Please let August be better than July I'm begging

✽ Due to 10+ classes raising their ranks last month, ALL characters have access to the courtyard via the door in the locker area and the windows facing the courtyard.
✽ Characters with 1-10 tallies are not able to get any further past the end of the courtyard before they fall unconscious; characters with 10-20 can get halfway to the pool building before the same happens to them; characters with 20+ tallies can reach the pool building but unfortunately, the door is on the other side. There are no windows on the walls, but from the clocktower, characters can see that it has a glass ceiling, though they are unable to see inside.
✽ Outside, there is no breeze, and it occasionally rains ash.
✽ Characters going up to the 4th floor will feel that the door is warm to the touch, and will occasionally open (see: missions)
✽ The student store opens, with the door propped open with a doorstopper. The npc running the store is currently not interested in conversation, but may be available for threading in the future and is available for threading in the toplevel below. Please see the updated bonus activity page for more information.
✽ Posted on the bulletin board and also handed to each club president before break is the notice that proof of club activity is due at the end of break. Please submit these proofs in the toplevel below.
✽ There is another ad on the bulletin board advertising an exchange student program for the month of October. Applications will be taken until the end of August, and there is a 300 merit point fee. Sister cities include Death City, Devildom, Ishigami Village, Lanling, LazyTown, and Maiami City.

( he's the adult here, very mindful of his actions, and very attentive to a weapon in his possession. he sets the camera down on the table, and he holds his hand out trying to contain his excitement. )

But then both our hands will be sticky...

Okay. I'm going to go wash my hands and grab some salt for the corn. I'll wet some paper towels for us too.

[ Against all better judgement, npc-kun leaves Komaeda alone in a room with a knife. ]

( knife!!! knife!!! it's his now, his comfort item... take that counselor, thought komaeda would be without an item!!

actually komaeda's thinking about not opening any other cans, because he has the pocket knife and doesn't want to dull the blade any further.

so they take the corn can and walks over to the door, setting it on the floor against the corner where he believes that if he shuts the door really, really, hard... it'll pop the can top right up.

...roll a d20 and see if he's lucky enough to do so. )

[ npc-kun's going to break his hand if he doesn't give the knife back, he knows they don't do anything for free

anyways what does 13 mean, I imagine shutting the door really hard will pop the lid off but also corn is going to go absolutely everywhere? was there any rational thought behind this plan? ]

( no, it's komaeda's now... he's been wanting one for so long, and it's in his pocket now.

apparently the lower the number, the worst it is, and the higher the number... the better it is. so i did half and half 1-10 and 11-20... so that means he can shut the door, and the can's top will fly open... it can have a bit of food spilled, but not a lot...

if you had rolled worst... sighs. looks at hand, anyway he's lucky!! it's fine.

come back npc-kun, komaeda got it open!! )

[ They return with salt and damp paper towels and a very long stare at the little kernels on the ground. Food is not allowed in their store every again.

You managed it without getting your hands dirty.

[commences]

( kneeling down, he'll pick up the can as he looks towards the other... staring, but then after a moment of being told that he isn't dirty... he smiles. )

It's been awhile since someone said I looked nice! Thank you...

( ... that's not what npc-kun meant, but he's happy about it. )

Here, you can have the rest. ( because komaeda... can eat what's on the floor if npc-kun leave him to it. )

[ how I was thinking maybe npc-kun might not have any kernels to deadeye if Komaeda picked them off the ground and ate them already but I wanted to have faith

Instead they look down at the almost full can. ]

What's wrong with it?

[ It's like when you buy a new drink but it tastes weird so you turn around and hand it to your sibling like "here, you can have this" ]

( going to make komaeda say it aloud, huh. he'll point at the kernels that are on the floor, and then point to himself. )

I already have my half... you're always in here, working, so you should eat something. The cans were for you anyway.

( the truth of the matter is that komaeda only eats bread, that's why he's the way he is. you ever have the taste for one thing and won't eat anything else? )

I'm not really hungry.

[adsum]

[ No... I have the opposite problem where I take two bites of something and then decide I never want to eat again, taste fatigue is immediate

For all the running around and sales pitching npc-kun does all day, they probably don't eat until their stomach hurts and they remember to, so they genuinely appreciate the thought but can anybody be hungry when they've sitting in front of a can of corn and a can of peaches? ]

[ They pick up the can of peaches and sip at the juice.

We could've eaten when you were hungry. It's been a long long time since I got to eat with anybody.

( nooo ok, that happens to me sometimes. me when i eat these little vegetable medleys in the morning, and i don't want it anymore after two bites... but i eat them almost every morning. )

( has it been awhile? possibly, and komaeda can understand the sentiment, so rather than offering the corn to npc-kun, he keeps it close by to him instead. he peels back the metal, looking at the floating kernels of corn before he drags his finger around the rim, not enough to break the skin, but to get some of the residue. he lifts his finger, licking it slightly to see how sweet the food is, but it's manageable. )

We can eat now... I skipped out on breakfast this morning, don't tell anyone.

( he doesn't see the need to eat sometimes, but komaeda can't eat like a savage... ) Do you have a spoon I can use, or should I leave and get one?

( for another thirty minutes. )

I won't tell.

[ It's sweet yellow corn but npc-kun's brought a salt shaker and shakes it over the corn when Komaeda's finger is out of the way, sticks their own finger inside and gives it a stir, it's okay, they washed their hands. ]

It'd be better with some sesame oil on top... But we can go ahead and pour it into our mouths. No need for a spoon.

[commences]

( he's actually surprised that npc-kun knows his preferred tastes, it's not a surprise if anyone watches what he buys at vending machines, and how he eats. he allows the other to sprinkle in the salt, waiting for the screw to come off, and all of it pouring in...

it doesn't happen, and instead he watches npc-kun stir. )

Oh... you're right, I should have checked. ( ... ) We can have that when we eat tomorrow, I wonder what other cans Ishigami-kun has to offer...

( he'll bring it to his mouth, not taking a sip yet, but looking towards npc-kun... )

Are you into spicy food?

[ when Komaeda's preferred taste is just the normal way of eating things... This sort of stuff isn't meant to be eaten straight out of the can anyways, they think. Even the peaches are going to be too sweet and one note by themselves, as opposed to them being grilled and served over meat.

It's okay when it's a contributing flavor and not just heat. Like... peach curry with chicken. What about you?

[commences]

It's fine, I'm not against it.

( it's flavor, there are some he likes more than others, and as long as it's nothing sweet... he'll be fine. the corn is pushing it, but the salt mixed in helps to minimize the amount of sweetness in his meal. it's bearable, he's able to drink a bit of it, and a few of the kernels float into his mouth, land on his tongue, and he bites down to break it apart. his index finger scoops a little more in, cheeks moving up and down as he looks towards npc-kun. )

I wondered if you had any odd tastes. ( like ginger cake, or something disgustingly sweet, you know those little things that separate komaeda's dying palate with theirs. )

I could make you something... ( please god, reject him npc-kun. ) So it's good to know...

( slow and thoughtful, like he's not ready to be told just yet... but he's preparing himself. )

[ Is there anybody who thinks their own tastes are odd? They have to think about it, but all that comes to mind is comfort food, things they don't eat very often but they miss. ...They feel a little homesick now, actually. ]

Nothing odd, no. I'd try anything.

[ There's no way they can reject him, please, it's like turning away and gift and npc-kun isn't about that ]

( please, npc-kun don't do this to yourself. well, actually, komaeda can probably whip something up that actually tastes good. as for npc-kun's brother... he remains in nothing edible hell, rip... )

Can you cook?

( he asks, curious, eating out cans is fine and dandy, and komaeda licks his lips from time to time as he swallows it down. the flavor doesn't last on his tongue, his palate is slowly dying anyway, but he still smiles as he indulges in a shared meal with the other. he's ate a few meals with other people, not a whole lot, but it still throws him off every time he has someone to talk to during it.

why is it hard making friends? )

You make me something, and I'll make you something. ( wondering if npc-kun likes dead bodies... he looks around the shop, staring at the suncatchers again. ) I'll buy a suncatcher off of you, too.

[ Immediately: ]

[ before the proposition actually catches up to them ]

( not yes, deal. don't think this is easy. )

I'm waiting.

( he blinks at them... and he looks towards the door of the shop wondering if they're going to leave.

COOK COOK COOK COOK. )

[ They look up towards the suncatchers, wondering which one Komaeda would like ]

Pay me first.

[commences]

( he never had one before, so he's thinking about the food first... cook for him! )

You said you'd cook first? Isn't that part of the deal... You're not going to rob a future customer, are you?

( sad voice... )

[adsum]

It's not robbing if you willingly give me money.

[ Then it's called extortion. Besides... Komaeda is eating right now, so he won't have the appetite for anything npc-kun makes anyways. Food reviews are much higher when the judge has an empty stomach. ]

[commences]

So you won't... cook for me...

( puppy dog expression, a very sad tone in his voice like he's been betrayed... he's not really upset, he's just doing this because he can. ever just act up just to do it to get your way, well... his type 4 is showing.

he even crouches down, setting his can on the floor with a frown... )

[adsum]

[ STOP THE PUPPY DOG EYES npc-kun won't give in, no sir, they're stronger than that ]

Nothing in this world is free.

[commences]

( these eyes are getting sadder... he looks at the ground now, lips pursed into a straight line. )

( they even left their post to look for him... )
