( there's a lot of things he could ask like about them, or about the past, all sorts of things that probably don't matter now, or secrets of the school that they haven't even explored yet — what mysteries have they not looked into that they should? what's the next step because their eyes are finally opened, or how does komaeda get to be next to him without feeling like he shouldn't be... there's so many things to ask, he wouldn't mind laying here, and just listening to whatever the other has to say.

[ Nothing comes to mind when asked to talk about himself, but he figures that much is natural— normally people don't do much thinking about themselves unless needed for an interview or something, and the accomplishments he has to his name tend to be on the dying and being dead side of things.

And when he was alive, it's not like he had much of it, too busy trying to keep his family from falling apart. ]

( he really is empty in the head, huh? aside from that, he listens to him and the buzzing, searching for answers in what's said. there's a lot he could pick at in rokkun's words, some that doesn't stand as strong if he had chose something else. he knows the other has a goal, however he frames it, but knowing that his sibling is here, does that same thought process apply? )

( if rokkun's hope was slaughtering every student, what's his gain? what sort of hope is born when it's only him, alone, and no one else — that light will extinguish as fast as his intent to kill. killing the masses is no different from komaeda's attempt to start a war, erase despair from the roots, and what was left over could grow a tree of hope — he remembers what monaca said to him, was he truly induced in despair, or was that always his way of thinking. if rokkun shared that sentiment, komaeda could see reason, but it's the "if" that doesn't lead up to what is given through the means that he doesn't care for his... "if". )

[ There's that "Arata-kun" that makes him frown again, the fact that Komaeda brushes his question off as a hypothetical— as something that has to be impossibly grand to mean anything— without knowing any of the hows and whys and what he means to accomplish by it. Him not knowing is exactly what Rokkun made happen, though, by stubbornly keeping his mouth shut.

( he's silent for a moment, lifting himself up at those words as he stares off into the distance, and it's without a doubt that he peeks over to where rokkun lays. )

( he wants to see the hope that rokkun is sure of wanting, but that doesn't mean there aren't alternate ways in getting him to speak — it's finding the reasons behind what makes that question one posed to him. he should already know how much hope means to komaeda, and that he'd do anything to see the strongest hope victorious, even if it means eating away the weakest of it. to see a strong hope go against another strong hope, that's mostly entertaining. )

What do you hope to accomplish by that means?

( this is about you, rokkun, and komaeda willing to listen to every part of him to embrace how he works. he didn't lie to him a long time ago when he said that rokkun's hope was something he wanted to see, he'd do what was needed for it to come to fruition. )

So he doesn't have to see his Aniki become a murderer.

[ It's not his hope that's forwarded by this action; he's just trying to protect his brother's, who believes him to be somebody who takes care of others, who works hard to meet their needs, indominable and infallible. Mass murder is kind of the opposite of all that.

It's still something he has to do, though. So he'll save face, and go through with the plan. ]

( because everything changes when you lose that shining spot in a loved one's eyes, and who knows how many times rokkun has been replaced for someone else. family isn't replaceable, if it was, npckun wouldn't have been so attached to the prospect of an older brother — they missed him, it was obvious, and even komaeda could see that. rokkun played the role of a brother, and a father, so there's so much weight on his shoulders of not wanting to disappoint them. )

[ There's a twist of his lips, because that much should be obvious. For as much responsibility as he had for his brother in the past, they're more than a decade apart now and in that time, he's sure he's been elevated to nothing more than a concept, a big brother to look up to, who can do no wrong, an unrealistic expectation he had no choice but to meet.

Sorry, Kogamo. Your big brother spend his afterlife dying every two months.

( the way i have to go backwards because i ain't expect kouji to open the love letter. anyway, you know, komaeda knows rokkun always says one thing and means another which always brings difficulty in parsing his words. he wouldn't necessarily call this killing, but he wouldn't necessarily call this saving their lives so they can have a chance to live. he wouldn't call it a lot of things, but when he says it like that — even better — it improves everything, but komaeda does kind of wish he really meant a little bloodshed as a treat. )
