( how i'm not going to fix my icons and you tag me so i have to do this why do you tempt me... )

I don't know, you have to open them.

( he is going to walk around the counter, and then sit down in front of his footlocker so that he can be right next to them. he places all that he's carried into the seat of his lap, and one of the items is wrapped in... some ugly green. there's another wrapped in red, so... christmas colors. he won't relinquish the note. )

One's good luck, and one's bad luck... do you want to gamble? Rock paper scissors first, and if you win... you can choose.

[ What's up with that? Just give them the good luck present. But a game's a game and a gift's a gift, so they turn to Komaeda with their fist at the ready.

( and komaeda will cover his eyes with one hand, and hold out his fist next. he looks like he's contracted rigor mortis, the meme i think about when he balls his fist honestly. he's going to cheat and peak to see if npckun also closed their eyes. )

[ They keep their eyes open the entire time. ]

( komaeda's not even playing, but he does have a smile on his face as he uncovers his eyes. )

I can feel you staring at me, come now... close them! I'll give you a surprise present with the present of your choice if you play correctly...~

[ I'll be back in ten hours.......... pray for me

npckun puffs their cheeks a little, because there's no way somebody can feel a stare, and besides, they were staring at komaeda's hands to be able to throw the winning choice.

But fine, okay. They don't cover their eyes with their hand but squeezes them tightly shut instead, hand out to do the countdown over again and it's still scissors ]

[commences]

( sighs... stares at the clock... ten hours remaining.

npckun doesn't have to throw off the winning choice because with their eyes closed, komaeda will cover his own again. he can hear the pat of one hand into the palm... )

Jan! Ken! P— ( he takes a quick sneak, seeing what the other chooses, and seeing that it's scissors, he closes the gap in his eyes again. ) —an!

( his hand is laid out flat for paper, so he's not going to look, and wait for npckun to open their eyes instead. )

[ me, excited to get back to tags, then seeing this as the oldest thing in my inbox,

The fact that Komaeda doesn't pull away, though, the fact that he can feel that hand on his shirt and breath on his lips, has him sliding his eyes closed, hands wandering to brush the hangs off Komaeda's face and thread his fingers in the hair at the side of his face like he can physically keep him here, like this, tasting of painkillers and coffee and the faintest bite of mint toothpaste. There is nothing sweet about the kiss. It's insistent but at the same time restrained, and he's first to pull away and instead presses a kiss to Komaeda's jaw, on the side of his neck, so he can give without needing to be reciprocated. ]

[ Sorry that his reality is annoying... But he does frown a little at the fact that he's playing along, originally only doing so to humor Komaeda but now blaming him for planting that seed of hope in his heart, that even with how impossible it would be to see his baby brother again, there's that want to see— to see him happy, to see him surrounded by friends, to see him have grown up and moved on and become a person who doesn't need a big brother to hold his hand, who won't look back or reach down.

Instead, he sees the person holding Amami's hand, all but pressed to his side, smiling happily and chatting cheerfully, and he isn't sure what to feel. ]

...He was only three. He's not going to know who I am.

[ And maybe he doesn't want to face the heartbreak of somebody he loves no longer knowing him. He's already had to do that too many times with Komaeda. ]

[ Oh, they were sort of hoping Amami would forget about the pool, that maybe they can fill their day with so much that they can lose track of time and just not go and suddenly it's too late into the evening and neither of them will feel bad about it because they had a fun, full day anyways.

Okay, so: rooftop for breakfast, library for movies, back to the store for clothes and floaties, we'll drop everything off in your room and get the bread started, then you're going to teach me how to doggy paddle, and then we can bake the bread. Melonpan takes about an hour to proof.

[ Hard time-limit for the pool is one hour. ]

I can't imagine feeling nothing...

[ Even when they lost everything and it would have been so much easier to stop feeling, all they could do was cry and cry and cry until their eyes hurt and head felt full and chest felt empty— it was all still feeling. Even when it's something that's supposed to be good, like love, the nervousness takes over, their heart feeling more like it's trembling than beating, as if it's capable of making a wrong move and destroy the fragility of whatever relationship they've managed to build up with another person. The heartbeat equivalent of holding their breath, and the longer they're around somebody feeling that way the more it hurts.

If they think about it, being here with Komaeda hurts a little too, and it's all they can do to curl their arms up and find Komaeda's hands. ]

[ They're more than okay with it; giving hugs, holding somebody there, is their specialty, and they come forward to sit straddled on his lap with their arms around him, pulling him forward away from the back of the seat so he has no choice but to lean into them in return. It's a tight hug, one that doesn't relax into one more comfortable as quickly as it would have otherwise, one full of unvoiced fear and anxiety and apprehension, one that begs him not to leave at the end of the day and maybe if they hold on like this, they can keep him from doing so. ]

( *wakes up to this and it makes me sad*

that's such a long time ago, and the many years that passed... would they even be able to recognize him. he could say that's rokkun's own fault for wanting to be a spy, that they should have walked in the shop to browse, searching for trinkets and he could watch from a distance, but things are never that easy. )

...Huh. ( his voice softens, muttering to himself than rokkun. ) Are you truly a butterfly who can watch from afar...

( he sighs, looking up properly now as he smiles softly... he stays in his little corner, thinking back to the previous conversation. )

I don't believe they're against knowing, they may not remember... but... ( saying this almost feels like a slap in the face towards himself, komaeda deals with memory problem, and he accepts his gains and losses because there's nothing else he can do to stop it. perhaps that's why he can speak against his claim, since the problem has always been whether someone knows or remembers... how unfair, when rokkun gets an advantage to wallow in self-pity, he takes it. )

They told me that the dead don't come back as they originally were, but they're capable of finding their way back to... their loved ones... This conversation was about you... do you think that's a want to know...

( the way they look for others to replace their aniki, that's a tell that they miss him, remember his existence. even komaeda has been compared to him a couple of times, and he's never accepted it, and that's because he knows how much this means to rokkun. how far he's willing to go, and now komaeda can't even look at him. )

[ It means more than he knows that he doesn't ask them why nor question their decision that's already been made and that they cannot take back. The acceptance comes with a wave of relief, one that spills out as tears hot on Subaru's neck, as hitching breath and fingers curled against the shirt on his back. ]

I'm scared... [ a whispered admittance, one that makes them feel weak and small and everything they don't want to be, but that's what they are. Dying in itself is a terrifying concept, that even when a person doesn't believe in life after death, there will always be that tiniest shred of hope that there is something. Being in a better place. Being reunited with loved ones. Finally being at peace from pain and suffering.

The concept of nothing scares them more than the concept of hell, because when there's nothing, you won't even know when it happens. It makes every day feeling like the exact moment where, after walking a careful tightrope all their life, the rope suddenly snaps. ]

I'm just tired of being at school and didn't think this is what my break would turn out to be like.

[ Which is not technically a lie, even if it isn't his main reason for wanting to leave. But it's true that he would have little patience for this sort of class Komaeda teaches, one that asks him to not only look at another person but to look up at them, and that's just not something he does. He doesn't follow in other people's footsteps, he makes his own. However dim his hope might be, he carries it in his hands and cares little of sharing the light with others; he just needs it to grow until it burns bright and hot enough to set this school ablaze. ]

[commences]

...That's what I want to hear from you.

( it's difficult, but it's the better outcome that he has faced himself with for a long time now. komaeda tries his best not to feel anything, because as long as there's no feelings to apply, positive, then nothing negative will come into play. this is a sensitive subject where admitting things like his feelings, the company of others in an unhealthy light is normally spared, but genuine feelings that are nothing but ammunition to shoot down those he care about.

he'd rather not feel at all, in a way it's to keep those around him safe because he knows what will happen. he'd have to accept losing them eventually, no one is spared around him, and he's used to it, but sometimes... he allows his hands to remain in place, and he'll lace them without even thinking because there's another question on his mind. )

( that's the better alternative right? a person can read so much from that, even if he says one thing, and the way he pulls the other closer is another. )

( amami, for his part, is no better. it's more than he'd expected, but he's grateful all the same as he wraps his arms around them, holds them tight — grateful just to know that they're there, that they're solid, that they're warm and breathing and alive. safe and sound with no thanks to his failure, again and again and again, to keep the people important to him out of harm's way. he stays like this, quiet for a long moment before he finally says anything more. a soft murmur that sounds all too tired despite the fact that it's early still in the day. )

( the way rokkun is like crona's dad, and his toxic trait is showing. )

You don't have to go anywhere, Crona-san, because he doesn't need me that badly at all.

( hm. that's more than enough, komaeda can dissect his reply, but he'll do that by himself and with neither of the two near him. he glances off towards crona, motioning for the other to get up properly so that they can figure something out — if he's tired of being in the school, they can go, but SOMEOME has to go to the bathroom. )

Aren't you going to the bathroom? We can go outside once you're finished, the same goes for you, too. ( he's going to look at crona so they can go if need be, considering their small outburst... maybe they'd want time to themselves for a moment. ) I'll wait here.

[immediate, holding keigo tighter, feeling their hot tears against his skin and soaking into his shirt. subaru was willing to help them fulfill their goal before, and -- that, that hasn't changed. he will help them with that, because no doubt the punishment for not obtaining the amount necessary is just as bad, and he intends to help them even beyond.

even if subaru didn't like them so much, he would. not just because they're friends, but because he would never turn his eyes from someone in need. he rubs the other's back, long and gentle strokes.]

Tell me anything I need to know, as long as it won't get you in trouble for talking about it.

( rokkun's life a kdrama, you do sumn unexpected one day, and then the next you gotta go cry about family, anyway i hope this tag made you laugh.

unlike his friend, komaeda doesn't close his eyes, instead he perceives every action the other takes within the room, and whatever light he has to guide him. the only reason rokkun can do this is because he's being allowed, though it seems komaeda's careless reciprocation only encouraged him. the feeling of his lips brushing against his neck sends a shiver down his spine, an unfamiliar action that if he doesn't think too much about, but it tickles so he shivers a bit (while thinking of england, yama said this is what he has to do). maybe komaeda's too detached from the carnal human desires, or maybe he just can't get over how heavy rokkun is... it's probably why he feels himself slightly warm considering how close they are, and komaeda's colder than him.

he's going to reach for the hand that's not in his hair (it's actually very soft, he got hinata to brush it), so he can instead push the knife onto the floor... let it hit something and slide under the bed, so he can assist in a different way. he's going to wrap his arms around the other's neck instead, his fingers lightly tracing at the nape of it to grab his attention, and then he's going to try and turn him so that he can get the third year on his side in the cot... is he going to misinterpret this, i sat here with this sentence like this dumbass gunna leave a hickey or bite him or sumn, and that's gunna be the reason why they're playing hide and seek in the other tag. )

( when kamo-kun's inner control freak comes out to make the decisions and actually it's very adorable of them? yes the two of them will be doing everything they want, amami's actually kind of forgetting about the original plan here because of this, but that's fine. anybody would be the same, surely, and komaeda's probably got it covered anyway. )

Works for me. We'll call that the plan for now, and after all that we'll figure out what else we want to do.

( as much as he wants to just keep feeding them ideas and see them rearrange them into a day schedule, probably shouldn't get too ahead of themselves here. )

10/04 — rokkun (1/2)

[commences]

( he's skipped classes today because he's interested in something else, and that interest has made komaeda stand outside of 3-a — he waits for the teacher to dismiss class, and once they do, he'll peek in from time to time to check if a certain someone will move. in his hand contains a small box, and his hand grips it tightly like he shouldn't have it to begin with, but he can't bring himself to let it go, but he doesn't care too much if people notice it because he's not hiding it.

he waits for one student to leave, eyeing them for a brief moment, and if it's not who he wants, he ignores them entirely. when it comes to komaeda's attention, he doesn't care for others, but the people who he wants to benefit him at the time. again, he peeks inside, trying not to make eye contact with rokkun if he can help it. hopefully (luckily?) he manages to miss their eyes connecting by hiding back behind the side of the door, and then he looks down at the container in his hand.

hmm.
