppose it's a selfish of me to bring it up to you THOUGH.

[ "friendly" and "ghost" aren't often words you'd see together, and Hiro doubts his ability to be a good conversationalist by any stretch of the word ...but his expression does soften when Natsume says that she's like a sister, because that, at least, is something he understands. A sibling who gets lonely easily, who isn't the best at standing out or getting along with others, but nothing would make you happier than if they were to make friends and find some happiness themselves.

He shakes his head at the off-hand comment about selfishness, and holds his hand flat in line with his brow, asking how they would see her ]

( haruka's like six she can carry a conversation all on her own, children are incredible.

natsume smiles, half thinking of joking they could make a deal like him but, well. nao has lost enough because of him, and he wouldn't joke about that with hiro. )

[ YEAH I love children so much, you ask them a question and they light up because they get to talk about themselves and their opinions

( Natsume nods, though he can only get one per month so I guess Nao and Hiro will have to end up sharing off of one for a month at least. )

The little shopkeeper sells them at the STORE, so I'll just buy some for you TWO. It's no problem at ALL.

( little shopkeeper thinking natsume has something against them aside but a paying customer is a paying customer! )

[ He gives one to Nao and she goes around holding it to her eye the entire time in case it was a ghost that stabbed her and then she walks into a doorframe bc she's not paying attention to the real world

But also, Hiro rubs his fingers together in a gesture like fanning out money: the things are expensive??? Like, you don't need to bonus point purchase things given to an npc but on principle he knows that shop is a tourist trap ]

Hiro makes a little bit of a face— just a little one— but only because he's aware of what makes that amount money around here in a short amount of time. ]

...I don't like killing peoPLE. Only one of these I got willingLY, from what I reCALL, and that one was out of necessiTY.

( Maybe his first two had them, too. Maybe the state his items came in, the places he found them, is a hint towards it. He spent enough time dwelling on those, though. )

I'd especially never do it for money eiTHER, not when I have perfectly legitimate ways of getting THAT.
