Hi there, everybody.
Even though there's a tendency to post a lot on these devices, there are times when you need to go to someone for advice.
Lest you never find answers, of course.
Please understand that this is just a silly little post just asking a single question: how do you define friendship?

For the sake of conversation, though.
A friend is someone a few steps above acquaintance and maybe one above 'confidant'. Someone you feel comfortable around, that you can rely on when the going gets tough. That being said, that's a two way street. You can't necessarily call someone a friend if they don't feel comfortable around you, and even caring for someone unconditionally has limits. If they're not willing to tell you to cut some shit out, then that makes them more of a toady than a friend.
That said, when a bunch of people are left in a small space, there's a chance they can pair off and become friends of convenience. A two heads are better than one tactic, just to survive because they recognize the other's merits. It's a pretty broad question.

Classwork's light at the beginning of the year, isn't it? It still feels weird having free time after school.

Obviously it's unnatural in a place like this.
So that's the reason why I've made a post like this.
Somehow, it's weird, though.
Only this time of the year would you get less classwork.
So there's not much student council work either?

Plus, I still have to look out for the younger students who may be looking for guidance.

Back to the definition for a second.
In addition to the convenience aspect, there's also friendship through adversity. The shared experience can draw people even closer together, though that may fall more under 'confidant'.

Honestly, I just want to ensure that the rest of the students here are safe after all.
Everyone deserves at least that, don't you agree?
Really, that's the kind of thing I signed up for in the first place.

All of that said, I kind of get it. It's kinda dangerous to get closer to anyone at any point without leaving yourself open.
Rejection, heartbreak, betrayal, it's not easy to deal with.
Everyone knows that.

Obviously, one could see the differences, but it's also pretty blurry when you think about it.
Ultimately, I don't think it's easy to define friendship in a universal matter. It means a lot of things.

Everything seems bleak right now, but that's the point of a new school year: a new beginning.

Even though there are some mysteries that we still have to figure out... well.
Ready or not, we're stuck in this together for the long run.

Simply put, I don't want to see anyone get hurt.

[Her tired, addled mind doesn't process things as quickly, and while she's relieved that being with another person doesn't make it worse, it doesn't necessarily make it better. And when Inaba's exhausted, she automatically defaults to being defensive.]

[ He knows what he's getting into if he starts talking about this, so he starts fishing around in his pockets for the key. Still, her reaction's kinda surprising. It could mostly be down to her current drowsy state, but it's still something rare.

Someone like that isn't necessarily untrustworthy themselves. Of course, there are probably bad guys out there who don't trust because they're quick to betray whoever they come across. On the other hand, some are just afraid of being betrayed themselves.
[ Opening up to anyone, that's terrifying enough. But doing that just for them to let you down, it's downright awful. ]
Either way-- whether or not you trust me is irrelevant. I'm willing to take this chance so that you don't overdo it again. You're no use to yourself if you can't even think straight.
