[ Maybe Natsume was the only one to see, but otherwise... You ever have such a soul-crushing experience that, even if you weren't possessed by an evil spirit, you feel like you've lost something, like you've lost a part of yourself— the you that's supposed to be happy and productive and present— and you don't know how to get back to being that person? You would handle it the same way: ]
Give your friend time, kindness, and patience. The soul will heal. It is not made of glass, after all: it grows and changes all the time, constantly shaped even by the mundane everyday.
no subject
but it's still a relief; the most they can do is keep an eye on them, to give them time and kindness and patience, and that's easy. subaru can do that. amami, he's certain, can do that. it's not something outside of their realm, beyond their scope of understanding, unlike the circumstances leading up to it.]
We can definitely do that. Right, Ama-chan?
[look his nicknames come in handy, nevermind that amami's already messed up before iirc,]
no subject
Yeah. Yeah, we can do that. Thanks, Kazuki-san.
( he, for one, will definitely be taking care to make sure he won't let them down again. )
There's a couple other things I wanted to check on before we let you go though. Do you mind?
no subject
Not at all. I will always have time for my... for the students here.
no subject
You can still call us your students! If all the souls go to the tree you're tending, then we're still in your care no matter what.
[it's fine. kazuki's a kind person, just like natsume said, and the slip shows plenty about him
but go ahead amami]
no subject
...
he'll go with this, then: )
So, there's this tree that I have. ( they can talk about his tree instead; he's been meaning to for a while. )
It's a banyan tree, I think — the kind with roots that hang down. You probably know about those, yeah? But it does something a little strange. If you touch it, it tries to kind of hold your finger, and I don't think that'd usually happen with this kind of tree. An underclassman of mine, good with spirits, said that it had "good vibes" too. So I was wondering if you might be willing to give me an opinion on it.
no subject
[ Banyan's trying to eat your finger, Amami. They're cool trees, though. ]
no subject
oh
that's fun!]
Huh. I guess Ama-chan is a snack.
[subaru probably wouldn't mind eating him too.......... if he was a tree of course.]
no subject
( closes his eyes. opens his eyes. ANYWAY... he's pretending like he didn't hear that, but thanks, subaru. )
Any tips for taking care of one?
( maybe if he feeds it well enough it won't be hungry when he touches it. )
no subject
[ If he bleeds in the water the tree will probably grow faster, Kazuki does not say because this is unofficial advice ]
no subject
Can he feed it blood to make it grow faster? Like the plant from Little Shop of Horrors. "Feed me, Seymour!!!" and stuff.
[thank GOD subaru likes old movies he can make this ref]
no subject
( ???
this thing had better give that good luck that was promised on regain for real if he's feeding it his blood, tf... )
no subject
[ looks at last month, looks at this month, where is the good luck ]
no subject
blood for the blood plant. next month is sure to be good if you feed it your body kool-aid.]
Man, I kinda wanna take care of a plant too...
[..... would it be rude to ask the gardener for something if they've only just met..... he's debating...... where would he put it...... someplace natsume wouldn't be able to judge him..........]
no subject
for the time being, amami will look kind of sheepish about all this, because feeding blood to the blood plant wasn't in his plans, really, and he's still not sure if he trusts kazuki that much. might help that subaru's the one who suggested it though. )
Right. I'll keep that in mind then.
( and, looking to subaru... )
You're good with them?
( seemed more like a dog person to amami — high energy and all that. )
no subject
[ Do not uproot one of his plants? Go steal one of Nene's. ]
no subject
[i'm so sorry he's probably okay but he'd probably be more interested in growing something from the seed..... seeing his efforts would bring him joy
he does look disappointed his bid for getting a special spirit plant from kazuki fell through though, and he sighs as he decides to cling onto amami...]
Yeah, probably~. I want a plant like his though, or... [a glance up at the tree, then away. thank goodness kazuki's blind.] Something like that.
no subject
Sorry, Kazuki-san. I know you've already helped us with a lot.
( so... yeah, it's not the same, but he's gonna have to pull a "we have food at home" with another glance back to subaru. )
If he had any to spare, they'd probably already be planted in the courtyard by now, don't you think? If you want to garden, why don't you help with what's already here.
( but not the wisteria tree because amami will tell him why when they get back in the dorm.
... actually, pretty sure he owes kazuki some help watering things out here after that visit before, huh... )

He is right, lad. A life is a life, and even a plant's is not a trifle matter. If you simply wish to take care of a plant, I have many who would appreciate the companionship. If you wish to grow something ornamental or to be eaten, those are different considerations. Tell me your thoughts, so that I may help find one that suits your interests best.
[ It's like those stories you hear about little kids making their parents get them puppies for Christmas and then two weeks later get bored of them and send them to the pound, don't do that to dogs, don't do that to plants. ]
no subject
still... subaru didn't think of it that way -- a life is a life, even when it's a plant... hajime could've probably told him the same thing, thinking about it.]
Oh, uh... Um.
[...]
I think something you can eat from would be nice? My mom had an herb garden, I'd help pull weeds in it. Is ornamental like, bonsai and stuff?
no subject
( amami, whose family just kind of hired a gardener and called it a day. all his family plant memories are probably just things like being scolded for stomping all over them when he got too excited, sorry kazuki.
still... )
If it's something to remind you of home, that doesn't sound so bad.
no subject
Ornamental pertains to things of beauty as opposed to utility, but for plants, I would like to think it is both. Their mere presence brings about joy and comfort.
[ Like the wisteria tree. Pretty, when you don't think about what it is. ]
no subject
... they both sound nice... something comforting, but something that reminds him of home... if it produces food it probably won't last in a sense, but maybe something that comes back again and again...?
...]
Can you think of anything that comes back once it dies? Like how trees aren't dead, just sleeping. That sorta thing.
[annuals or something like that]
