Please let August be better than July I'm begging

✽ Due to 10+ classes raising their ranks last month, ALL characters have access to the courtyard via the door in the locker area and the windows facing the courtyard.
✽ Characters with 1-10 tallies are not able to get any further past the end of the courtyard before they fall unconscious; characters with 10-20 can get halfway to the pool building before the same happens to them; characters with 20+ tallies can reach the pool building but unfortunately, the door is on the other side. There are no windows on the walls, but from the clocktower, characters can see that it has a glass ceiling, though they are unable to see inside.
✽ Outside, there is no breeze, and it occasionally rains ash.
✽ Characters going up to the 4th floor will feel that the door is warm to the touch, and will occasionally open (see: missions)
✽ The student store opens, with the door propped open with a doorstopper. The npc running the store is currently not interested in conversation, but may be available for threading in the future and is available for threading in the toplevel below. Please see the updated bonus activity page for more information.
✽ Posted on the bulletin board and also handed to each club president before break is the notice that proof of club activity is due at the end of break. Please submit these proofs in the toplevel below.
✽ There is another ad on the bulletin board advertising an exchange student program for the month of October. Applications will be taken until the end of August, and there is a 300 merit point fee. Sister cities include Death City, Devildom, Ishigami Village, Lanling, LazyTown, and Maiami City.

( okay, komaeda will just lean over while they're sitting, and wrap his arms around their arm to hold them in place. you know, the thing clingy people do, but he's not moving much, instead he's just going to lean against them. )

( there's something about this family and those hidden goals of theirs, that need to do something to reach the heights that they wish to achieve. for a moment, komaeda's mind reels back to when he asked if rokkun would be able to graduate, and that was denied. now, properly listening to the other having something they wish to gain, he wonders if they'll go as far as their brother. the way rokkun goes about it doesn't seem wrong to komaeda, but the two have their differences just as well as they have their similarities.

his lips purse into a straight line, and he doesn't move from his spot as the other leans against him. )

( he inhales softly, closing his eyes as he tries to vaguely remember how rokkun himself says it — are arata's always so sure of themselves? must run in the family... is that a bloodline thing, or does it stem from their subconscious. )

( rokkun didn't have many friends it seems, or he chose the worst people to be around... he said people only looked up to him — admired him, never loved him. that sort of response from others towards npc-kun should be different, apparently that too feeds into hope. at one point, he also said he wished he could be loved, so if he can't be then... )

friends, though, that's hard, and npc-kun leans a little more against Komaeda's arm. Customers are easy. The shopkeeper relationship is easy. Friendship requires... people.

( arisu and arata are powerful in this school, they're growing day by day... and when a new family name comes in, that's when we should be scared.

shopkeeper relationship is easy, but for komaeda who only has the role of a stepping stone, he's giving npc-kun the chance to explore that and more — having friends, close relationships, and things like that are finicky. one comes before the other, but he's hypocritical, contradictory, and his thoughts always change, so it's not like his views stay the same, which gives npc-kun a bit to work with. )

It's complicated.

( friends are, people that care, if he had to say it aloud — he has no one to that effect. he keeps himself at a distance, remaining separate from them, because it seems better that way. besides, his last friend had him trapped in the kagerou daze, so that speaks volumes. it's bad for people to be around him... )

I shouldn't speak a narrative onto others, but I'm on good terms with their hopes, and bonds are important. There are some... who put up with me.

( he hums, thoughtful. he has a few here in the school, but he walks on glass that's about to crack, and others are... he's never seen it before, people who actually want to be around him, that acknowledge him for more than what he gives. )

What I gave you can only happen when there's more than one person... that piece of hope is important, and very rare.

( and komaeda hasn't offered one in awhile, these bitches are slacking, but that goes to show that hope is cultivated through various means. he just has to teach them, besides... slow and steady wins the race. )

There are some who will die for the success of others. That's what most tallies are for.

The people here... they don't like death, they feel as if this school is corrupting us, and it's why we kill. I don't think that's true at all... ( only because he always thinks about killing for hope, but you know... they don't know that. ) I think they want me to be nicer, actually.

They can't accept that they're all expendable when it comes down to it, some sacrifices are needed for the sake of them moving forward, to grow their hope... some of them are foolish, it's why we're still in this predicament.

( he thinks, tapping his chin. ) Sometimes I worry they're returning to their old roots where they accomplish nothing, so they blame others. Between the school, and those with glowing, gold eyes, they're terrified of that. ( and him, apparently. )

[ npc-kun nods along in that personality doesn't really matter— I mean, look at them— as well as how difficult it can be to realize the insignificance of your own life in the grand scheme of things. ]

Terrified... of what, exactly? Maybe I can help; maybe something in here can help.

[ No switchblades, but there are plenty of other fun things, for the sole purpose of arming these students with tools, if they know how to use them. ]

That people with golden eyes will kill them, or that we'd betray one another... though, if only they'd ask... they wouldn't feel like there's secrets kept between them... I wish there was just a way to make them get along even more.

( he sighs, but it's true there's millions of things in the shopkeeper's possession that would work greatly, it's just getting the chance to use it. )

They want to act without harming, they don't want to kill... they want to survive without any consequences. Are you able to help in that way?

Maybe... I can help each person individually, sell them things that bring them safety and comfort, but it won't fix anything unless everybody is of the same mind. Which is impossible, with so many people, because it takes only one person...

[ They go back to staring at their hands, so I can break up the monologue ]

It would be easier if they were united under one leader. This school has one, but I heard she wasn't elected. Not by everybody.

There's only a few like minded people.

( the murderers who want to kill, but it's just in that aspect, and not others. komaeda only wants to do it if it involves hope, not to trim their numbers, but to bring them all together. he finds no joy in mindless killing, as long as hope can take part... he's very willing. using that as his reason was also rejected by the group, so everyone had their own opinions.

And there are others within the group that wants control, but... they'll never be satisfied. I'm curious, the person that you're speaking of... what is her hope like if you feel so strongly? What could she have done for them?
