Please let August be better than July I'm begging

✽ Due to 10+ classes raising their ranks last month, ALL characters have access to the courtyard via the door in the locker area and the windows facing the courtyard.
✽ Characters with 1-10 tallies are not able to get any further past the end of the courtyard before they fall unconscious; characters with 10-20 can get halfway to the pool building before the same happens to them; characters with 20+ tallies can reach the pool building but unfortunately, the door is on the other side. There are no windows on the walls, but from the clocktower, characters can see that it has a glass ceiling, though they are unable to see inside.
✽ Outside, there is no breeze, and it occasionally rains ash.
✽ Characters going up to the 4th floor will feel that the door is warm to the touch, and will occasionally open (see: missions)
✽ The student store opens, with the door propped open with a doorstopper. The npc running the store is currently not interested in conversation, but may be available for threading in the future and is available for threading in the toplevel below. Please see the updated bonus activity page for more information.
✽ Posted on the bulletin board and also handed to each club president before break is the notice that proof of club activity is due at the end of break. Please submit these proofs in the toplevel below.
✽ There is another ad on the bulletin board advertising an exchange student program for the month of October. Applications will be taken until the end of August, and there is a 300 merit point fee. Sister cities include Death City, Devildom, Ishigami Village, Lanling, LazyTown, and Maiami City.

( i'm sure add will do a great job, i've passed on the secret of lily's favorite food, i know he can do it... maybe if he adds a little feather to it. )

If you're not a student, and you've been doing this for a long time... why do you need it? It's not like you're going to leave.

[ no!!! They extend a leg and sets the bottom of their shoe against his thigh and makes a halfhearted attempt to kick Komaeda off the table ]

Wait wait wait, never mind that. We're playing a new game now: honest shopkeeper and super generous old man.

[commences]

( don't worry, komaeda totally understands this game, in which he's going to slide off the table. once his shoes hit the ground, he'll place the palms of his hand against the table while watching the shopkeeper. )

Nope, you already decided. You let our marriage go, so that will is gone... but I'll do better, I'll keep being that stingy old man.

( he taps the table lightly, but hey... come on, don't hold out on him, npc-kun. )

Besides, when you sell me that one totem, it won't matter anymore! All of that money will go down the drain.

[ Booooooo. They're going to put their shoe on his face now. ]

That's why I'm not selling it to you! I told you already: you're not allowed to die. Not yet.

[commences]

( if they do that, he probably has this stupid little grin with the flat of their shoe pressed up against his face... something like. anyway, can komaeda take off their shoe, he's taking it... it's his now. they probably don't even wear the same size, but that's what happens when people put things on his face. )

I've never had someone care about how long I live, you know... tons of people here want me dead, you don't have to be shy.

( yeah, they're spouses here. )

Do any of the other totems do anything life threatening? You know... Someone else might suffer even if I used one. I'm kind of excited at the thought.

[ Oh my god... can't believe Komaeda swipes their shoe. npc-kun sits up and makes a grab for it back, bc they're not about letting things go for free. If Komaeda had wanted to purchase this shoe, that would be a different conversation.

Incidentally, they're wearing these socks. ]

Totems are for personal use only! You can clobber somebody over the head with it after, I don't care, but I hold no liability for actions outside of its intended use!

( nope!! komaeda will be taking a step back, and if he has to... he'll hold it above his head to use his height against them. sighs, maybe being tall really comes in handy. that said, it's his. )

[ Huff!! Komaeda can't hold his arm above his head forever, not with npc-kun standing up on top of the counter and making another swipe at the shoe. ]

They're not childish!

[ but maybe they like ducks, shut up ]

Buy my totems, but I'm not going to sell them to you all at once. So you're just going to have to come here once a month for a totem until you've got them all, and make sure to shop lots in between those times too!

[commences]

( come here shopkeep-kun!! come heeere! he's waving it around, making sure to pull his arm back when the other is soooo close to grabbing it. ugh, seeing them struggle, just a little despair.

but yeah, if they're on the table... it is a little hard to keep it away from them, so komaeda will fail sooner or later. )

oh, once a month... how mean, that's just a loophole in preventing komaeda to get the death one. )

[ They are this close to jumping off the table and bodyslamming Komaeda to get their shoe back, but then he says that and they stumble and almost fall. ]

Wha- huh? No way. Thinking isn't good enough. I don't do transactions for "maybes."

[commences]

( a sign of weakness... A SIGN! )

Ahaha, is that so? Do you gamble... you could get pretty lucky!

( or lucky is just komaeda, but he's tapping his cheek with his other hand to show where npc-kun can kiss. )

Maybe I'll give your shoe back, too.

[adsum]

[ stands on one leg so they can poke Komaeda's cheek with one ducky socked foot. ]

I said I don't do maybes. Give me my shoe back [ ... ] plus 10,000 yen, and I'll kiss you on the lips if that's how you want to play.

[commences]

( why...

he will reach out to grab npc-kun's foot, and pull it to make them fall on their ass... is komaeda victorious?

if not, he's taking their sock too. )

[ npc-kun can fall on their ass if in return they can reflexively kick up with their other foot and catch Komaeda in the gut. Sock stays on their feet, though. ]

No! I want money bad enough to stoop so low!

[ But this is how prostitutes happen so we're not going down this path. npc-kun gets off the table and goes around behind Komaeda to nudge the back of his knees to make them buckle, give back their shoe. ]

Ow...

( why are they like this!! okay, komaeda's knees bend and he falls to the ground, but because of the "shock", the shoe in his hand is sent flying? where? don't ask me, you tell me how lucky they are today.

of course, komaeda's laying on the floor with a smile... you know, abuse brings out the good in him. so he's actually excited, kicking his legs up like he's some teen watching a drama movie on a friend's bed. stomach hurts? check.

but hope? powerful. )

[ The shoe goes flying and lands tangled in one of the suncatchers hanging from the ceiling on display, lucky that it didn't break but unlucky in that npc-kun stares up at where it's hanging like how are they supposed to reach it from here? ]

That's okay.

[ It's an absent minded response, npc-kun preoccupied with dragging a chair out from behind the counter so they can use that as a step stool. ]

[commences]

Changed your mind?

( slowly, he gets up from the floor as a hand presses against where he was hit in the gut. a small cough in the elbow of his jacket, and he's attempting to get himself together.

he follows npc-kun's eyes seeing where their shoe is, and how they grab a chair for help. )

How nice. ( that blooming determination! he smiles softly as he follows after them, and he continues. ) You'll do anything for that goal, huh? ( inhale, exhale ) You're really just like him...

Why are you stealing people's shoes?

[ The goal... is this shoe, yeah. One that they can just barely reach with the tip of their middle finger even when standing on their toes on top of the chair, enough to nudge the sole and make the entire suncatcher jingle precariously.

Okay.

They jump, knocking the shoe off the suncatcher and the suncatcher off the hook and themselves off the chair, they can save one of three things and it's going to be the suncatcher. ]

I'm enjoying myself.

( that's the plan, especially when the other jumps to get their shoe, but bad things happen around komaeda so... he should have seen this coming. especially with how they seem to struggle with small tasks.

quickly, komaeda holds out his arms to catch the other from hitting the ground. not because he cares or anything, but he allows npc-kun to rest in his arms for a moment, and he stares down at the. taking in their appearance... like the color of their eyes, how soft their hair looks...

and then completely drops them after —

it would have hurt more had they did the straight drop, but komaeda shortened the distance. king move. )

[ It's honey brown eyes that stare up at him in surprise when they're caught in his arms, and then in utter betrayal when they drop once more to land on their tailbone on the ground, owww

But the suncatcher is unbroken, safely clutched to their chest, and I like to imagine the shoe had conked them on the head right after being caught but it should be fine too. ]

...Yeah...

[ They get up to place the suncatcher on the counter, touches a hand to their chest where their heart is pounding like mad, then goes to retrieve the shoe and tug it back on their feet before it gets stolen again.

... ]

Why did you catch me?

[ Like. Dropping them after is perfectly understandable, but the catching? ]

[commences]

( yeah, that's a good image, perfect actually! because komaeda will stare at the shoe that hit their head like he's thinking about taking it —

sadly! it's gone... :( aw, he didn't even get a chance. )

( he blinks, confused as he watches them. it's like komaeda's trying to understand why the other even asks him that question, and he glances off to look at something.

Anyway, I know someone that'll buy a few of your things... He's not here though, so I'll talk to him about if he talks to me.

( yes. as he says that, he's going to the counter to look at the suncatcher. )

[ "Anyway"

Foot re-shoed, npc-kun snatches the suncatcher back up before Komaeda gets any funny ideas. There's nowhere they can hang it high enough on their own that Komaeda can't just reach up and pluck it off the hook, so they settle for holding it against their chest instead, arms crossed protectively over it. ]

"Not here"? [ "if he talks to me"? ] Are you fighting?

[commences]

( how is he supposed to explain his luck? :/ so yeah, anyway!

now with npc-kun shoed foot, komaeda can walks over, reaching out for the suncatcher that the other holds onto. trust him, what's the worst he can do? he pulls at the top of it, as if silently requesting for them to let go. )

Oh. ( he hesitates, canting his head to the side. ) I didn't do anything wrong.

( just phrased like that because komaeda is komaeda. )

But, I have more buyers to tell you about!

So that's a yes. Sort of.

[ Like fighting but not... fighting... not physically, anyways, not in a way npc-kun can capitalize on. And here they thought they finally had the chance to sell some skull-smashing rocks. ]

Well, whatever. Who are the buyers? Who's the richest? How much do they have?
