Your own plan is to slaughter, but they'll just go to the tree... the obvious choice would be getting rid of it, but the Gardener will kill if he learns. ( probably. ) That... and it seems too easy. Signing one's life away is an idea.

Besides the other president's? No. There's usually some sort of privacy clause that's only void when you're dead.

[ Want to know Maya's or Keigo's contracts? Kill them. ]

( komaeda looks to rokkun as if he's obviously fucking with him, considering komaeda already killed one contract holder. )

Say I signed my life away when I die, but if I don't die... naturally to the contracts standards... would I be free?

Uhh... That depends on the contract holder, I guess? Who are you making contracts with?

...The same person you did.

( whoever is giving contracts around here, but komaeda doesn't add a name to that person because he doesn't know. he doesn't make it seem that way, though. )

You want to become president?

[ Doesn't offer a name either, but that's the flavor of contract he had, same as Maya. Keigo, not so much ]

Maybe staff... maybe president...

( he walks away, hands moving here and there as he speaks before he shrugs. )

I'll take any contract. Which one should I try for?

No, Komaeda would say no to that one. ]

Well, what do you want out of the contract?

( death, but he can't say that.

( obvious answer, but he's staring at rokkun like what else is there? )

And why would you need a contract for hope?

[commences]

Because everyone needs to be involved, a contract governs the entire school.

( that means he can reach people that he couldn't before, and he'll count on his fingers. )

The Vice Principal, your father, anyone and everyone who lacks hope can be erased.

[adsum]

Can you force hope on people like that?

[ Like "you're going to be hopeful whether you like it or not"
He thinks of his dad and... the guy's a dick, but he wouldn't call the man hopeless. He always felt like the opposite: he knew exactly what he was doing and was doing what he loved and seemed... happy. Which makes everything so much worse. ]

...No. Hope is special, and no contract could give a person that properly. Hope is by the person, not because it's forced.

( even if komaeda says it like a force, like he wants to drown everyone in it, that's not how it works. the hope that he loves is more romantic, those that can't fin strength from it will use it accordingly, and create more hope along the way. it's a bright light that covers everyone in its warmth, and komaeda hugs himself in thought as he thinks about it. hope can get under one's skin, become that feeling that tingles beneath the flesh and keeps them warm for a moment, and disappears, but it's always there whether they feel it or not. )

...I just wanted to say it to see how you'd take it. If it was something that could happen because of a contract, to learn the extent of it...

Maybe, with the right contract, but it wouldn't be real.

[ There's probably ways to make another person feel hopeful, the same way morphine gives him euphoria and makes him feel invincible if he can make it out of bed. But it's not real, it doesn't last. ]

You wouldn't accept that sort of hope, so if that's all you're looking for in a contract, don't bother making one.

...It'd be a replica with no meaning, contracts are tedious to deal with when you can just do it yourself.

( but that doesn't answer any of his lingering questions, nothing that says how to break them or what to do. yet, he's thinking of a world with forced hope, and there's only one manmade hope that he loves. as he looks at rokkun, he couldn't imagine him with a fake hope either, especially one he had to accept without making it himself. it just makes komaeda's skin crawl. )

The principal...? I didn't meet with anybody; it was just a form I sent to the office.

[ Principal's gone now, though. Maybe someday I'll pick up that plot thread again but it's not important rn ]

You sound so, so normal... when you say things like that Rokkun... say something extraordinary, I'm getting worried.

[ It's not important... now... maybe later idk it's not like I know what I'm doing ]

What do you want me to say? That I made a pact with some god and broke the contract because I died and that placed a curse on the school?

[ It's normal because it was his "be an honor's student" attempt and he decided that wasn't the way to go ]

( a small smile, but a smile nonethless because as stupid as that sounds, with it coming out of rokkun's mouth is actually tempting. it's because of how much he acts like a realist, but something a little different never hurt, sort of insane like the "gateway", and things like that. )

Goto-kun could teach us.
