Rokkun is still there towards the end of club hours, though, pencil scratching at the canvas and filling in the lines, with the semi-unfocused gaze of somebody working on a piece they know exactly how it's supposed to look and how to get there, and so they're on autopilot while their mind is elsewhere.
It's this faraway look that he gets a lot. ]
no subject
subaru's almost mesmerized by the concentration it must take for that, the long lines and the preciseness of it, and so instead of interrupting outright he comes to pull up a seat a little behind rokuro to watch him.
now, he's not good at keeping quiet normally... so rokuro gets ten minutes more before subaru speaks up.]
You've got a lot of patience, huh?
no subject
...I guess so.
[ For certain things, anyways. Years and years of trying and failing to go home? He can bide his time. Komaeda's bullshit? He is this close from snapping all the time. ]
no subject
No guessing about it! You're really good, Rocchan, I can tell you've worked really hard to get this good~.
["you're so talented," some might say. but talent is such a heavy burden. also... nickname upgrade. rocchan > roku-chan after all, actually]
I definitely couldn't sit still enough to do this... I usually end up drawing spirals and stars and Daikichi, even if they've got nothing to do with our assignment.
no subject
Thanks... It's not an assignment, though. I'm just passing the time while I think. [ And he's not telling Subaru what's on his mind, so he moves right along ]
Did you need something?
no subject
I remembered you saying you were the artsy type and wanted to recruit you in making teru teru bozu for the dorms. They're gonna be my Caspers!
[his friendly little ghosts...]
no subject
A preschooler knows how to make teru teru bozus.
[ WHY RECRUIT HIM there is nothing about building design that goes into hanging ghosts ]
no subject
[he needs a lot of them.]
no subject
And you're going to make it worth my time, somehow? It hasn't even been raining lately, and it'd be better to let it rain.
no subject
It's not for rain! It's for Halloween! And I need a lot of 'em! What'd make it worth your while, Rocchan? An idol's body pays the bills, so say the word and I'm yours to command!
[please]
no subject
[ no, let him rephrase that ]
I don't need your help with anything, and I'm not hurting for merit points or anything like that either. [ Is Subaru filthy rich? Can he pay medical bills or college tuition? Then maybe he'll talk.
... ]
Give me your PDA for a week, and I'll help you out.
no subject
okay. he'll fish it out of his pocket and hand it over.]
Don't post anything weird with it, 'kay? But if you do, you gotta use comics sans and the color orange. It's my trademark. ☆
[this won't end badly at all.]
no subject
I won't be able to unlock it without you anyways, so you don't have to worry about that.
[ No questions asked, though, is appreciated. He takes a sheet of glassine paper to lay on top of his pencilwork and weighs down the edges so it doesn't blow away ]
Tissue paper or cloth?
no subject
[which is about as much a question to rokuro's motives as he'll get, because you've gotta trust people to get people's trust and subaru really does not mind or care]
Tissue paper! Oh, but cloth might be easier to draw on... Cloth.
[sturdy and easier to reuse.]
no subject
Cloth it is, though, never mind how they're going to recycle dozens of little cloth squares with ghost faces drawn on them. Rokkun has to push off his knees to stand, but he knows where to go, grabbing two fine tipped black markers on his way out the door to the sewing room where he'll make a beeline for a white sheet, smooth and tightly woven. Less bleeding, so the teru teru bozus don't look like they have second day mascara on. ]
no subject
subaru will follow after, eager as a dog, and find some cloth scissors to cut with.]
We've gotta put some scary faces on them too, since they're gonna be hanging with the rest of my decorations~. Did you see the ad on the board for the school store? That's just a small taste of my skill!
[his dogs are out of this world but his halloween decorations got dissed by natsume]
no subject
[ THE SPIDER WAS GOOD THOUGH that's a compliment ]
What else is going to be in the dorms?
no subject
Fake pumpkins, cobwebs made of cotton, maybe some of those colorful triangle banners... A student really decked the halls last year, back when I still remembered being alive, but I don't think I could manage that~. Mikki~ was something else. ☆
[good boy.... a good good boy...]
I sorta wanna have a skeleton too, but... I can't get one, so. Maybe I should've asked you to make that for me instead~.
no subject
Hah... yeah.
[ Yeah. No spare skeletons in his closet. Metaphorical or otherwise. ]
It's something you can make out of paper, anyways. Didn't you do that in middle school when learning about the skeletal system? We cut out shapes of the major bones to label and attach together with brass fasteners to make for moveable joints.
no subject
give me your skeleton, rokuro.]
Well, I didn't really get the chance to stick around at one school when I was younger... Mom and I were always moving around, so a lot of stuff like that's pretty much news to me.
[maybe he got through part of it, once. and then the time passed and he knows it all from books and the like, but there's so many experiences he doesn't have, that he's reminded of when people talk about them.]
It sounds fun though~! Do you think we could make, mmm, twenty of them? ☆
no subject
I'll show you how to do one, and you'll know how to make the rest. You know your bones, don't you? Because I'm going to make you label them.
[ Gonna give Subaru the full middle school experience he never had ]
no subject
subaru looks a little surprised, but beams immediately after!!!]
I do, I do! You're the best, Rocchan, I'll be back in a flash!
[why not do everything at once... he's gonna grab like thirty sheets of white paper from the art room and
okay he doesn't know where the brass clasps are but it's fine. the important part is the bones. he really will be back in a flash he's so excited to learn something new and he has to do the bozu too but it's fine both projects need to be cut so it's two birds one stone and]
no subject
Bring back an entire ream of paper! [ He calls out after Subaru, because there's no way 206 bones x 20 skeletons are going to fit on just 30 sheets.
What else are they going to need... string to tie their ghosts up, and he'll also grab clay for the heads because something weighty to keep them hanging instead of tangling would work best. ]
no subject
is it a roll. papers don't come in a roll. fabric comes in a roll. um. he'll get an unopened pack of paper, he guesses, if this isn't it then it's not like it's far!!! jesus fuck i just realized you said 206 bones rokuro's gonna find out subaru knows the major bones and none of the smaller ones because those get lost to time when you don't care--
anyway here's a ream of papers coming down on the table he just doesn't know it's a ream.]
Done! What's a ream!
no subject
This is a ream. 500 sheets of paper makes one ream. We'll probably need more for all the skeletons, but it should be enough for at least the first two.
[ With four sheets set aside for him to write down all the bone names and locations for Subaru to memorize. ]
