He doesn't remember anyTHING. Not you or Maya-chan, or what hapPENED. I told him he's been stabbed beFORE, but I didn't say who did IT, and I wouldn't tell him why even if I KNEW.
( Because he's afraid that if Kouji knew, he'd go after Hiro, and—
well. Natsume has been trying not to kill people, but he might not hesitate for Hiro's safety. He might not. )
You never told ME. ( Hiro doesn't have to. But Natsume glances at him, eyebrows pressed together. ) It's not necessary for our friendship eiTHER, but being friends means we can help each other carry the burdens weighing heavy on our HEARTS.

...Shifting backwards, Hiro links his two pinkies together in the sign of a promise, then flips his hands around to hook his thumbs together, fingers splayed out to flap slowly like a bird taking off as he lifts his hands. Something about a promise, something about freedom. ]
no subject
Hmmm. Natsume pops some of the ruined Kuromi in his mouth, thinking about the motions. Take it a bit at a time... )
...Did stabbing him free you of a proMISE, or did you make a promise about it to ensure someone's freeDOM?
no subject
He holds up two fingers, but sort of hesitantly, like that's not exactly it but it's the closer of the two options ]
no subject
Hmmmm.
( Now it's more like, which part of it, or if the whole thing's just askew slightly, like when you move furniture in a room and keep hitting your knee on the couch that shouldn't be there but is now because you made some adjustments.
time to piece out this ig welcome to a long thread of choices. didn't have to be this way. )
You made the proMISE, or was it one made by something ELSE... or a third opTION?
no subject
but okay, we're really playing 20 questions, huh
He holds up two fingers. ...three? ...two. Not something, but someone. ]
no subject
Three... so third? But closer to the second... )
Someone else made a proMISE. ( ... ) Maya-chan? Seki-kun? Sato-chan?
( the only three people he can think to link to hiro ngl )

With you or someone ELSE?

...And yours involved freeDOM, or was that the FIRST?

Freedom from WHAT, I wonDER... Well ( glancing around a bit, ) I wouldn't blame him for wanting it from HERE, but to escape the trials and tribulations of this cycle you'd have to achieve something very few people DO.
( Putting graduation all the way to the side there, like, enlightenment and escaping reincarnation and all is so narrow. You'd never know if you did either; the soul ceases to exist after it ascends, after all. )
Who did he make the first promise WITH?

I suppose I can't expect you to know everyTHING. ( A little smile, though. ) Thank you for trusting me enough to say anything at ALL, Hiro-kun.
( it's nice. he slowly returns to eating. )
I know I sort of leveraged you into IT, but you still didn't have to anSWER. ( ... ) You can ask me anything you want TOO.

And then it hits him, and, oh.
Natsume pauses, and he thinks about just trying to brush it off like he tried with Subaru—but that hadn't worked, and Hiro'd been honest with him as far as he knows. His grip on his chopsticks tightens a bit, and while the smile that returns to his face isn't a genuine one, it's the one Hiro gets treated to all the same. )
What about IT? If she mentioned it to YOU, then I assume you're aware of what's going on with it and why it's like THAT.
no subject
has giving up sight been fruitful at all, essentially ]
no subject
I may have been hasty in giving it UP, ( he admits quietly, gaze dropping down, ) but I thought it would HELP. And so FAR, it... For the purpose I had traded it FOR, and what I received in reTURN, it hasn't been particularly SO.
( ... )
It hasn't been all BAD. There's a ghost that haunts the libraRY, Haruka-chan--she's been ecstatic that someone new can see HER, can talk to HER. The way her face lights up alone makes this trade worth IT. Then there's the gardener; he's not exactly a friendly spiRIT, and I'm sure there's a reason he's kept out of the school ( he has his suspicions, beginning and ending with knowing kazuki's..... yeah. ) but he's been wonderful to talk to, TOO.
And I suppose Hanako-kun is fine eNOUGH.
( As long as Natsume's not hurting Nene's feelings or flirting with her to tease her. He looks up again, briefly, then back down. )
Yet I'm no closer to my goal despite having traded one sight for anoTHER. I suppose I'm not as grown up as I thought I was--only a child sees something that might help and doesn't stop to think of how to utilize IT. They simply consider if it's worth the cost and decides yes or NO.
no subject
But, for what it's worth, he taps the outside of his wrist like one would with a watch— "give it some time"— and then does a little fistpump, as if to cheer Natsume on. ]
no subject
I appreciate the FAITH. ( for real. ) Have you met Kazuki-san, or have you just heard about HIM?
( given the nervousness, )
no subject
no subject
...oh. )
Is Sato-chan afraid of GHOSTS?
( promise this is a good lead-in into something. promising. )
no subject
no subject
don't worry i remember )
If she's NOT, and you want a friendly ghost to chat WITH, the one in the library is always looking for new FRIENDS. Séances aren't so difficult to do eiTHER.
( Natsume's idea of a good time is to teach Hiro dangerous things, like magic circles and talking to the dead, I guess. )
...She's like a little sister to ME, and she gets lonely very easiLY, so it'd be nice if she could have a few more people who acknowledge her exisTENCE. I suppose it's a selfish of me to bring it up to you THOUGH.
