Please let August be better than July I'm begging

✽ Due to 10+ classes raising their ranks last month, ALL characters have access to the courtyard via the door in the locker area and the windows facing the courtyard.
✽ Characters with 1-10 tallies are not able to get any further past the end of the courtyard before they fall unconscious; characters with 10-20 can get halfway to the pool building before the same happens to them; characters with 20+ tallies can reach the pool building but unfortunately, the door is on the other side. There are no windows on the walls, but from the clocktower, characters can see that it has a glass ceiling, though they are unable to see inside.
✽ Outside, there is no breeze, and it occasionally rains ash.
✽ Characters going up to the 4th floor will feel that the door is warm to the touch, and will occasionally open (see: missions)
✽ The student store opens, with the door propped open with a doorstopper. The npc running the store is currently not interested in conversation, but may be available for threading in the future and is available for threading in the toplevel below. Please see the updated bonus activity page for more information.
✽ Posted on the bulletin board and also handed to each club president before break is the notice that proof of club activity is due at the end of break. Please submit these proofs in the toplevel below.
✽ There is another ad on the bulletin board advertising an exchange student program for the month of October. Applications will be taken until the end of August, and there is a 300 merit point fee. Sister cities include Death City, Devildom, Ishigami Village, Lanling, LazyTown, and Maiami City.

You say it wouldn't benefit you, sighs... I guess dying by your hands would be hopeless if there's nothing gained.

( the opposite of what he wants. he wants a death where when he dies, people will respect his efforts because his life did something for them. npc-kun can make him a wooden statue, not bronze, so he has variety this time around. )

There are some who will die for the success of others. That's what most tallies are for.

Being a martyr is a tough job, too many victim complexes run around here. ( he's also one of them, buuut: )

( komaeda's not ready for the big step of making friends, he has like... classmates whose hope he wants to help, isn't that more than enough. )

The people here... they don't like death, they feel as if this school is corrupting us, and it's why we kill. I don't think that's true at all... ( only because he always thinks about killing for hope, but you know... they don't know that. ) I think they want me to be nicer, actually.

[ He's been plenty nice. Kind of pushy, but npc-kun's long learned that if you keep a smile on your face, there are people who think of it as niceness. ]

I don't get that about the school corrupting people, either... That just sounds like an excuse to me.

They can't accept that they're all expendable when it comes down to it, some sacrifices are needed for the sake of them moving forward, to grow their hope... some of them are foolish, it's why we're still in this predicament.

( he thinks, tapping his chin. ) Sometimes I worry they're returning to their old roots where they accomplish nothing, so they blame others. Between the school, and those with glowing, gold eyes, they're terrified of that. ( and him, apparently. )

[ npc-kun nods along in that personality doesn't really matter— I mean, look at them— as well as how difficult it can be to realize the insignificance of your own life in the grand scheme of things. ]

Terrified... of what, exactly? Maybe I can help; maybe something in here can help.

[ No switchblades, but there are plenty of other fun things, for the sole purpose of arming these students with tools, if they know how to use them. ]

That people with golden eyes will kill them, or that we'd betray one another... though, if only they'd ask... they wouldn't feel like there's secrets kept between them... I wish there was just a way to make them get along even more.

( he sighs, but it's true there's millions of things in the shopkeeper's possession that would work greatly, it's just getting the chance to use it. )

They want to act without harming, they don't want to kill... they want to survive without any consequences. Are you able to help in that way?

Maybe... I can help each person individually, sell them things that bring them safety and comfort, but it won't fix anything unless everybody is of the same mind. Which is impossible, with so many people, because it takes only one person...

[ They go back to staring at their hands, so I can break up the monologue ]

It would be easier if they were united under one leader. This school has one, but I heard she wasn't elected. Not by everybody.

There's only a few like minded people.

( the murderers who want to kill, but it's just in that aspect, and not others. komaeda only wants to do it if it involves hope, not to trim their numbers, but to bring them all together. he finds no joy in mindless killing, as long as hope can take part... he's very willing. using that as his reason was also rejected by the group, so everyone had their own opinions.

And there are others within the group that wants control, but... they'll never be satisfied. I'm curious, the person that you're speaking of... what is her hope like if you feel so strongly? What could she have done for them?

( because obviously komaeda doesn't need help, but he's always excited to act up. )

I think she's sort of like me: she has a goal. One that involves everybody, but she doesn't let other people get involved. I think already she's doing what she can... but because people don't see it, they don't know.

She's always up to something, it's not that I'm against her, she did help Ishimaru-kun, and for that I'm grateful.

But others hate her, despise her, think she's as evil as they come. She's a young girl, so they're all like that. ( evil (affectionate). )

Oh. I guess what I mean is, she has no choice but to act, given the position. It doesn't matter if people like her, or if her actions are supported. She's doing what she needs to do.

You want them all unified under her... It'll be difficult. Too many closed minded people here, some are too afraid, and there are others who can't find their grounding. How should we reign them in, I'm curious of this hope she has in the making.

It has to be somebody well liked... somebody capable, somebody with a presence, who people are naturally drawn to. Somebody able to bring people together and pull them along. Somebody... the best student in the school... universally loved and respected...

( that was so cute of them, and even komaeda has to lean up off of them to look down like he's thinking about it. they need someone with a presence, someone adored by the masses. they may not have all of that, but they do have a certain vibe about them, one that manages to pull people into their presence, they feel comforted by them.

An Ultimate can do the job. He may not have a following like Lucifer-kun, but I adore the way the Ultimate Detective manages to bring everyone together, even when he doesn't want to.

( yet, being put on the spot to lead them all, hm... doesn't sound like his place. )

Someone who can emphasize with people, learn to understand them, isn't that sort of nature rare among those who are afraid, and decide to do away with what they can't control?

I guess... But would you want to follow somebody who doesn't want to lead?

[ That sort of reluctant leadership... It isn't even about capability, then. If somebody else wants to be leader, then the person who didn't want to do it in the first place would too readily give up that position to somebody who isn't qualified. Looking at you, Kaito. ]

...You shouldn't think less of an Ultimate, they're able to do extraordinary things.

( there's certain qualifications that someone needs to have to be the ideal leader in komaeda's eyes, no, as long as they have hope — that's all they need. the desire to go forward, to help those move along in an experience where one can't live without the other. hope that's born from their talents, cultivated by their actions, and the truth can build character compared to those that make excuses. )

Just because somebody is capable, doesn't mean they want to do something. Doesn't mean they should be forced to. I already said I don't want to do it.
